  1. If you're not opposed to vintage stuff you can really do well on both ebay and Craiglist if you're willing to wait a bit. I picked up a mint Sansui B3000 for 60 bucks and a mint PL400 for 175. I prefer CL because I can audition it and skip the hassle and expense of shipping. But a few years ago I helped a bud steal a very nice amp on ebay. There have been some smoking deals in the Grage Sale section of this site recently as well. Good luck and have fun.
  2. Dogs just touch a different part of your being. I miss my every dog I every had and I'm old as dirt. Nola was gorgeous. I'm sorry for your loss.
  3. Timely segue and I am sorry for Jacking the thread but.....WRT CF3 and KLF 20: When I FINALLY got some KLF20s and A/B'd them with my CFs, I was initially disappointed. I expected the 20s to slaughter the CFs. Not so. Different yes, but not a slaughter. It just reinforced my love for the CFs. I'll just leave it at that. They are both fantastic but require slightly different settings to maximize the smile quotient. Then again, my SS stuff isn't nearly up to par with what many of you run and may contribute to my anal-asis. Buy them all and let The Jesus sort em out!!!! Or words to that affect. You'd be surprised how many you can fit in one room. Especially when there is no SWMBO!
  4. "Woof". This is Abbydog. She's too cool for school. She is my granddaughter. Almost a perfect dog, but every now and then she likes to take herself for a long walk and roll in something dead and really smelly. She loves Lingonberry Pancakes.
  5. Thanks for the kind words. Fortunately, the flood did not kill my CFs. In fact, unless you were looking very closely you'd never know it. From the front, there is nothing apparent. From the sides, one or two of the seams in the veneer swelled up, but it's hard to notice unless you run your hand across it. On the back the MDF has pushed out just about 1/8" along the bottom edge. That's the worst spot and feel like I got off easy. I was worried that they'd just fall to pieces and the sides would completely delaminate. And since they're so tall, the components inside were all high and dry. The ports allowed the insides to fill with water and I had a hair dryer running in them for a week Selling the KG4s this weekend to a friend, so that will help pay for all the stuff I acquired.
  6. Smokin deal on the Fortes! Congrats.
  7. Very good! And fast. Give the Governor a harrumpf!
  8. So, this random Dude on Craigslist claims to have a mint pair of RF-35s. Right! "What am I, a schmuck on wheels"? (Name that movie) So I go see them. They now reside in my domo and augment my HT system. They're black, mint, with all paperwork and mint boxes. As new, IOW. 200 bucks! I'm having a great week KLF 20s, C7, a sub, now this.....sweeeeet. If only that FTD gal from the Superbowl commercial will come over and help me set all this stuff up!!
  9. THANKS. I hooked the 35s up to B on the amp and simply run both A and B simultaneously. SO FAR, the amp seems happy but it isn't properly set up. IOW, I just bought it and haven't had the time to run through the entire setup. Plus, I don't have the manual in hand. Trying to do it off the laptop gives me a headache The amp seems happy enough and both the CFs and the RFs are on during Goodfellas. Doctor Melfi is giving Henry Hill all kinds of crap and it sounds great, but the rears are WAY behind. Oh hell, I have a roomful of Klipsch..what's not to like?
  10. Great idea. But I am a lowly renter and the super of my crackhouse would certainly take umbrage should I get CroMag with his hovel. So, I'll just add to my tumbler and enjoy the sublime audio emanating from my Craigslist collection and ignore the unsightly octopussy of wires.
  11. They can be had for so little money (in comparison to what they cost new) and will give you so much enjoyment I think your best approach would be to acquire all three! Make up your mind later on which you prefer the most.
  12. Ok I stuffed a pair of RF-35s in the gap between the KLF20s and the centers to clean things up a bit. Most of the wiring is now concealed, as is most of the wall!
  13. Sorry, it's RF-35. I'll edit and correct the original post. The receiver is a Yamaha RX v1500. If there is a suitable alternative I'm all ears. IF I simply select speaker A and speaker B on the Yamaha, will it play all four fronts simulateously, and equally in both DVD / HT and TV operation? Seems like it would but I'm not up to speed on HT. I'll hook it up like that and see. At least I know I won't be harming the reciever in that manner.
  14. I've got an outstanding dilemma and I need some guidance. Please bear with my ignernce... I just bought a mint pair of RF 35s and I have two places to put them. My preference it to place them in my HT setup with my Fronts (CF-3) and have them play concurrent with the CFs in HT operation. My KG 5.2 serve as the rears. I cannot use the RF35s as rears because they are too tall for the only place I could put them. Q. Would it be bad to run a short wire from the second set of posts on the CFs to the RF35s? Or would that cause problems? I know that it would "work", but is there anything inherently wrong with that type of setup? Any weird feedback issues or other??? My only other decent option would be to place them in the bedroom with my Fortes and simply run a set of wires to the B output on the Sansui. Not that there would be anything wrong with that, but don't use the bedroom set up much. It's a small condo and I am running out of space. In addition, if I can place them in the HT set up, I will have a pretty righteous wall of Klipsch with the CFs outboard, KLF20 inside them, RF35s inside them, and then a KLF-C7 and Academy stacked in the center. I think that would put a big damn grin on my face and scowl on my neighbors. Thanks for any input.
