  1. i cant move them anywhere unfortuneately there is no other good spot to put them where the sound decent.

also, my monitor occasionally flickers totally (sort of like degauss, but not quite as strong). this is unrelated to my speakers it's been hapening since i moved into my dorm. my monitor is almost brand new. im wondering if its power pollution or interference of some sort.

  2. hmm usually hard surface floors are better because they reflect all the bass instead of absorbing it (plush carpet is terrible).

i've never used my pro's at home, but when i had my acs48's, no matter where i put them in my room, the bass would be boomy and not very loud, even at high volume. however directly above my room (in the kitchen) it sounded even louder (not counting that most of the sound got absorbed in the ceiling). this sucked because i couldn't have loud bass without bothering the whole house. my room is a small cube shape with plush carpet, btw.

my dorm room is a whole nother story now. its slightly larger then my room (heh). we have a flat crappy carpet (my roomie's hehe), but it doesn't cover the whole floor. my sub is directly on the floor (no carpet). also, my desk is sort of enclosed. where my sub and puter are, it is enclosed on all sides except the front obviously. 2 of the walls are concrete cinder blocks and the third is a hard wood surface. here, the sub is punchy and powerful, but it dissappates rapidly. this is a good thing, because even when really loud it doesn't carry through to the neighboor's too badly.

  3. i have noticed two interesting (somewhat dissappointing) things about the subwoofer recently.

    1-the limiter:

I'm not sure how it works, but it seems to automatically cut the bass down when set too high, for high-volumes. the thing is, that it seems to lower the bass significantly lower then the max level it can handle. in order to get it to back to using full bass (instead of limited, ~70% bass) you have to stop listening to music for a couple minutes then start it again.

    2-max volume

my band teacher once said to us that we should never play our absolute max volume. if we give 100% of our effort, everyone will think "gee, thats loud. ok.". also, our tone will not be as good. if we never go above 90% of our ability (loudness) then when we hit the climax of the song, everyone will say "wow, that's pretty loud, and they could play even louder if they wanted to!". the same tip applies to the sub. if you just recently bought your promedias, don't ever crank them so high that the limiter has to kick in. you will be dissappointed permanantly.

  4. hmm i hear hissing on mine above 1:00 volume. i have my main volume at 50%, cd, wave, midi, at 100%, and everything else muted. even when i try changing the levels around it still hisses above 1:00. is there a problem with my sound card or promedias?

actually i just realized i still hear the hiss at 11:00 and above. i just raised my main volume to 75% so its regular listening level at 10:00. i also checked my connections...i dunno whats wrong. maybe dust?
