  1. Give it time, Nectar, they'll try to legalize it somehow. This has all been of great interest to me since I was abused as a child, including a violent rape. Reading the grand jury report was like reading the MO of nearly every pedophile out there. I'll just say this: Any adult that involves himself (and I suppose herself) in activities with children, be it athletics, Sunday School, charities, and so on needs to fully vetted AND needs eyes looking on. NO unsupervised time witha child, period. As mentioned above, this stuff is pervasive and the perpetrators are predators of the worst kind. They have an uncanny sense for the weak, vulnerable & suceptible. It has yet to be shown that they can be rehabbed. I doubt it can ever be shown to be possible. Until then I advocate immediate castration upon conviction and then incarceration in a general prison population.
  2. Seemed like to me as well. Part of LSU's rushing stat was due to the ineffectiveness of their passing game. They had to run. No choice.
  3. Your right, I think that was the most defensive football I have ever seen, Bama also did a better job or running. Actually, dtel, LSU rushed 148 vs. Bama's 96 yds. In any case, both offenses sputtered, though overall Bama's was a bit more effective. I don't know if LSU goes all the way. They could stumble with Arkansas for sure, of the SEC championship vs. probably Georgia.
  4. Jaw-dropping deal, especially delivered. Beautiful speakers. Yeah, the crossovers look like they could use a refreshing or replacement. If it were me I'd cut to the chase and install ALK Universals.
  5. What a gorgeous cat, dtel!
  6. Though I'm an LSU fan, it will be tough to beat 'Bama on their home turf. As for the opponent, I'll venture that either Boise State or Stanford has the easist path to the big game. Either one will be mercilessly pounded by 'Bama or LSU. Then again, OkState or KState could walk in. It's not a given that the LSU/Bama winner will be in the big game. The winner could still stumble, and will have to go to the SEC championship game vs. the SEC East winner.
  7. I would think that in Iran that would be a great price for Cornwall I or II. For IIIs that is almost tooo cheap.
  8. May I suggest listening to them at sifferent spacings before building the corner? I would guess somewhere around 6 m will work, but these things are always room-dependent. Anyway, wherever sounds best to you is the spot.
  9. Longtime classical guitar player reporting for duty, sirs & ma'ams. We play with all fingers on both hands, an orchestra in our lap. I'm down to two fine luthier-built classicals...a cedar/Indian by Peter Oberg of San Diego and double-top spruce/Honduran rosewood by Randy Reynolds of Colorado Springs.
  10. Offhand, I don't think wall construction will be a factor as long as it is stout enough to function as a wall. A rug might help, but that depends on how the rest of the room is outfitted with furnishings, accessories, bookcases, etc. 7.5m is quite far apart. Your setup would benefit, probably significantly, with a center speaker, preferably a LaScala or Belle, though a Cornwall or even Heresy will do.
  11. For seafood gumbo, yeah, chocolate is the color for roux. For chicken (or turkey) & sausage gumbo, a lighter roux...medium brown...seems to work better. Bear in mind that the darker the roux, the less the thickening effect A dark roux imparts a smokey, somewhat nutty flavor. And yes, it is the secret sauce.
  12. The best studio I ever worked in used big Westlakes for playback. They are used for ultimate clarity...to hear the little stuff you might otherwise miss. Yes, they'll play loud, but not while I was there. Just realistic playback. That squares with what Westlake says about their studio monitors. BTW, they are fantastic speakers. Probably the best I've ever heard.
  13. I like your eclectic, holistic musical taste. Mhaler, Miles & electronica...hmmmm.
  14. Well, my dad's stereo sounded pretty darned good but it was a full Dyna tube setup, Weathers (then AR) turntable & Wharfedale speakers. My sharp young ears loved those golden tones.
  15. We "babysat" a pair of 50's Klipschorns in beautiful black gloss piano factory finish. The cloth was a cool, mainly black, nubby fabric with metallic and other threads woven in. Very 50's.
  16. It is indeed a cornerhorn, but all the parameters differ substantially from a Klipschorn. First of all it's a 2-way.The drivers are different, as is the nid-high horn. It's also much heavier, at around 250 lbs per speaker.
  17. I saw these in the "flesh" yesterday and the build quality is most impressive. I'm in awe ofstan's skills. Stan, I PMed you...
  18. Ran into Chet Baker once in New Orleans during his homeless alcoholic stage. He was residing in an empty storefront on Canal St. and busking for spare change. A local musician recognized him and persuaded Chet to record something with him. A delightful local cassette was the result. I bought one from Chet on Canal St. I need to pull that tape out for a listen.
  19. Yeah, Stan, we're having tool envy here. Well, I'm having brain-smarts envy, too.
  20. I had a Planar 3. Loved the arm, the design is straightforward but the 'table not so much. My Technics SP10 just walked all over it so I sold it. I'm sure the upper models are better, but the 3 was cheaply built and that cheap tiny motor...not my cup of tea. And I don't buy into that British Linnie thing of "pace-rhythm-timing".
  21. HEART BE STILL!!!! Reddish mahog, black ebony...very sleek and dressy look. Beautifully executed.
  22. Audiophools earn their stripes, not by ther ears, but by claiming their ears are telling them the wooden volume knob "resolves detail" better than the stock aluminum, or hears a wider, deeper soundstage with that $500 AC cord.
