Wall of Voodoo in the living room.....
captmobley replied to Groomlakearea51's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
I'm certainly glad that you haven't been idle on your sabbatical-glad to see your byline again. Hoping for a demo........ -
So, Speak very slowly for us technologically challegened-I have a new Macbook Pro-that has a firewire port If I understand, and please correctly me if I'm wrong- all I need is the Behringer fca202-a fire wire cable to it-then RCA cables out to my HT amp(or 2 channel amp) and it will play from my ITUNES?

Thinking seriously about a Sophia Music Baby amp for a foray into tubes. Any comments. I have stifled the impulse to run out and buy anything I think is a good deal. Just flat running out of room-and I've got 3 systems going! I guess I'm finally becoming a little more disciplined. Darn tough when you're a Klipschaholic!

Just leave enough room for a path to your listening chair!!!

Being that the article is a tribute to Duane Allman: it definitely deserves a nod to Derek Trucks who is the traveling lead guitar player for the Allman Brothers. Drummer Butch Trucks nephew, I first saw him play with the ABB when he was 11 years old and thought then he was Duane reincarnated and still do even more today. Give a listen guys, and see what you think.

At Klipschorn users: How big is your listening room?
captmobley replied to MojoX's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Using Khorns in a 16 by 26 room for 14 years-great, full sound. Cannot imagine repacing them-If I did-with what?-for my ears, there is nothing better- go for it-you won't regret it-to #$%& with the neighbors. they would complain just as much if you bought (Heaven forbid!} Bose! -

I have an opportunity to get a pair of Pioneer Elite MX-10 amps for my home theatre system. I want to amp my front and center speakers, and though my Pioneer Elite VSX92-tx recevier claims to put out 130 watts per channel into 8 ohms, I can definitely tell the difference when I go from stereo to surround. Does anyone have any experience with these amps-are they worth $550 per pair(100 watts per channel) or is my hard earned $ better spent elsewhere? There are 3 Marantz MA-500 monoblocks local for $150 each, but I have no experience with those. Thanx for the input.

I am extremely pleased with my SVS-so has everyone who has experienced it-just cannot imagine anything coming close for less than double the $$$

What's your favorite Radio Station
captmobley replied to jacksonbart's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
IMHO the best radio station on the planet is here in Tampa Bay-WMNF 88.5-also on the web-totally listener supported, commercial free, politically conscious, fearless in programming, community oriented-the best blues show weekdays from 2 to 4 they promote concerts, lectures, NPR affiliated all in all, a dadgum fine bunch of people-almost everyone associated with the station are volunteers -
Make that REMOVES-not enough caffiene yet

OK fess up who bought speakers that were too big for the house?
captmobley replied to russ69's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Absolutely not! Although, I do believe I purchased a house that is too damn small for my speakers!!!! -
Does anyone have any experience with any of the calibration DVD's? Are they worth the effort?

actually, I just painted my LaScalas-not to blend in-but to refinish- some previous #$@%$@@# had decided to touch scratches and dings up with a brush and cheap gloss black paint!!!!!!! I bought commercial black satin laquer, a HVLP sprayer, set up a spray booth in my garage, and went to town Not perfect, but perfectly acceptable what's the old saying? art shouldn't match your sofa? neither should your speakers nuff said

a good center channel and receiver for a heritage set-up
captmobley replied to joessportster's topic in Home Theater
I run a pair of Heresy II's as center-wired in series-one on either side of my equiptment and TV console-sounds great-the reciever thinks it's one 16 ohm speaker and handles it with no problem and it matches the Khorns perfectly. I actually have an Academy in the garage I just bought but haven t tried it out yet-I'm still refinishing it. -
I wonder how a piece of that memory foam would work-if you could keep the turntable level on it. Anyone got a memory foam pillow? Might be worth a try-and cheap!

I've been very lucky finding stuff on CL. Heritage II's for $200-Chorus II's for $225-my Pioneer Elite 92TX amp for $325........One tip-use the search box on the main page sometimes instead of going straight to the electronics section.IE-type in Klipsch on the main page under all for sale and sometimes you will find stuff miscategorized on the furniture or musical instrument forums-just bought a Carver CT26 Av preamp and a 5 channel Carver amp that was listed in addition to a computer in the computer section.

I pulled everything completely apart and put it all back together and it seems to be working ok now-thanx

I bought a Carver Ct26v preamp and a Mt500 amp from Craigslist and when I hook up my Thorens 110 turntable to the pre I get a loud hum that increases with volume. I have the ground hooked up to the pre-I even tried to hook it to the ground on the amp, then jump a wire between the amp ground and the pre ground but nothing seems to cure it . I have this hooked to my Lascalas and don't have the hum when it's on the tuner. I don't have any manuals for anything so I'm flying blind, The Carver forum has manuals, but they want 50 posts to access that database. Anyone have any ideas?Thanx

Wellll-I finally stayed in town long enough to hook up my SVS PB/12 Ultra Sub yesterday. I bought it used in Miami a month ago but haven 't been home long enough to hook it up. MERCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOOOOOOOOO DOGGGGY- this thing. rocks the house. Just as I got it hooked up U571 came on Direct TV and the depth charge scene was enough to make me move to the hills. I don't quite have it dialed in yet, and will probably move it. It takes the place of my KSW15 and it is huge. Musically it is very tight and fast-but this thing can move some air. Upper management has already commented that it is shaking the entire house. I did not tell her that is the intent. Very, very happy so far. Probably the last sub I will ever need. Right. For now.

Khorns front, 2 Heresy II's as centers split on either side of my console, Chorus II's as rears, KSW 15 Sub---I like it, but of course I can't leave well enough alone La Scalas in the shop about to get painted as rears, Academy I bought yesterday in Jacksonville as center, and a SVS PB/12 Ultra in my buddys garage I'm working on getting up enough nerve to bring home and sell upper management on Boys, i don't think this is just a hobby anymore-I'm hiding speakers in other people's garages!!! Got to be a 12 step program somewhere!

I've also been jonesin for a SVS-preferably used-I need to find one in Florida to avoid the monster shipping charge.
-
Does anyone have any experience with the Outlaw Audio Subs-I'm looking to upgrade my KSW-15 and Outlaw has a good deal on their stuff shipped. Any Ideas?

Make sure you check Sears for price before you buy. I shopped hard for my new Panasonic 50" plasma TH-50PZ85U and Sears had a deal with a Sears charge you could pick whether to have no interest for a year or an immediate 10% off- and they were cheaper than BB an CC already with no delivery charge. Couldn't be happier with the TV. They say 1080 is only noticiable with a BluRay player, so I went out and bought a BluRay. Had to rationaize the extra $ somehow.
