  1. I had the tone controls flat but did run a sub. A room that size, the 3's needed a little help on occasion. The highs were never an issue for me though. Try moving them around some, in/out, different toe-ins. How did the Sony sound?
  2. How big is the room? Placement may be playing a role here with the room size. I ran RF-3's with 3490 for a while and found it to be a great combo, but the room was a 17'X18'. Had to play around with location a bit but it was well worth it.
  3. Well, it's been awhile since taking possession of these speakers. The t-5000's are getting play time in the main system and I'm enjoying them immensely. The KG 2.2's have been sitting in the basement til a week ago. I had some free time, so I decided to refinish them......beatup black lacquer. These aren't the best pics but they look soooo much better. Before: After: I used a Minwax stain called Picked Oak. It's a white wash really but looks great....@ least to me. I've rotated my bedroom system so these beauties are getting some playing time now and being driven by a very modest Pioneer SX-550.....what a match.
  4. I love my RF-3's, great speakers.....I'd try to get the price down though.
  5. I'll toss out another receiver option, the Harman Kardon 3490.
  6. That's a good score for sure. I traded a yardsale pair of 901 VI's ($35) for RF-3's a few years back.
  7. Yes they are. It was going to be a temporary fix til I found something better but I've grown to like them.
  8. I'm on my own for a few days while the better half is on travel, so I brought the T-5000's up from the basement to give them a good listening to. I have them running in the living room off the HK-3490 and they sound wonderful. Like night and day from the Heresy II's I had last year. I have Diana Krall's Steppin' Out playing on CD playing....sweeet. It looks like the Tangents will be seeing some play time after all.
  9. Thanks for the info guys. I tested the T-5000 and kg 2.2. last night and both pair sounds really good. The T-5000 are a little shy on bass @ low volume but when power is supplied, they really do sing. The more power the better. I found a mint pair of Heresy II"s last year but didn't really like them.....sounded flat but these I like, better detail. The KG 2.2 aren't bad either...nice little pair of bookshelves. All in all, I think it was $50 well spent.
  10. I just picked up a HT setup a fellow was using. Pair of T-5000 (Tangent), pair of KG 2.2 and a Tangent Theater (center channel) for a hopping $50. Everything looks to be in good condition so far. I couldn't audition them because he was packed up ready to move but did tell me to call back if there were any issues...I should know more when I get home this evening. Can anyone share opinions/experiences with the T-5000? They're the main reason I got the package. Thanks,
  11. The check's already in the mail.[]
  12. Great thread! I've been trying to figure out how to setup the CD as coaxial and thanks to this thread it's a done deal. Thanks guys.
  13. I run a pair of RF-3's in a 17'x18' room with no complaints for a lack of bass. This wasn't always so.....when I first got the RF-3's I was using a low wattage amp that didn't do the 3's justice and was force to add a sub to supplement the bottom end. I recently purchase a HK 3490 receiver and hello bass. The HK 3490 is good solid receiver with some decent power and nice features that definitely fit the bill in my situation (2.1 setup). I still have the sub hooked up but mainly use it for movies. The 3's are bright for sure but I think with the right/more powerful amp and placing them closer to the wall, your RF-3's can still "Git-ur-done".
  14. No fool here! Now if I can just convince my fiance` to not KILL ME for buying them and let me insert them into the system (she's very fussy about aesthetics).... What woman isn't? Saw the 2-channel setup on MTF.........pool table huh? nice.
