  1. I posted this in the Computer but didn't get any response. So I will try here. Here's the situation, I have an IMac computer, I had a set of Boston Acoustics speakers and sub woofer, well they gave up and died, about 13 years old. Does anyone have some good ideas about what I can use? I guess I could just buy a new pair of speakers and sub to go with the computer, or I certainally have enough stuff around the house to put something together that would make some pretty good sound, good for a computer anyway. The only issue I have is that not a whole bunch of space to put everything. The sub is not an issue as it can go under the desk, but space is limited for the speakers. Got an good ideas. Cigarbum
  2. I have been using some Boston speakers and sub woofer with my IMac. Well I believe I blew one and the speakers. I see Klipsch has a set up, does anyone have any experience with these? I don't want to spend a bunch of money, are they worth the money or is there something else for less money that may be better? I don't have a ton of space so size is important. Cigarbum
  3. I have really been trying to be good and stay out of this, I can't stand it. As I sit here in front of my computer, smoking a real fine Fuente Anejo 77 shark (my favorite by the way) ,yes I smoke in the house, the cats don't care, besides they're outside catching mice or something. Excuse me but I had to get up and pour about 3 fingers of Macallan 18 also one of my favorites. And people ask me why do you live way up there in the sticks, there is nothing there, yup and I like it that way. After spending 34 years with the Railroad, I am spending life the way I want to, Yup I like it that way. Having obtained the ripe old age of 65, yes Medicare this year and in pretty good shape for the shape I'm in, and if I fall out tomorrow, no problem, as some wise individual said, it's been a great ride. By the way, if any of you guys who partake in the evils of smoking those nasty cigars want to come to the mountains to share a Cuban, come ahead. Cigarbum
  4. OH, let me count the ways. Too many to list. I would be remiss is you don't have a good glass of single malted in the other hand. Cigarbum
  5. The first thing you do is take the equalizer that came with them and throw it down the hill and use something else, they will sound better. Cigarbum
  6. The R2R that Canyonman described seems to fit the bill. I have looked around and there is a few on EBay. I hate to buy one off them, with my luck I would end up getting a box from one of the carriers that was drop kicked down the hill to my front porch and what was inside the box is a pile of junk. I'm not really ready to purchase, got a few things hanging out, Uncle Sam, just turning 65, Social Security (Railroad Retirement), need a new stove/microwave, hearing aids, you know you never get get ahead, should all be settled down in a few months. So if anyone has one of these critters Otari MX5050Bll and may be getting rid of it let me know, whatever it is has to be in good working condition, up here in the sticks the changes of finding someone to work on something like this will never happen. Thanks guys. Cigarbum
  7. Jeff, I will be in touch in the very near future, maybe you can bestow on me some of your knowledge about R2R/ Fenderbender, thank you for the offer, depending on what I get, I will take you up your offer. Thanks aagain. Cigarbum
  8. I know I have asked this question before, I think. I still have the 2 channel reel to reel bug. I have read a ton of stuff on the web and of course everyone claims to be the best. For some of you who had some good experience with reel to reel, I would like to get a good quality deck say for around $750. I am confused on several areas, what speeds? what size reels? what size tape 1/4" - 1/2" ? auto playback? 2 track, 4 track and a whole flock of other offerings. Can you suggest some of the vintage decks out there that may suit my needs? I guess I would start buying some pre-recorded reel to listen to, maybe record some stuff. I would very much like to hear some of your recommendation of what I should be looking for. Thanks you in advance for your attention. Cigarbum
  9. I have one also. It was a big ol black and white Panda, as I remember it was bigger than I was, I must have been 4 or 5 at the time. I can't remember what ever happened to him or maybe it was a her, don't know. Cigarbum
  10. I have a 2270 etched face ( kind of rare I'm told ) I purchased a few years ago supposed to be in perfect working order, have you heard that before, paid $300. Shipped it off to get refurbished, shipping $50, took 6 months to repair, cost plus shipping $550. Plugged it in and the dreded smoke, crap, packed it up, sent it back, shipping, #50. I got it back 1.5 years later. So what is it worth about $950, but it does sound wonderful and the pretty lights. No one said I was the smartest person around, I'm sure everyone has gotten themselves in this type of situation. Cigarbum
  11. Now if you really want make up the stuff as outlined above and then add some Drano to it. Run. If memory serves me, it blew the toilet up, or course that was a 1000 years ago. So far the score" Cigarbum 7 - rodents 0 No, I would really like to have a hootnanny with the little critters instead, I will even bring the food, they haven't responded to my invite, yet. Cigarbum
