  1. ok i bought two of chicagos dvd-A the other day cuz I am a Chicago fab from way back! Anyway, these two multi ch surround discs have really fibe sound considering how old the masters are. I was astounded by the bass quality on chicago V dvd-a disc! nice tight deep bass notes that I never ever experienced when I was a Teenager back in 70s.....you will really love rediscovering chicago on dvd audo discs if you are a big fan! I would give both of these discs a B grade for good quality!
  2. yes it was the Feb/march issue...in the tracking surround section
  3. bought this scad the other day on a review i read in sound n vision magazine...i was astonished at how well they remixed this 2 cd set for sacd! this is certainly now one of my best sounding sacds or multichannel perio whether sacd or my dvd audio discs...beautiful sound..bass thats tight and deep which surprised me since this wa a 1973 recording. if you like elton john you got to own this sacd now...its very good to excellent sound quality!!
  4. now this was a sweet sounding surround dvd-A disc! great sound...tight bass...crisp highs good dynamics....I think everyone expects this type of recording and mix of Steely Dan music by now and also James Taylor too. I give this disc certainly A for excellent! There is also a dts mix and digital dolby surround mix on this disc too!
  5. I bought this dvd audio disc because I remembered how much fun it was to listen to my uncle play all his Sinatra lps when I was a kid back in the 60s...well this dvd audio disc being recorded in 1966 wont disappoint many Sinatra fans but I was a lil skeptical because of how old it was and I was right..the sound quality could have been better. I realize that the recording qualiy was limited back then. But I guess i expected a lil bit more and can only give this disc a C rating in my book...the songs sound a lil bit compressed and lacking great detail in treble...bass is not too bad but mainly supplied by the eep plucking of the bass by the Count Basie Orchestra. sound is a lil edgy too and sharp on songs...the surround mix isnt too bad for its age...I suppose its a must for big Sinatra fans but I am looking for any other type of sacd or dvd-A disc that has big band or swing type music with excellent quality..do any exist yet?
  6. I love chicago and this dvd audio disc was really well remixed with care.considering this originally came out in 1972, they did a very solid job remixing and doing surround with it. really worth buying if you loved the old chicago tunes like I do....enjoy!
  7. all I can say is wow....I bought this dvd audio disc which is packaged like a dvd video disc....it has two sides...one side is for playing the dvd audio surround tracks....the other for playing the dvd video tracks in dts surround or dolby digital....what a disc!! I tried all of them and they all sound great but the dvd audio is quite a bit better and will completely blow you away...the powerful drums and instruments used is incredible...anyone who knows about BLUE MAN GROUP knows what I am talking about...this was my first experience with anything from that artist...it will give your surround system a complete workout and will work your subwoofer plenty and shake your walls if you turn it up to about 100 decibels plus believe me!!
  8. ok I bought one today. Seems to be real nice and bass management seems to work nice on the analog outputs for sacd and dvd audio discs.....I really dont think it sounds any better as far as playing sacd as my sony ns-500 unit but it sue sounds great with dvd audio discs....no I am not limited to the great multi ch surround music discs that are out there. Does anyone who hs this denon unit know if when playing a dvd video movie when it is time for the machine to change layers if I should expect a delay of a second or so like my sony did or will this denon make that change almost completely unnoticed by me?? ty all for comments
  9. I was wondering i anyone on this site has bought the denon 2200 universal dvd/dvd audio/sacd player at all and if they could tell me if they love it. I was wondering specifically about the bass management on this unit if it works on sacd and dvd audio analog outputs to the receiver? If anyone can tell me great..also I have a yamaha surround receiver and I was wondering when you have a universal player like the denon wit bass management capabilities supposedly for all formats, which do you use, the receivers bass management or the players? does one override the other. i realize that my yamaha rec does not have bass management for sacd or dvd audio on the analog 6 ch inputs from what i gather...I hope one of you audophile experts ca help me... thank you
  10. outstanding quality...even some deep bass action from sub on this mix....super clean sound ...tight crisp......deep bass when material calls for it........I read the review in sound& vision magazine and took their word for it....if you know of any other recently bought sacds or dts discs..lemme know!!
  11. i own both analog and digital radioshack meters...they both work great but digital is more accurate and faster.....also can do a lil more with it and its easy to read too..i did comparisons side by side digital wins slightly...both very useful!
  12. hello all. I have a similar problem for which i just got done writing to yamaha for some help. Now maybe the new receivers wil have bass management for all the way around and not just for the digital outputs or inputs only. I have a yamaha rxv1300 rec bought within the past year...wonderful recvr but appears to have no bass management for the analog inputs of which alal sacd and dvd audio layers use up to this point I guess. I usually get weak subwoofer action when playing my sacds except for a couple which seem to get some good bass going from the sub. what I dont understand is this...my dvd/sacd player also has bass management but apparently also not for analog outputs as well......I have adjusted my bass management in my sacd/dvd player as well as in my receiver from yamaha but does it matter? if I setup the bass management in my recvr will it overide whatever bass management i selected on my sony dvd/sacd player? I gotta tell ya I am beggining to think the best thing to do is just buy large speakers from klipsch or every channel and say to hell with it..lol forget about bass management and just go with same size for the front and rear speakers and just have two really good center ch speakers for front center and rear center ch.......the way i run my setup now is i have selected in my yamaha recvr to send deep bass out of my big front klipsch speakers and to my sub as well so that all 3 of them are doing bass but i set the sub so it only does bass of 50hz and below for deep only...I dont know...this whole thing about bass management for sacds and dvd audio discs is confusing to me..lol
  13. well I have to say this is one great sounding live music concert dvd! I do not know when it was recorded but it must have been very recent. It is done in dts surround and the sound is very powerful. The bass drum hits you in the chest with a deep thud to it the way gabriel does it in concert because i have been to his live concerts in recent years. If you love drums and congo type rhythms, you will love this as gabriel captures the flavor of african type beats in much of his music. buy this dvd if you want to wow your guests!!
  14. ok just bought this ET movie that was just released recently onto dvd....great remix of the audio as far as i am concerned...you can choose from dolby digital 5.1 or dts option here.....picture and sound excellent...you will love it!!!
  15. this is my second james taylor sacd that I own and i believe that is all he has out so far. this was a great album when it was recorded back in 1977 I believe! it has both stereo and multi channel 5.1 surround but it is not a hybrid disc so it can only play on sacd player. I was amazed again just as I was when I bought the TOTO sacd of how great a job they can do with remastering and mixing these fav old classic albums! bass is solid but never sloppy on james taylor dvds or sacds.....just outstanding and the surround id never overly done therefore not taking away the lifelike quality of the recording... background noise is very minimal also...what can I say, another jewel of an sacd if you like JT then buy this one because its crisp and clear and powerful and his voice as always is front and center!! I will rate this a B+ for very very good sound!! enjoy ; )
