  1. Hey guys I have Klipsch epic cf-4, I have a picture I am just wondering what version are they since I cant make sense of it. The serial number is 041594893 Thanks
  2. If you could stretch your budget a little bit you can get a refurbished/used onkyo 5007, it's a pretty robust unit. GL
  3. yeah, good decision going with the emotiva, they are best bang for the buck, also Consider xpa 3 since it come very close to power when its run with 2 channels and it costs less than the xpa-2. Do some research. good luck
  4. Hi, Buddy the CF-4 have to be the Best sounding speakers with the right amp, Tight controlled bass, nice Treb, and they arent going to cost a leg, unfortunately i do not know how the ksp-400's sound, i still believe theCF's will beat them. good luck
  5. Hi, make sure you get a good mosfet Amp, since Mosfets sound like tubes 90% i think lol. Also one more thing, try to get an amp that does class A operation up to 50 ot 70 watts, then switches to class A/B. Make sure you get something that does 200W or 250W in stereo mode. Try Krell's, Pass Labs, Adcom, Anthem and the best bang for the buck Emotiva, i dont know about Rotel never used any of their amps. I run a pair of Cf-4's rated at 300W with Passlabs x250.5, they sound amazing. good luck.
  6. Hey, yes those speakers do need a lot of power to shine properly. Those speakers are extremely huge when i went to get mine i was in a disbelieve for a while but eventually got a hold of my self. The floor raisers do help a lot in moving a 108lb speaker, so you might want to buy some after market feet and make it easier on your back. As far as the cabinet goes you can always make it a summer project and RE-DO it. i dont think the Excessive volume can damage the tweeter, i have played mine pretty loud and nothing has happend yet, but then again thats maybe once a month. But from the condition you describe above i would offer the seller around 430-450$. I have seen perfect CF-4's go for 650-700$.They are worth every penny when set-up properly. if you lived in minnesota you were welcome to come and audition mine with a high power amp. Also i have mine placed in a 15x15 living room, sometimes they feel too big for the room; they are also spouse friendly if placed cleanly. good luck
  7. Yea, 800$ is a fair price for them if they are in excellent condition, i dont know what i paid for my pair since i got them from trading some rf-3II's plus 300$, also i just sold an adcom gfa -555 on ebay yesterday for 300$ lol. Audition the speakers out before you buy them (that way you will be satisfied). good luck
  8. No problem buddy, One more thing, you can pick up ADCOM GFA-555 rated at 200w a piece (2 channel) and 600W in bridge configuration. i have seen them go for anywhere from 200-300$ in excellent condition, Adcom is a straight up company, no fancy gear, they are built like tanks; its stuff thats proven to work and wont cost an arm and a leg. i know that NAD amps are pretty good but i have never owned one my self, but if the reviews are good, i think you should go for it. good luck.
  9. Hi, the marantz MA-500 should work excellent but make sure to replace the Fuses in there, i did not modify my cf-4 because it lowers the efficency, i Would recommend not modding yours since you are going to be using them with a low wattage amps, but once you accuire something with more power then go ahead and mod your to the version 1's. Those speakers are rated at 300W a piece, i am running mine with an amp that does ~ 260W per channel, and so far so good. If you are going to use the marantz make sure you do not overdrive them, since you have a more chance of clipping your speakers with a lower power amps, Hope this helps. good luck []
  10. Sorry if i didnt answer properly but if you want good bookshelf then go with the definitive studio monitor 450,i have never owned any bookshelves but i did hear them at bestbuy. i know the klipsch B-3 are very good 2 but you need a subwoofer with them. The def tech studio 450 have a sub woofer built in, and they can be had for 350-450 on ebay. =D good luck
  11. Hi, welcome to the Forms. You can pick up some very nice speakers for under 500$, offcoarse they will be used. i have seen many of the KLF 10-30 series for any where from 300-600, which is a steal, i bought my mint cf-4's version 2 for 600. i bought a pair of RF-7 for around 750$, look on craigslist for deals, if you live in minneapolis we have a guy here selling RF-3 II for 150 (pair. those are nice speakers) and Klipsch K.G 5.2 for 250 mint condition. look for speakers that have 8" or more because they tend to be better with frequencies. good luck
  12. Hi, welcome to the forum. I have the same speaker version and model as yours, i would recommend running them on a dedicated amp. Maybe Emotiva xpa-3 or Emotiva xpa-2. It will bring them to life, also make sure you upgrade the Fuses on your emotiva amps, it will make your speakers sound substantially better. I am running my pair on a 20 year old adcom amp, Relaced the Fuses with high quality ones, made a huge difference. good luck. []
  13. hi, sorry guys but i dont understand why the bass would matter that much. i would personally recommend using an external subwoofer with your setup. i have a pair of cf-4 and those things can shake floors on their own but i put a synergy sub 12 with my setup and it made a huge difference, everything got clearer. I listen to all my music and movies in direct mode, everything sounds so much cleaner[], i know the klf-30 have bass reflex design so u could probably adjust the distance from your walls to reinforce bass. You said you listen to music like techno, from personal expirence i can tell you that techno is a very poor choise in determining your speaker qualities (since it varies), try some bass testers and see if they sound "right" to your liking. i have my crossover set to 80hz,while 80hz is far from perfect it does balance my sub and the mains.
  14. yes Bill thats what i am thinking too. Once i get the volume going they sound extremely nice. i got them cheap because the person did not have enough room. He had a lot of nice equipment for sale but my budget was low (he was renovating his house and had too much stuff). This pair is in very nice condition, as a matter of fact it had no stains marks or anything like that on them, just some dust which i cleaned immedietly []. he did have these listed for 800$, but in the end things worked out for both me and him. haris javed
  15. hi, thanks for the reply Bill. i did do a little research and determined the version i have is probably version 2, it has shorter ports in the bottom, the woofers and the horns are a bit different color. They do sound very impressive, but you really have to turn the volume up tp hear the detail, the vocals are very clear and the imaging is amazing. Although i have noticed the type of music makes a huge difference. These speakers are great if you listen to Jazz, Rock, orchestral music but they have harder time keeping up with fast music, if you listen to trance, techno (not made for them) then you probably will have to adjust the tone controls constantly, or better yet get a different pair of speakers. These speakers have added new depth to music that the rf-3 missed. if you live around minneappolis you are welcome to hear them. But overall i am very happy with the purchase considering i paid close to 600 for them. I might get some emotiva amps in the future, till then i will se them with my current receiver, but thanks again Bill. i appreciate your response. thanks haris javed
  16. hi , i am new to this forum. just bought a pair of klipsch cf-4 for about an rf-3 trade plus 300 dollars. The question is i am powering those with a pioneer VSX -82 TXV receiver rated for 130 x 2 @ 8 ohms for stereo power, where else my cf-4 are rated for 300 RMS. The guy who i bought them from had some adcom amps rated at 200 RMS x 3. Do you think i need to upgrade or buy seperate amps. Also i am looking at some Emotiva 3 channel amplifier. Any feedback will be nice. thanks in advance