  12. I applied 2 gallons of ammonium to the floor and surrounding walls in the garage this morning. I hope this will run them out of there, it sure ran me out, that stuff in nasty. I haven't seen any signs of Mr. Rodent in a few days, maybe all the deterants have worked, sure hope so. Thanks again guys. Cigarbum
  13. I guess this is what scares me the most, the government. The Railroad always made things very easy, now I'm not sure what is going to happen. The Railroad will in fact provide me with a Licensed Benefit Advisor, whatever that means, to assist me me in the proper selection and to make the process seamless. ya, I bet. Parts D,E,F, whee will it end??? Cigarbum
  14. I am about to achieve the ripe old age of 65 in a few months. I have been recieving a ton of mail about Medicare "stuff". I am a retired Railroad (CSX) employee, I have never paid Social Security, it always been Railroad Retirement which differs a little. I am single and have some medical problems all being controlled at the present time. Up in to this time I have been covered under the insurance policy of the Railroad that I believe will end and will convert to Medicare. Does anyone have any insight in the selection that are offered. My main objective is to get greatest coverage with the least amount of out of pocket expensives. Any help will be appreciated. Cigarbum
  15. Well, I have gotten about as much in the way of trapping devices, spring traps, glue pads and the rat zapper (2). I have been fairly successful in the elimination of several critters, mostly mice and rats. I will give this method a few more days then I will move to the shallow pans of ammonium under the cars and spray everything else down just for good measure, I will not spray the cars. I believe this will get rid of most of the critters and give me some monitary relief from these pesty things. I would like to thank everyone for their input, it has been a great help, Thanks. Cigarbum
  16. Well, I have returned from rodent elimation outing, I have procured the following" little mouse traps, big rat traps, glue pads. The only thing tht I could'nt find were the electronic eliminators, one women told me that they didn't make them anymore because it was a inhumain way of dispatching pesty critters. Well it's OK to poison them, it's OK to break their necks, break their ear drums with sonic waves, cats can eat them, you can shoot them, but God forbid if we use electric to fry them, give me a break, some people just have too much time on their hands. Just ordered 2 of the electronic devices from Amazon, next day shipping, be here tomorrow. Again, if I offend anyone, I'm sorry, until they pay me back all the money I have spent repairing my cars, this is WAR. Will keep you aprised of my progress. Cigarbum
  17. Well, you guys have given me enough ideas that I going out this morning and gather up a bunch of critter killing materials. Rat-Zapper, sticky pads, bait, and for the squirrles I have a nice CZ .17HMR that should do OK. Sorry if any of my methods offend anyone but drastic critter damage result in drastic measures. I will WIN. Thanks for all the ideas. Cigarbum
  18. I have two cars, well I should say a Jeep Wrangler and Infiniti SUV, I just got the Infiniti FX50S about 2 weeks ago, traded in a FX35. To get to the story, the war is being waged with all the rodents, mice, rats, Squirrles and whatever else there is. These critters have cost me about $700 in replacement of wires and other parts under the hood of my cars. They started with the Jeep and moved on to the FX35, now I have a new FX50S, they have decided to munch on it $350 today. This has got to end. Does any one have some good ways to get rid of them, I have cats,so poison is out of the question, I have tried moth balls, peppermint oil, these electronic repellers and nothing seems to work. I think all the stuff I have put in the garage keeps the cats away, so they are useless. HELP PLEASE. Cigarbum
  19. ya, sorta. It is sure better than the original. Cigarbum
  20. I will have to admit, I own a pair of Bose 901's. I would have never paid $0.10 for then but, they were given to me free, so I took them. I even got the equalizer box with them. Hooked then up and they really didn't sound very good at all. Read a fair amount and finally decided to throw the equalizer box down the hill and used just an old slide type equalizer, after messing with it for a while, it really didn't sound bad. I have them hanging in my shop in the basement. How do they compare to my Khorns (enclosed backs) and my DBB, not even close, but I will also say I have heard a lot worst. They were free, what the hay. Cigarbum
  21. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night CigarBum
  22. Yes, I did build them with my own little three hands, they are 223Hz, the drivers on those are JBL 2482 and 2445J. I hope to test them in the next few days. The 2482 are what I have on my DBB, and they sound really nice. Cigarbum
  23. I'm feelin a little horny here.
  24. Please, if you guys and gals have any more recipes get them in the thread so I can get Sweetie Pie to get them types. Got a local Buddy that is going to get me his. With his we will have about 100. Cigarbum
