  1. That's some good music there! I'm a 2 channel-only guy myself but can't get the full sound top to bottom and the bass I would expect from the RF7 II's. They're sitting in my dining room waiting for me to try them out again. Hey Cody, what are you using to drive the RF-7 II's? Dennie
  2. 2 channel for music. I don't care if its CD, SACD, DVD-A, it's in 2 channel. I do have a 7.1 theater and it's for Movies. Dennie
  3. Happy Easter everyone... Dennie
  4. I own all but the first one and they are Top Notch samplers. Anything by Sheffield Labs is worth seeking out, IMHO. I'm sure you are happy with the quality. Dennie
  5. My most recent drink of Alcohol was March 26th, 1995. Life is much better now. Congratulations Sancho, Dennie
  6. Welcome Nikolaos, We are glad you are here. Yes, it is possible that the capacitors in your RB 35's are out of spec.. We typically don't see that happen in a approximately 10 year old speaker, but it is possible. Your description of "Muddy" seems to fit what happened with my 25 year old (at the time) La Scalas. I didn't realize it until I replaced the crossovers, but it was like a blanket was lifted off of my speakers and the bass came to life. The Muddiness in all frequencies went away. I think it would be relatively inexpensive to replace the caps. and then see what happens. Keep us posted and again, Welcome. Dennie
  7. no, havent measured it yet, but i plan to get a meter asap just out of curosity to see what levels it peaks at. i dont push them so loud it hurts your ears like some live concerts can do at 120+db. i'd guess 105-110 max maybe. Hey Klipschfancf4, If you think 20 year old caps don't make a difference..... You are wrong! If you like bass as you say you do..... REFRESH THE CAPS!!!!! Really, it is a cheap update and worth every penny, if not much, much more. I have 1979 La Scala's and was quite content that La Scala's don't have much bass, as everyone says. I decided to update/replace the crossovers with stock ones from Bob and Michael Crites for $300. WOW! The bass became solid vs mushy and the Highs and Mids cleaned up like never before. It was a big difference. Update your crossovers and I think you'll be much happier. Dennie
  8. I'm so glad you picked up on "Railroad Earth" Bruce. Great stuff indeed! Dennie
  9. Wasn't the question about bi-wiring? Dennie
  10. i agree zep4 sounds pretty bad. nobodys fault is pretty "good" at best, but the 3 songs off zep2 are pretty good up loud. i stand corrected on zepplin being a "quality" recording, but some sounds good up loud. i have the same ac/dc album i will have to try out too. as for formats, i should have clarified, i mainly play cd's but have a decent turntable & collection of 70's & 80's rock records. also have the SACD/DVD-A player i mentioned, i will have to look into some of the SACD stuff listed. so mainly looking for cd's i can get cheap at amazon or ebay. or just to pull from my collection if i have it. all but the zepplin i listed sounds very good. i just tried one of the suggestions i happen to have, paul simon graceland. one of my favs & owned it for 20 years. but i must say, never heard it like this before, this is THE best recording so far i have played throught these speakers! seriously impressive & a lot of the "harshness" i mentioned in another post is just gone. sounds very nice at all volumes & up loud you hear the bass player & kick drums like you are there. & the horn instruments played through a horn speaker sound great. if all recordings sounded like this i'd be very happy. There you go! Enjoy the ride, you'll find many more great sounding CD's as you go through your collection again. Keep us posted and let us know when you try some SACD's/DVD-A's. Congratulations on the Khorns and Audio Nirvana. This is a great hobby! Dennie
  11. I like those Zeppelin songs too. BUT! They are typically low-fi at best. Wait until you hear some real quality recordings and it will be hard to go back. The Heritage line is unforgiving, garbage in, garbage out. Give some of the suggestions a spin and then go back and crank Zeppelin through your K-horns and I think you'll think differently. In my experience, the Heritage line like High Fidelity recordings. Keep us posted and enjoy the ride, Dennie I have a 1980 pressing of AC/DC Back In Black. I am amazed at how good it sounds and I was not expecting it to be this good. The drums are recorded very well. Sounds great on a really resolving system (to my surprise). You are right, some vinyl sounds very good and it is often surprising to find quality ROCK vinyl, but it is out there. I still don't know what format the OP is using or asking about, but my Led Zeppelin CD's typically sound pretty bad. "Mothership" is remastered and sounds pretty good though, but "Zep 4" is known to be... "hard to listen too"! I just threw in "Presence" CD and it played "Nobody's Fault..." and it does sound pretty good, but not near "Audiophile" grade. The bass is a little flat/bloated and the cymbal's smear at louder volume, a victim of compression. But, it's not as bad as I had thought. I'm curious to hear his impressions of some better mastering and to know what format he's using. Dennie

