  1. Hi all, So my current HT setup is a pair of Klipsch RF-52s, an RC-52, and a RW-10d. It's time for a change. The purpose of this change was originally to consolidate space but - after much research - I've been bitten by the bug again and have decided to upgrade. I would like to upgrade to some speakers that I can be very happy with for at least a few years until I move into a bigger place - and ones that I can build on. Here are my options and cost to me: 1. WF-34s : $780 + shipping Keep the RC-52 Keep the RW-10d or sell and get XW-300d for $450 + shipping 2. WB-14 bookshelf speakers : $390 + shipping Keep the RC-52 Keep the RW-10d or sell and get XW-300d for $450 + shipping 3. I know this is a Klipsch forum, but please try to be as unbiased as possible B&W 683s : not sure on price, it'd take a chunk out of my wallet Sell the RC-52 Sell the RW-10d Based on these options, what would you recommend? I'm getting a deal (at least I think so) on the Klipsch speakers so the B&Ws would be quite a bit more expensive. For those who have heard both the Klipsch speakers and the B&W speakers, how do you compare? The WF-34s versus bookshelf WB-14s? Also, how much sound quality would I lose going to the WB-14 bookshelf speakers? I currently have a Yamaha RX-V463 receiver, what receiver would you match with your recommendation? I use the speakers 70/30 music/movies. Thanks in advance for any advice! - Marc
  2. I've attached an image of the room layout to this post to give a better idea of my problem. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  3. I currently have a pair of RF-52s, a RW-10D, and an RC-52 and would like to upgrade the sound and downgrade the space requirements. These speakers are for my bedroom (Which is also basically my home theater). In my bedroom I have a bed and desk etc so there is not much space. I would like to get smaller speakers but upgrade the sound. Do you have any recommendations? I was looking at the WF-34 speakers in the icon series as they are a bit smaller. How do these speakers compare to the RF-52s? I could also go bookshelf but I'm not sure if I would be losing sound quality or not? Lastly, if anyone has tried some of the single speaker 'surround' systems like the Polk Surroundbar 50 or Yamaha YSP series, what do you think of them? Thanks, Marc
  4. Hi I'm getting a pair of RF-52s and an RC-52 and need some help choosing speaker wire. I think I'm going to get the wire online to save some money and there are many different types. I need about 50 feet, indoors, and it doesn't have to be pre-cut - spools are fine. Thanks
  5. Thanks for the reply. I do not plan on upgrading from the 52s for a while. I plan to add a sub-10 and a pair of surrounds in a few months though. Would this receiver work well for that? By spending a couple more hundred dollars what features/improvements would I be buying keeping in mind I have no need for 7.1 or multi-zone setups? Thanks
  6. Hi I'm getting a pair of RF-52s and an RC-52 and the sales guy in Tweeter recommended the RX-V463 as a good receiver at my price point ($275 - $350). I only plan to upgrade to 5.1 (no 7.1) and only need the sound in one room. I will be hooking a computer up to the receiver to deliver the sound. Any thoughts on this receiver or other recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marc
  7. Hi I'm purchasing 2 RF-52's and an RC-52 and need help choosing a receiver. I will most likely eventually add a sub and two surrounds so it would be great if the receiver be powerful enough to power everything in the future. I will also be connecting a TV and a computer to these speakers. However, my budget is limited at about max $300ish so I know my options will be limited. Thanks for any suggestions. Marc
  8. Thanks for the advice Inventor. As I will have whatever setup I buy for years to come I think I'll invest in something more then the quintet system. Here's my final (hopefully) laundry list of questions: - I'll go listen to it in a store but there is a significant difference between a 52 system and the quintet III no? - Would the RF-52's be too much for a room no bigger then 15 x 15? Do you think that's the best choice for the front speakers keeping in mind a limited budget, what's the difference between the RF-52 and the F-2? - Will they sound good even though they'll be alone for at least a few months until I can get a sub and later center and surrounds? - What's the lowest price I can realistically expect to find for a pair of RF-52s and an amplifier? - Lastly, which amplifier would you recommend? Thanks
  9. I may be able to center it but I will still be very close the the rear speakers. Basically I can potentially center the sitting area but I cannot have it off the back wall so it would be very close to the rear speakers. The rear speakers will not actually be behind the couch because the couch will be flush against the back wall. Would this create a problem? Is building a theater a bit overkll? Should I opt for the quintet III or cinema 6? How much of a difference would is there between a theater with something like a rs-42 + center + front + sub versus the quintet III? Or shoud I try and find a 2.1 system with the virtual surround sound technology like the KEF kit1*0 series? Sorry for all of the questions and thanks for your help.
  10. Wow thanks so much for the quick reply. Ok so here is the full story: The 'home theater' in my house is basically going to be in my bedroom. I already have a 42 inch plasma and now I'm looking to get some sound in the room. The couch, however, is a bit off center and to the side against the wall directly across from the TV. I also have a computer hooked up closer to the front of the room that will use the speakers. Because of this I am worried that if I set up a full 5.1 system it may sound uneven from either the couch or the computer because each will not be in the center of the speaker field. Is there a way to get around this? Does it make a big difference if the sitting area is not in the center of all of the speakers? Would it sound good to just get two front speakers and a sub? Or would it be better to get the cinema 6 or quintet III system now? I can spend no more then $1000 right now. Thanks again
  11. Hi I'm new to the whole home theater scene so please bear with me. I'm looking to create a theater *eventually* but don't have the money to buy an entire system at once. I have a 15 x 15 room to fill and would like to buy the system in parts. Would it work OK to buy some surrounds like the RS-42's and maybe a sub and just use those for a few months before I can afford some additional components. What I mean is would I get a good sound experience with just the RS-42's and maybe a sub or is it not worth it? Basically I would like to fill the room and try to get the 'surround' effect with a minimal amount of speakers. Would a sub simply overwhelm the surrounds? I really am new to this stuff, sorry if these are stupid questions. Thanks very much for any advice, -Marc
