  1. I have a book called Do-It-Yourself designs by Jensen. I built what is called the "Jensen Imperial Reproducer" Free standing type for corner or side wall. The corner location is recommended. It does say that the back loaded folded horn was carefully matched to the special 15" low frequency unit. They were referring to the P15-LL. Decware is building what Jensen called the "Built-In type. It was the built in version of the Imperial. It was ment to be built flush into a wall, or it could be used free standing on a side wall. I don't know why they say side wall instead of wall. The built in type is an easier build and a little larger then the corner type.
  2. Soundbound, I found an old picture of the Imperial next to a Klipschorn. Go to "Updates and Modifications" and look for "K-Horn mod almost done" Hi John.
  3. Bump for Soundbound. In this topic you will find a picture of the Imperial next to a Klipschorn.
  4. I use and like PS Audio's products. http://www.psaudio.com
  5. I use four speakers for my surrounds and one pair of Lascalas and the pair of Imperials. I like the Imperials there because they add bass to the back of the room. Really nise when listening to DVD-Audio and SACD's, since both formets send full range to all channels.
  6. I built a pair, because I read that this was one speaker that got it right. I loaded it with Klipschorn networks and drivers to compare it to the Klipschorn. 50 Hz and below it makes the Klipschorn sound like a book shelf speaker. It pounds you with clean bass, and it's cool how the bass also exits around the midrange and tweeter horns. I measured it with warble test tones and a Rat Shack sound level meter. I think it was about 6 db louder at 50 Hz on down to 25 or 30 Hz., where the Klipschorn doesn't even go. It could be a speaker to die for with a little tweaking. Someday I may get rid of my six Klipschorns and go Imperial. First, I would need to get one of the speakers to John Warren or someone close to me who is capable of measuring it, and figurings out the best 15" woofer to use in it. Maybe the K-33 is ok to use? I have to look it up, but the bass horn is good to 600 or 700 Hz. That means it would be easier to find a good midrange driver and horn for it. You could even go two way with this bass horn. Maybe I should bite the bullet and gat one to John. It is also easier to build then a Klipschorn.
  7. I read some of your post on the AVS Forum. I'm glad that you found this topic here, so I can ask you a few questions. I don't know how "Craigsub" measures and test all of the subs that he compares, but it is an interesting ranking system. The guy seems to have the respect of all his peers, so I don't want to question him untill I read and observe more. I almost put in an order for the A7-900, then I looked closer at it's drivers and plate amp. The Conquest's driver and amp appear more robust looking. Do you find that to be true? I think both of these subs were said to have more punch then the Danley. Is that so? I hate to put you on the spot, but do yor prefer one over the other? My new plan is to order the Conquest, with the hope that one sub will be enought for my room. I'm running out of space with 6 Klipschorns and 4 LaScalas in it. I only have a couple of placement options for the sub. I am willing to get another Conquest if one can't perform like I hope it can, but because of available space I prefer not to Thanks, Q.
  8. Unless you have one square magnet woofer and one round magnet woofer, leave them alone. I think the P was a square magnet, The E is a round magnet. The K-33 (no letter) was some where in between. I must be getting old, I had them all, but I don't remember the sequence. Just don't mix the square magnet with the round magnet. The round magnet woofers do sound a little better then the older square magnet ones. That was one of my first tweeks that I did, convert all my woofers in my Klipschorns and LaScalas to the K-33 round magnet.
  9. Go to http://www.edesignaudio.com and look up the A7-900 dual 18" subwoofer. It is being talked about on the AVS Forum. It best the Epik Conquest and cost $ 2,000.00 which includes shipping the 450 pound beast to your door. They also did some more experimenting with the Conquest and found out that it sounds better on it's side. That doesn't surprise me. The woofer shound be near the floor.
  10. So, do you like the sound of the Altec 290 driver and the 311-90 horn? No one I know is using the combo besides me, and now you.
  11. More, more, please. I'm thinking of ordering the Conquest, and would like to hear your opinions. Q.
  12. If your referring to the Jenson replica in the photo, that's another story. The one in the photo is loaded with all stock LaScala drivers and horns with the AL-3 network. It was an experiment to try to compare the base sound of the Klipschorn to the base sound of the Imperial. I wanted the top sections to sound the same for this comparison.
  13. I believe that it was called a RP201 and the attached tweeter was an RP302. The mid handled the range from 600 to 4k Hz. The tweeter 4k Hz to 20KHz.
  14. Don't pay any attention to that S/N ratio. It was also a concern of mine before I started buying my McIntosh amps. I called McIntosh, Audio Classics, and my dealer, and asked a bunch of questions before buying. One answer that I liked came from an old timer at Audio Classics. He said what do you think Paul Klipsch used with his K-horns? Anyway, I use a MC202 for my mains (Klipschorns), another MC202 for my front and rear center channels (Klipschorns). I use an MC206 ( six channel amp) for my 2 LaScala front effect channels, 2 LaScala surrounds, and 2 Klipschorn surrounds. I have a 10.1 set-up. Room 17 x 29. I'm thinking of selling or trading in the Mc206 for the 207.
  15. Type in empire turntable on ebay, someone is selling a belt.
  16. Great turntable in it's day. I bought one in 1974, they sold for $450.00 then. I just looked on ebay and there are two of them there, take a look. Just make sure that you can still buy a replacement belt for it. The belts last a long time, but thay do stretch.
  17. That's what I would think, but the PB-13 uses a 750 Watt amp and the F-113 uses a 2500 watt amp. The F-113 looks like it has a more robust driver.
  18. TheEAR, So,what do you think? Would two Ultra 13's or one F-113 give me more of what I need?
  19. I went to the SVS site, but they really don't provide very good specs. I'm not sure I would try one from what I saw. But, at that price I could go with two of them and the Velodyne SMS-1. It would be that, or one JL Audio F-113.
  20. Has it been four years? Wow! I'm satisfied, The sound is sweet, and it stopped my need to tweak. I switched to McIntosh amps and a Parasound Halo prosessor, but you may know that. So I've just been listening for a change. I't been ninda nice. My first four years on the forum was change, change, change. BUT! I'm going to be building a new shop soon and the urge to build some more and maybe different bass horns is sure to return. I've been watching what you have been doing. Nice! I don't have a dedicated room [:'(].
  21. Behave yourself now,Indy.[:$] The Sunfire manual warns that the Signature will walk around the room when it's on a hard surface. The carpet trick works. Do yourself a favor and carpet the whole room. You will find that it sounds better that way. I hate carpet, but that and a thick pad does wonders for the room. Indy, I just received my Signature back from Sunfire, it was in for repairs. I had it repaired once before about four years ago. The poor little thing doesn't like playing with Klipschorns and LaScalas. It's time for a change.
  22. Kudret, Just for kicks look at the picture of the Jensen Imperial bass horn. The Imperial backed loaded horn puts out some powerfull bass. The Imperial may too be a good bottom for the Altec. I shound figure out a way to get one to Warren, so he can take some measurements.
  23. I pulled up an old post for you to look at. Go to John Warren's link to his wed site, and you will find a picture of the networks. He called it the Super Klipschorn project. I can mail you the parts list if you want. I still want him to make me another pair, if you want he can order parts for two pairs. I made the mounting boards for him, and I can do that again. The network uses two boards. The woofer choke and input terminal sits outside the speaker.
