  1. Please don't confuse MUSIC, played by talented performers using actual instruments, and "entertainment" and or "dance reviews" using overdubbed vocals. MTV hasn't mattered for years. "No hit records, no MTV videos, you'll never make it in this business." "NOT!!!!!!!!" Jimmy Buffett.
  2. I had surgery for a ruptured disc in 1989 resulting from a hit and run car accident and was told at the time I was too young for fusion as scar tissue would fill in. There was a mention of a decrease in flexibility but I am sure things have improved over the last 2 decades. I would second Duke's recommendation regarding finding the right surgeon. Only one name came up when I was looking, MD Patrick O'Leary, who at the time was the head of spinal surgery at Lenox Hill as well as the the Hospital for Special Surgery here in NYC. When I met with him I was told that one of his associates could perform the surgery within a month, as this was considered a routine operation, but to wait for him would be six months. I always remembered the line from MASH: "it always pays to wait for the head barber." So I opted to wait. One of his aides told me he really didn't do this kind of operation anymore, "He's trying to make paralyzed people walk again." I considered myself fortunate and I really wanted the best available guy considering it was MY spine we were talking about. Needless to say the operation was a success and I would be better off if I hadn't put on 30 lbs in the time since. A few years after my operation I was watching the news conference regarding the injured NY Jets defensive lineman Dennis Byrd and who was up at the podium but MD Patrick O'Leary! You could say I was in good hands. The moral of the story? Like in building a stereo put your money in the speakers, and get the best surgeon you can! Good luck and best wishes for a quick recovery. Oh, there will be no moving of Klipsch Heritage speakers during your recovery!
  3. Sorry, didn't have my sarcastic emoticon handy! I'll take your advice and avoid any political commentary.
  4. We keep being told how bad things are, how is Obama going to get elected if you keep publishing facts like these??? According to the IRS, 86% of all federal income taxes were paid by the top 25% of wage earners, the top 50% of wage earners pay 97% of federal income taxes. Data from the most recent Tax year info released by the IRS.
  5. Getz and Gilberto is always in the rotation to be played during dinner. One of the most romantic jazz albums of all time. Tough to sing along in Portuguese though! I saw Stan Getz open for Benny Goodman at Carnegie Hall during the Newport jazz festival, now THAT's a double bill.
  6. I shudder to think of the furnishings these went with!
  7. JB, sounds like a great show. I've always been a fan of the USA/RED period. I saw Fripp play with the League of Gentlemen in a small club, quite the contrast. Three punk rockers with one of the great technical guitar players sitting stock still on a barstool, wailing away.
  8. Greg fantastic work, if I am ever in a position to have some restoration work done, I'm sending my money to you. Great link as well.
  9. "where I saw Joe Venuti, the famous jazz violinist, many years ago" Not many people know who Joe is these days. That's a great show to have seen. I love "Joe in Chicago" and "S Wonderful", fun jazz records. Also Joe and Zoot with my favorite sax player Zoot Sims. Sorry about the derailment, now back to your regular programming. Nice score on the Vinyl, as well. Just dusted off my old Dual turntable yesterday, I think I'll burn some of my albums to cd. At least the ones that haven't been released on cd as of yet.
  10. Congratulations! I have been lusting after a pair of LSII's in my heart. They might be the best looking speakers Klipsch has made. Did you buy them direct or through a dealer? I have both Chorus II's and Heresy II's and am quite happy with both, but audio jealousy is a green eyed devil. Enjoy.
  11. Like having a long lost puppy find it's way home! Congrats.
  12. Yeah SRV!!! I guess "Pride and Joy" is a better idea than "Look at Little Sister" LOL. My wife and I were lucky enough to hire a band for our wedding and when we went to interview them, the leader of the band was also the guitarist. i asked him who his favorite guitar player was and he said "Wes Montgomery", to which I said "You're hired." Best of luck with the wedding and your future together.
  13. As the proud owner of a pair of Chorus II's, I 'll follow this as well. Weren't the Cornwalls a more expensive speaker than the Chorus? I would think that would install them as the betting favorite.
