  1. I should have never looked at this thread. Now, I can't get my 3000DSP to connect to the laptop. The laptop recognizes the amp but it shows that there's no drivers (Code 28) when I look at it in Device Manager. I've reinstalled the software, etc., to no avail. Anyone else have this issue?
  2. So, I'm looking to add another Umax 15 to the low end. After some checking, I just wanted to be clear that I'm not missing something with the wiring. Currently, I'm running the (1) Umax in series at 4 ohm (DVC 2 ohm) and the amp in bridged mode. So there's no way to get (2) DVC 2 ohm subs to be able to run at 4 ohm bridged, it's either 2 ohm (series/parallel), or 1 ohm (parallel), correct? The manual for the 3000 does not show it can handle a 2 ohm load bridged, it can in stereo, but again, I can't get (1) DVC 2 ohm sub to 2 ohms, just 4 ohm (series) or 1 ohm (parallel), right? So, basically my only option with this amp and (2) DVC 2 ohm subs is to run them at 4 ohm on 2 channels. If so, looks like I'll be looking into a different amp next. Let me know if I'm missing something. Thanks.
  3. Yeah, I know a similar pain. Changed some hinges for the lid on a Dell laptop I had last year. Had to take the thing down to it's shell. Wasn't terrible, but the replacement hinges broke a month later. New laptop it was.
  4. Welcome to the forums. I would go with a stand that puts them at ear height, or just above. There are many designs that will work just fine. I know some people will use ones that you can fill with sand. It helps to keep them from resonating and adds weight to the stand such that they are less likely to be knocked over.
  5. I can appreciate vasabandu's quest. I do it all the time. Sitting in a plane, driving somewhere, thinking of setups that I'd like to have, Klipsch Heritage, newer models, more subs, nicer amps, pre's, etc. Where can I find them, can I find that sweetheart of a deal, should I spend the dough? If you want to criticize what he's posting, well, change the channel. It's not like it's required reading. The funny thing is to me is that guys will criticize someone yet they continue to read the posts, and subsequently comment about them. If it floats your boat, more power to you. Hope you feel a little bigger about it. BTW, I want a pair of these. Dare I ask someone's opinion?
  6. I take it these will be for surround duty? I have RB-81's, the younger brother of the 5's in the small HT setup in the basement that are LF and RF. They work well for me. The sub I have in there is good, but lacks some of the upper bass punch these bookshelves need in my opinion. I'm using an SVS 20-39 PCi cylinder sub in there. Great for the deep low end, but lacking on the upper. Your subs, to me, are a good match for the 5's. Should sound nice having the 4 positions matched. What are you using for a center?
  7. No thanks. I like my guts on the inside.
  8. I've always been a Marantz fan. Klipsch and Marantz go well together, in my opinion. Nice looking setup. If it were me with that nice piece, I would remove the sticker on the lower right corner, it's an advertising piece. The in-wall construction is a bonus. Otherwise, looks like you're good to go. Enjoy!
  9. Just remember wire ties are your friend. Amass the mess collectively and all will be well. Just be discerning, power in one group, input in another, output in it's own. Ending up on the floor is true dedication to the art. Or, too much sauce while doing so. I've never done that, ever. Well, maybe once or twice, or three times, or........
  10. Glad it worked. I think you sent your jinx to me. Now mine won't connect, was fine yesterday. I'll figure it out, too funny.
  11. I'm no expert at it, but I have a 3000DSP and use the software. What's the issue again? USB not recognizing device? I have that happen occasionally. Usually, I just restart the computer and try again. Has worked for me. I've got to take off here for a bit, but I'd be happy to help you get it up and running. Again, I'm no expert as other users can bring more details to crossover types, etc. But, I can tell you what works for me and can get you going, hopefully.
  12. @TFR1 Those cabs look awesome. I'd be lucky to build something that looked half as good as those do. Have fun with the finish work. Can't wait to see them completed.
  13. Had the same issue, the hum going through the sub. After checking all connections, one by one, to see which was causing it, I found that it was the cable wire. Unplugged it, no hum, plug it in, hum. Bought one of these to run between the wall plate and the box. Works great, no problem since. Just under $30 with shipping from Amazon.
  14. I agree with Diz. Was just doing that last night. I turned it down to -50, listened for a bit, felt like it was still to loud for late evening, finally ended up at -60 after a couple of other downward bumps. Diz hit the nail on the head with efficiency and I'm not running Heritage, just some old 5.5's. I don't think there's anything wrong with your setup.
