  1. triceratops, In my experience, the FR200 is a very mediocre speaker. My church had one of these flown as the main speaker for the sanctuary, before I replaced with a pair of Klipsch KI-262's. In fact, the speaker was so inadequate, I temporarily installed a pair of Heresy's (not industrial) until the 262's arrived. The Heresy's were much better, and the KI-262's are terrific. I have saved the EV for possible "less critical" use. PGH
  2. I just noticed the Klipsch website no longer has the KI362 in the current commercial lineup. Has this speaker been removed from production? What will take the place of the 362? PGH

I'm looking! ---------------- Is there a particular reason you're looking for the HIP's? If for a commercial application, I can personally recommend the more recent Klipsch commercial line, such as the KI262 and KI362. pgh

  5. One of the moderators had indicated in a previous post several months ago, that Klipsch would be introducing new products in the commercial speaker line, and that in fact they had hired additional R&D help for these new models. Any idea when these speakers will be introduced? Also, since the line array has become so popular in commercial applications, is Klipsch considering developing a line array? PGH
  6. Earl, The specs for the KI362 and KP682 are posted on the Klipsch website. Here are the links to the pages: http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=730&s=specs http://www.klipsch.com/product/product.aspx?cid=498&s=specs
  7. I'm speaking of the commercial line, particulary those speakers which can be "flown", such as the KI-362, KI-215, etc. I recently installed a pair of KI-262's in my church, and they are now discontinued. I was just curious if this line of Klipsch loudspeakers will be expanded?
  8. Is Klipsch designing/producing new commercial models? I have noticed some of the existing commercial speakers have been discontinued, and wondered if they were to be replaced.
  9. I just purchased a pair of KI-262's for my churhc, and have a question on the specs. On the Klipsch website, the FR for the 262s is indicated as 77Hz 20kHz +/-4db, -10db @ 66Hz. The cut sheet and owners manual indicate the KI-262 FR is 75Hz 12.5kHz +/-4db, -10db @ 64Hz. Which is correct? And if the top end is 12.5kHz, what is the problem, if any, with the cutoff at that level? I understand that FR is just one indication of sound quality, and not necessarily a good one, but would the 12.5kHz be a serious limit?
  10. Believe it or not, those speakers are made in Brest, France.
  11. Hey guys!! I got a response from Tim Cahill, the writer of the infamous 1975 Rolling Stone article on PWK! Below is the email I sent to Tim, and his response. He would like to sit in on the Klipsch BB one night. If we can agree on what night would be best (see his schedule below), I will coordinate with Tim. :sun:] ----- Tim, I'm writing you in reference to Paul Klipsch. As you may know, Paul passed away in May of this year, and will be greatly missed. You're article insert for Rolling Stone in 1975 has been a great conversation piece for many Klipsch fans over the years.I would like to ask a tremendous favor (I'm sure you get many), and invite you to sit in on the Klipsch Bulletin Board one night, and recount some stories of your visit to Hope. There will be very keen interest if this is possible. You will be surprised by the number of members on the BB, and also the # of posts each day. Best Regards, Paul Harris ----- Paul, I would love to sit on the Klipsch board one night. Unfortunately, I am in Chile for the next several weeks. Then I go to Thailand. I will be available from December 15 to 23 or after January 23. I'm sorry to hear of Paul Klipsch's death. Strange: I still listen to the La Scalas, which I bought from rock star (and former college buddy) Steve Miller. Best, Tim Cahill