  13. Vinyl? CD? SACD? R2R? If you are listening to CD's, try this one, it can be had for about $20 on Ebay. No special equipment needed to play the JVC Extended Resolution Compact Disc (XRCD) and I've found them to sound incredible. Dynamic's like you can't believe. The Joker -- XRCD The Steve Miller Band 1973/2008 Capitol/JVC Records And since you listed Pink Floyd, this one is worth every penny of the nearly $40 price tag, but a SACD player is a must to get the higher resolution sound. Wish You Were Here -- SACD Pink Floyd 1975/2011 Pink Floyd/EMI Records Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here on Hybrid 5.1 SACD Pink Floyd's 1975 Classic Finally Arrives on Stellar-Sounding SACD: Stereo and Surround Options are the Best of All Worlds Mixed for 5.1 from Original Multi-Track Master Tapes by Pink Floyd Engineer James Guthrie An Essential Counterpart to Dark Side of the Moon–The Biggest-Selling SACD in History Shine on You Crazy Diamond: Reflective Landmark Ranked #209 on Rolling Stone List of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time You Will Never Hear a More Immersive, Realistic Digital Version Congratulations on the "new to you" K-horns.... 14. Good Stuff Matt! I'm glad you are enjoying them. Once I got my La Scalas, I've never thought about buying speakers again! Dennie
  15. This! Sure, I can listen to "Wish You Were Here" and think about my deceased Mother or one of my long gone great dogs and it will bring me to tears every time. But to listen to a piece of music with no preconceptions or expectations and being brought to tears is much different. I think? One evening (I'll never forget) with the lights out, my recliner reclined and by brain turned off, I just listened to this.... ..and about half way through the disc, I had tears streaming down my face. It moved me and it was just a "WOW" moment. I've never had the "same" experience and haven't listened to "Tone Poems" since. I will someday, but I'm still holding on to that one night. Nirvana! On a side note, on a different forum, the question was asked and I'm paraphrasing, "Whats the worst music you've ever heard" and someone mentioned "Tone Poems". Different strokes for different folks, I guess. Great topic Dave and I don't think it has anything to do with being "Manly", just humans and of course Art. I love this hobby! Dennie
  16. Hey Matt, It's been a week my friend, what are your thoughts? Dennie
  17. Dennie is that the guy you were telling me was lurking forever, probably so, Welcome Chuck. Yes it is! I saw him lurking in the HT section a few months ago. I actually thought he was going to steal something. I didn't think he'd join. But we're glad he did! Dennie
  18. Welcome Chuck, we've been waiting for you to get here. (we saw you lurking! ) We're glad you finally made it! Dennie
  19. Thanks Michael, I'll be curious to hear how you like your B-2's, when you get them back. Dennie
  20. Thanks for the review Michael. What would you say was the biggest difference between the new ALK's and your old crossovers, listening wise? Dennie
  21. Always good to see you Matt, those look fantastic. Isn't horn Bass amazing! Have the crossovers been updated? Keep us posted and Congratulations... Dennie
  22. Absolutely not. Dave What a relief. But it does beg the question so we all know. Who is the guy that Dennie referred to since it isn't Justin? I also believe it is Welbourn, though there are a few others that fall into this categoryas well. Dave Yes! Ron Welborne is the guy. Thanks Bruce and Dave. And a quick Google search confirms the "troubles"! ----> CLICK HERE Damn, getting old is tough. They say the second thing to go is the memory and I can't remember what the first thing was! Dennie
  23. Absolutely not. Dave What a relief. But it does beg the question so we all know. Who is the guy that Dennie referred to since it isn't Justin? That is great to hear. I can't remember the name of the guy, but I'm pretty sure it was on this forum (maybe not) that I heard complaints about a amp builder that would always have problems. Not necessarily with the amps, more with finishing them and staying in contact with customers. I'm glad it's not Justin. It looks like he does great work! Dennie
  24. Is this reply to me? Thanks, Dennie We'll it was, I was hoping Dave would jump in here to talk about Justin. He know him very well. Thanks! Dennie