  15. Rear caliper issue is not uncommon on the Chevy's of that vintage, or other brands as well. Corrosion and rust are big problems out back. Many times on the GM's it was the right rear that was the issue. Saw this in a lot of shops. The problem is airflow over the rear brakes. Was just in a class and this was briefly discussed. That's why some newer cars are going back to drum rear. I saw a '16 Tercel not too long ago with drums. Could just be a bad caliper though. I like OEM myself but $1,000 difference is pretty substantial.
  16. You got that right. Oldest is in driver's ed right now and every time her and Mom go driving she comes back mad. Does not like criticism of her skills. I'm sure in her mind she's ready to drive across the country, hardly. Good kid, as you said though, a teenager.
  17. I have a couple of those female type children as well. 15 and 13, I'm right in the thick of it. When the wife and those 2 get going sometimes I hide in the bedroom. Thankfully, the gear that I listen to the most is there. It's like a safe haven.
  18. I take it the track saw works well? I've been looking at getting one myself. Seems to be the next best thing to a proper table saw setup. What brand do you have? I was looking at this one. http://www.grizzly.com/products/Track-Saw/T10687 Figured it would work for a few sub projects. Great looking build though. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

So, I'm going to be the guy that steps in the middle of an argument and gets knocked out. Collusion, end of times, is all rhetoric considering that we've been on this path since inception. Humans have parasitical tendencies and as such we will be wiped out accordingly, kind of like a bad rash. Doesn't matter what you believe in, faith, science, every good thing comes to an end, no stopping it. God's hand, Yellowstone lava pool, Mom Nature, will right the ship, unfortunately. Point being, enjoy it while it's here. Man, now I'm going to get flagged, seriously, I love Klipsch and talking audio! Let's just agree to disagree. Nothing wrong with this thread at all, in fact, I love cruises. I've been on three of them with my company, all to the Bahamas, and no sickness, well, some self induced, or other unexpected atrocities. Would be pretty hard to get in a fight on one of these. You'd have to be working pretty hard to do so. One suggestion I have though, don't tip the folks that are bringing you drinks, Margaritas especially, suddenly they start coming with an extra shot of some clear Tequila on the side. Will put you down in a hurry. Don't know how I know that. Here's a generic pic that I took from a roadside bar while in Nassau riding gas powered scooters all over the island. Too much fun. All hail Klipsch!
  20. Uhhhhh, damn. You could have offered $20 just to drench them in some gas, light a match, and put them out of their misery. I would have sent you the $20 just to do it. Yikes.
  21. They look like they have some buoyancy to them, should be able cruise down the river with a friend rockin' tunes. If they do spring a leak just hit 'em with some FlexSeal and all will be good. Makes you wonder what goes through people's mind sometimes, or more to the realization that it went through someone's mind and actually came off the page...
  22. I would wall mount the TV, I bought an articulating mount, comes out, tilts, pivots, works great for positioning the TV. Go with a narrower, but taller AV stand. Something with at least 4 to 5 shelves for your center and gear. Take some measurements to determine where to mount the wall bracket. You want the bottom of the TV to sit obviously slightly above the center. Mine's about 1 1/2 - 2" above. This would give you more room for (2) 115's and mains. Running the wiring in the wall to the TV isn't hard, unless you have horizontal braces between the studs. Can get a little more challenging with them. I had an electrician come in and run an outlet next to the wall mount behind the TV for power. You've got a good budget to do this, but one thing I wouldn't do is scrimp on the mains or the center. As others have said, I've heard a lot of good things about the RP-280F's. An RP-450C is a good match to those. They are a bit wide at 31" but I'm sure you could find a suitable AV rack to accommodate the width. Seems like you've gotten some good ideas on the rears. As for an AVR I would look at Accessories4Less, or find a couple of year old model that is new but is being sold at a discounted price. There's lot's of options as far as AVR's go. Just do some research and check out a few brands to see what you like at the local stereo store. I'm no expert, and know about being on a budget, so I'll gladly help you spend your money. Here's a pic of what I did in our little HT room. I had a really narrow space to work with. I have an SVS 20-39 PCi sub in the right front. The RB-81's are pretty good but I'd like to change them to a floorstander. The sides of them are right inside the edge of the wall and the door on the right. That's an RC-62 center in the pic, would definitely be better with some RF-82's. Overall, nothing special but it works pretty well. Hope this gives you some ideas.
  23. As am I. I still run an old school Orion 225 HCCA amp at 1 ohm to run my single 10 in the old Chevy truck. I have a 250SX as well, just sitting in wait to run my mid's and high's. These are the old 'military grade' boards. Good stuff.