  14. There's just no talking to some people! I don't bother to criticize other speaker companys when I am asked for recommendations on equipment, I just play my Klipsch for them and that pretty much settles the matter. I had a buddy who was looking to upgrade his speakers and considering Bose, I asked him if he had ever heard Klipsch speakers and said no. I invited him over and asked him his favorite music and he said "anything by Steely Dan" So I threw on "Babylon Sisters" figuring that it had a wide range of vocals, horns and was well recorded. His comment, "It's like I never heard the song before!" Needless to say he bought Klipsch speakers.
  15. Try to remember to appeal to all of the people who will be there, i.e. the parents of the bride and groom and everyone that they invited. People of all ages like to get out on the dance floor. It might not be pretty, but it happens. Motown works for most folks to dance to, just don't let the DJ play one of those dreadful "medley's" you know 30 seconds of Smokey followed by 30 seconds of the Four Tops. I mean what the hell the songs are only 2:30 anyway! PS: Plenty of good booze also helps get the folks out on the dance floor. The best advice I got for my wedding was "Know your audience."
  16. Tough to argue with most anyone on this list, the Stones haven't released a "good" album since Goat's head Soup and a "Great" one since Exiles. I didn't think the last Ray Davies cd was that bad and would certainly buy a ticket to see the Kinks if he and Dave Davies could ever work out their sibling rivalry. One addition to the list should be Sting, he's been coasting for years, dull as dishwater. Oh, and if you are a fan of Joni Mitchell/Carole King check out this cd:http://www.bluetapestry.co.uk/ One of the best cds I have heard in years, with a stellar cast of musicians.
  17. I can only speak to the Rotel aspect but I own the Rotel RA-1070 Integrated Amp and am very happy with it. Great functionality and it makes my Heresy II's sing. Check out this review, Not sure how to post the link: http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/rotel1070_e.html Good luck with the new speakers.
  18. I enjoyed it, having just gotten it from Netflix. Tom Hanks is this generation's Jimmy Stewart. God, did I want a scotch watching that flick!
  19. Maybe not the greatest haul in the world but it made my day: A buddy was moving overseas and looking ot dump his stereo, so for $2,000 I purchased the following. SAE A-501 250w amp, P-101 Pre-amp, E-101 Parametric EQ, T-101 Tuner, a DBX Range Expander, DBX Router, and a Nakamichi Dragon. All in original boxes with owner's manuals and SAE "White Papers." Oh, did I mention it came with a pair of unfinished Klipsch Heresy speakers? I gave the Heresy's to my buddy as a wedding present, not sure the wife understood but he is still using them since 1991. I would have kept them but I was living in a studio apartment with a pair of Klipsch Chorus II's. The Dragon still works perfectly and one day I'll get around to getting the amp fixed up and running.
  20. Looks like the Fed just opened the "Discount Window" for them. Should stop the blood flow for awhile.
  21. Anyone who thinks that there are 141 better rock guitar players than Richard Thompson knows nothing about guitarists and obviously doesn't own a pair of Klipsch speakers!!!
  22. Alright, you shamed me into it! Just recently found the forums. Am a long time Klipsch fan, having bought my Chorus II's back around 1990, for a studio apartment no less. They finally have some room to breath since the wife and I bought a weekend house in 1999. I purchased a pair of Heresy II's to fill in, plenty of sound for a typical Manhattan one bedroom where you sit less than 6 feet away from them. Running the Heresy's off of a Rotel integrated amp with a Sony ES-9 cd player among other goodies like my Nakamichi Dragon. The Chorus II's are paired with another Sony ES cd player and an Onkyo receiver which serves its purpose. I'll upgrade that in time. The Chorus sound great in a room with 13 foot ceilings. I'll post the rest of my equipment holdings after I double check the model numbers for you audio geeks, I've got some Klipsch bookshelf and a center channel speaker that I use as a quasi-AV system out at the house. (More of a music than video fan.) BTW: pretty jealous of some of the setups and speakers you guys have got, and my wife thinks I'M crazy!
