  1. Thanks. I'm new to this whole home theater thing, so bear with me. I guess I could pick the RB's up and hold on to them till I get a house. They are going for $150 which seems cheap. The RS are pretty pricey in comparison and may have to wait on those.
  2. When you say use them as"rears" you mean place them directly behind you and not on the sides of the wall? I don't quite have enough room for a set up like that, was looking to put some speakers to the left and right of where I'd be sitting, for now at least.
  3. Hey folks, someone local is selling a set of RB-51 bookshelve speaders and I thought they might make a good surround speaker. Right now I have 83's and a 64 up front and running 5.1. Do you all think these would work as surrounds or would I be better off using RS-62/52/42? What are the advantages/disadvantages to using either of these? Thanks for the advice.
  4. I just recently purchase my 83's and are happy with them so far. I wasn't sure what to expect since this was my first high-end audio purchase, so I can't really compare to anything except the Paridigm Monitor series I demoed. I don't recall the 83's having as much detail or maybe its mid bass (Paradigm has mid bass woofer), but that may be due to my receiver settings and the fact its a 300 dollar yami system. The 83's have tons of bass for an 8 inch woofer, but nothing too low like you'd get out of a sub...I was watching War of the Worlds today and was surprised at how low they will go. Music sounds good (tech, pop, rock, jazz, reggae) on these things and the sound stays clear as you turn them up. If size and money aren't problems for you, then I'd go with the 83's. If you already have a sub woofer and need to save cash, then I'd probably go with the other (actually I'd probably just buy the 83's, but thats me).
  5. I used all 6 sticky pads on mine, but have lying completely flat since my tv sits on top (temp until wall mount it). It does seem like an afterthought fro something that costs so much. I was thinking about putting a towel underneath to keep it from scratching, but going to see how it holds for now. Rubber door stops sounds like a good idea
  6. I was going to buy the WF-35 and WC-24 from BB, but came upon a pretty good deal, I think. I stumbled upon a comm. compay who normally installs phones, networking ect. for businesses and home stereo is only 15% of their work. They had a set of RF-83's and a RC-63 center as a demo and sold it for half the price of MSRP including warranty. THey said the speakers were almost never used and they don't normally get customers like myself walking in there to buy speakers, usually rich guys with 500k plus homes who own the business' they work on. I got pretty lucky, but you never know where a deal might be, so may as well look around for a while. Best Buy has a pretty high mark-up and is hard to get a good deal unless you buy an "open box" item or employee discount, which still isn't that great of a deal (employee depends on the markup of that particular item). This particlular dealer I bought from said they would knock 10% off of any brand new purchase I made, which is better than BB most of the time. Bose is ok, and not a bad deal if you can get a set used (highly discounted of course). Good luck!
  7. Disregard last post; I found a thread on wiring. Thanks again for your help.
  8. Thankyou everyone for your responses and advice. I went ahead and bought the Reference Klipsch, but have yet to hook them up. They towers are huge and look great. I was worried about space, but think it'll work out. HShould I bi-wire the speakers or use separate wiring (not sure of the advantage here without separate high and low outputs on the receiver). I don't plan on getting an amp any time soon so won't be able to benefit.
  9. THe part of the room I'll be using is 14 x 11'. Unfortunately its connected with the dining room, so its probably not ideal for any quality stereo setup, but its what I have right now till I get my dedicated basement.
  10. The more I read of this forum, the questions I have about these speakers. Do you all think that 13 ft of listening distance is enough to get the most out of or atleast the difference between them and a smaller tower? I'm kind of limited with space right now and 13ft will be the listening distance when watching movies. I don't want to get something that will be too much for my limited space. Thanks again for the replies; I want to get the 83's, but want to make sure I have enough room to enjoy them.
  11. So far it seems the Icons sound similar to the Reference series and physically are smaller and better suited for confined spaces. Would there be any advantage in choosing the Reference over Icon? Pricewise they will come out the same (ref is a demo) except the Icon may be bit cheaper due to an offerred discount. Thanks for all the replies so far, just trying to figure it out by today so I don't pass up a good deal.
  12. I know the Pioneers have a good picture, but this seems like the king of plasmas. maybe next a plasma will be in my living room
  13. Thank you for the replys so far and I have another question: Is the WF-35 WC-24 supposed to be better speakers than the reference series? I know the Reference cost more, but they came out 3 to 4 years ago. Just wondering if maybe they stumbled onto some newer technology that allows them to produce a better speaker at a ccheaper cost. I apologize for my ignorance, but I am new to this HT thing (Bose doesn't count).
  14. The speakers seemed pretty easy to listen to for the most part, but only spent about 10 mins total. He threw in a movie so we could sample the "realism" and it sounded really good, great highs, but seems to lack mid bass compared to the Paragims. There was a gun shot in the movie and it made me jump it was so loud. I'm hoping a few more people will chime in tonght so I can make a decision by tomorrow. I definitely like the size of the WF-35, just trying to get a feel for what they sound like.
  15. I considered a plasma, but figured the LCD would suit my needs better. I'm assuming the Plasmas still have the image burn in issue, since I haven't read otherwise, and didn't seem as bright which I prefer. I wish I could get a second screen (plasma) and use it strictly for movies, but my Samsung will have to do for now. Congrats