I agree that even when JH made an adverse remark, it would not detract from the reported merits of the equipment under review: i.e., cluttered face panel, small controls, unappealing grills, etc. I wonder what ever happened to the mg. or if it still in circulation. ---------------- The link below takes you to the reincarnation of Stereo Review: http://www.soundandvisionmag.com/index.asp Hey, I just went to Sound&Vision Online, and read their only review of a Klipsch product - Klipsch Synergry 6 Speakers by Ken C. Pohlmann. Mr. Pohlman, obviously a seasoned reviewer, begins page 2 of the review with "I started my audition with music." As opposed to what - banging two pie plates together? See what I mean about reviews (and reviewers)? OH, and to continue: "It was immediately obvious that the KSB 1.1s were intent on surrounding me with a bright, forward sound quality. For example, on James Taylors Hourglass (which won a Grammy for best-engineered album) the KSBs really projected his voice it virtually leapt from the cabinet. The effect provided a great sense of presence while robbing his vocals of some intimacy and warmth, and it also subjectively yielded a sound that seemed smaller than it should be. Moreover, that kind of sonic ambition does not agree with my own preference for warm, dark speakers." Whadda he say?! This SOB bipolar, or what? The got medications to clear that crap up right away! "...warm, dark speaker."? Supposed to listen to them, not drink 'em.
  13. Without reading the article again, and not having read SR in a long time, I think many, if not all, of those reviews by Mr. Hirsch were sugar-coated to some degree. There appeared to be much politics (or salesmanship) going on in those reviews. Those products reviewed were made by companies purchasing ad space in SR. I don't remember, and again its been awhile since reading SR, ole Julian every giving a real thumbs down on any audio product run through his lab. Don't get me wrong, I love the Forte, as in my family we own three pair, but like you, we purchased only after listening. When someone may ask me to recommend a loudspeaker (and that's not often), I suggest Klipsch, but I also tell them to listen to as many as possible and purchase the loudspeaker which sounds best to THEM, and of course is within their price range. No need to take out a second mortgage to get good sound. I just don't rely much on those reviews, and only as a starting point if I read about a product that sounds interesting. Personally, and just my opinion, I think Julian was "placating" Paul after years of professional tension. Is it just me, or did Mr. Hirsch look like a member of the Coneheads?
  14. You know PWK and Julian had a war of words early on in the life of Stereo Review. Is seems Julian reveiwed a Klipsch loudspeaker, and did not give it a glorious thumbs up(WHAT!). The Colonel took offense, and sent a letter to Julian that was published in the next issue. The letter was technical in nature, of course, and kinda slammed Hirsch and the mag. After that review, it was several years before Paul would allow SR any Klipsch speaker for review. I'll post the article (and letter) if I can find. Paul had this tendancy to "look down his nose" at those he considered less technically adept (at least early on), and particulary those that spouted terms he thought they knew nothing about. Thus, the "BS" pin. One of the first Klipsch dealers, located in Shreveport, LA, told Paul that "he was his on worst salesman", because of talking down to dealers, prospective and existing. As Paul said in the RS article, "My company went broke, Bob Moers company made money." Just think, if not for Mr. Moers there may not have been a Klipsch & Associates. That Hirsch review of the Forte's sold many of them speakers!
  15. Christ, you MF's are SICK!! I thought these names you have on the BB were just funny little labels, but I now see they are indicators of a much deeper problem. "In Need Of Therapy" is no longer cute, but scary (though not suprisingly.) It's bad enough I do this anonymously (kinda), but you want to get together at a convention? FU! Ever think maybe the Klipsch suits sit around at lunch monitoring the BB, laughing nervously at the monster they created, and wondering if this thing could ever possibly turn on them - knowing these "members" are also customers? If Paul were alive, and he saw this, he would be thinking about one of his favorite jokes concerning the gent who purchases the chain saw (see posted RS article.) I see some of the numbers of posts next to your "title," and I KNOW I don't want to achieve that level of "success." Okay, I made it to "Fast Newbie" or whatever the hell it is, and I'm satisfied. To go further is just to draw unwanted attention to yourself from those who may see that as some kinda celebrity status. And if I did show up at this prospective convention, I would have this continual nervous feeling that I should be ready to hit the floor at any moment. See, I couldn't enjoy myself anyway. But, you boys and girls go right ahead and get together and talk up the woofers, squawkers, and tweeters, and pull out photos of your cones and drivers and enclosures like there your GD children. So I guess what I'm trying to say is - one against the convention idea. Oops! Forgot to put my smileys! Here's hoping these little "talisman" ward off any serious retaliation. Love you guys!

  20. A friend of mine told me the other day that he recently had the chance to spend some time with Sidney Greenstreet, employee #1 of Bose. Or was it he said - DID some time? Anyway, I believe Mr. Greenstreet's title is "Head Pimp And All-Around Good Liar." Bose IS the great prostitute of the audio industry. I hope Klipsch can avoid that pitfall. Sure seem to be "growing"/expanding awfully fast. I've told this story before, but my first visit to Hope involved a tour of the factory, and my guide was an Electrical Engineer from MIT, who worked in the Klipsch R&D department. Kinda makes you wonder why he was giving tours!? MIT's where Dr. Bose taught Wood Working 101, ya know. Anyone gotta mint - I have this nasty Bose taste in my mouth.