  15. Money shot. Still havn't figured out how to run the wires without making a mess. I think I'll just buy a long low bookcase or something. This looks like hell, but sounds pretty good!
  16. Finally got a sub so here's a pic. The KLF 20s are not a part of the system. They are for 2CH. Fronts - CF3 and RF-35s Centers - Academy and KLF C7, Rears - KG 5.2s, No surrounds, Sub KSW 15 Yamaha RX V1500, Samsung 42inchmuchtoosmallcantwaittoupgradetoatleasta50" Plasma
  17. Thanks Dtel, I used the splitter since that's what the PO used. I just used half of a R/W RCA jack. In that way, it all made sense, but it's nice to know that I wasn't smoking crack. The auto function works great and I noticed it cycle on and off during quiet passages in Apollo 11. I figured that I may as well toss something in with at least a rocket launch or something similar for my maiden Sub voyage. Oddly enough the PDF file for the KSW 15 deals with several other Klipsch subs. In fact, none of them are labeled as the KSW 15. The only one listed with a 15" speaker is called the KSW 300 and none of the knobs on the back are in the same posn as on my 15. So, that made it seem a bit greek but I was able to make some edumacated guesses. Overdoing the bass during music won't be a problem as I split my system today and will only use the sub with the HT setup and the CF3s, KLF-C7 and Academy. That will be TV and DVDs only. Occasionally I may watch some music vids streamed through the Laptop HDMI. For music I'll use just the KLF20s and KH5.2s using a different set of amps. Thanks for the info.
  18. As hideous as yesterdays show was, you had to go and mention last years Black Eyed Peas show. Now that was one phenomenally heinous extravaganza. Thanks for picking open a festering pustule in the memory of my warped mind! If we can't get the funksters, how bout they bring back the Sweedish Bikini Team and let them lip synch Devo songs? Since TALENT is no longer a requirement we may as well enjoy what we have to watch.
  19. Since it's a football game, and since all over America marching bands play at halftime, might I suggest a BIG marching band? Preferably one from an ALL BLACK college. The kind of marching band that puts TONS O' FUNK in the music and their routine. I dunno. Just a thought. Or, how about Trombone Shorty? If unfamiliar, google his Austin CIty Limits appearance. It's avaliable on YouTube and worth the time spent watching. Respectfully submitted, Douglas C. Niedermeyer, Sargeant at Arms.
  20. Just obtained one of these behemoths used and I don't have a manual. I will get my search on in short order but in the meantime..... There is a three positon power switch on the back. OFF - AUTO - ON. Now, I'm fairly clear on the on and off positions. My querie is this.....In auto, can I assume that it powers up and down on its own accord according to what exactly?? Does it sense current in the line from the amp? Or are there more mysterious methods at work? Juju? Planetary alignment perhaps? Secondly, my amp (Yamaha RX V1500) has but a single RCA style jack on the back for the sub. There are several +/- connectors on the speaker and my guess is that I will simply ignore these. There is also a single INPUT jack on the speaker. May I assume that a single RCA type jack from the Yamaha to the sub will work? The speaker itself has TWO RCA inputs, but there is a short pigtail from them to a single female end. There are several other swithches on the back which confound me, but I hope to figure them out once I download the manual and I ought to be able to give the unit a readh around to manipulate them. Right now I just want to wrestle it into position and continue getting it wired up. Can you say boom? Thanks in advance for any info and / or ridicule.
  21. I've got KLF20s and original Fortes with Bob Crites tweets. I have heard Chorus. You can't go wrong with ANY of them. They all sound fantastic. The only thing which might weigh into my decision to NOT pursue a set of Chorus is their size and footprint. Especially since I already have the other two and both can be moved by just one guy. They just don't dominate the room the way Chorus do. But that's chicken scratch in the scheme of things. Charlie West isn't all that far away from some big metro areas. Is Joey's still open? Keep the van fueled up and an eye on Search Tempest (Craigslist). I suggest a road trip with a strong friend with a drivers license. The speakers will repay you over and over for your effort.
  22. I thought it sucked. Sorry. But then again, I'm really old. At least it wasn't rap. I would have preferred Creedence. On a brighter note...12 packs of Pabst IN A BOTTLE were only $6.29. I bought two. Sipping bourbon now. Life is sweet!
  23. Perhaps a bit off the beaten path, but this tune always makes me smile. I think one needs to have listened to it a few dozen times first, but somewhere along the way it just hooks you in and I never grow tired of it. Slightly upbeat, yet oddly cathartic. "I think it's going to work out fine" It's on - Bop Till You Drop.
  24. [] Once I'm done breaking it in! Those KLFs really tie the room together!
