  1. No worries man. If you ever decide you want to off-load a few of those Emotiva amps, I'm local to you and I won't lowball you. Enjoy your stuff!
  2. I bookmarked this page and perhaps will check back soon. [Y]
  3. The sub is engaged in both modes. If the speakers where set to large and there was no high-pass filter, how does that make a difference in regards to the DAC (or the 1 of 3 DACs) I understand the job is the same, but there must be other logic involved because some DACs sound better than others. You seem to be getting at the point that they do not make a difference. And, by your methods, you are suggesting to use a digital cable from my cd player instead of using rca cables, to avoid multiple conversions...however, when I do that, it sounds like ***.
  4. I just downloaded the PS3 media server, so I'll try that out since I already have it. Using XBMC and such is another topic all together. To get back to the DAC issue. I use my Denon is Direct Mode when I listen to music, always. However, I still have the subwoofer involved when in Direct Mode and also when in Pure Direct. What is happening there then? I'm not sure your theory is really all that substancial then. If the Denon is using 2 more DACs after I already use the DAC in my Cd player, then so what...The logic must be grey and not so black and white, because there is a HUGE substancial gain in using the RCA outputs from the Cd player to bypass the DAC in the AVR...but I'm guessing that the DAC that does the work after the inputs from the Cd player, do not really alter the signal from the DAC in the Cd player...because it sounds awesome. Do you understand where I'm coming from? While technically you are correct, the converting after the fact to use bass mgmt must be a different kind of conversion than what happens inside the Cd player. My head spins...
  5. I'm so lost. So are you saying that even when using RCA outputs from my CD player, the Denon AVR is bypassing the analog inputs and making them digital, so in sense it is NOT using the DAC in the CD player? How is it that the sound from the CD player is 15 times better when I use RCA outputs, than when I use a Digital output? I would figure the DAC is still what is making the sound better, or is it something else in the CD player? BTW, XBMC looking really amazing. The thing that is so awesome with Sonos is the interface apps for smart phones. I would prefer not to listen to music in the room down the hall when the controller is the computer is that far away. Althought, I may be speaking too soon, I'm still doing research.
  6. I'm not sure I understand. How is it much different than running my CD player with RCA cables to utilize it's internal DAC. I still have LFE out of the receiver to the sub and everything works as normal. If I use an external DAC, if it's with a CD player or Sonos, I'm not sure I see the difference?
  7. Stereo, with the sub. I plan on buying an SVS SB13 Ultra...so, yea, I want to use it when I listen to music []
  8. 65,000 files is how many actual (average length) compact discs? Assuming they are lossless files.
  9. Please let me know how it works out! I am so mixed on the actual use of a DAC. Some people say it's ridiculous and it doesn't do anything, and some say the complete opposite. I just know that if I use my DVD player or PS3 via hdmi, rca, or digitalL, they all sound horrible compared to using the internal DAC on my Denon DCD 3520. So, something in the mix there makes something sound better. I know the DAC in the sonos costs about 10 dollars. Now, the one in my Denon 2808 isn't awesome by any means, but obviously better...however, it sounds like total crap when I use the Denon player with a digital cable vs the rca cables.
  10. I'm in the same situation, have been for a long time! I've been eyeing parasound 2 ch amps, but I don't think you can really go wrong with any quality amp. With all the advice, I've never seen someone go..."I bought this amp and it made my KLF's sound bad."
  11. Just wanted to add that I love my KLF 20's [Y]
  12. So my friends and I have been ripping CD's to flac files to create an ultimate library, eventually to be put on a NAS. I've been convinced to buy a Sonos player to set inline with my current setup. I'm not a fan of the current DAC in my AVR and I'm not a fan of what's inside the Sonos player. Before I do anything I wanted to get some opinions on if I should buy a 300-500 dollar outboard DAC or if I should buy a new AVR with a decent DAC in it. I ask about a AVR because I'm due for a new one and would like more connectivity.
  13. I'm not arguing, I agree. I just wanted a fancy nice power strip, that's why I bought the "power conditioner", that looks like a power strip. Even dumber is the the fact that it doesn't even have ethernet ports...they are phone jacks heheh Brown out's do cause damage to motors, as you had mentioned...like the fan circuit in my DVR that runs 24/7 basically. Anyways, I'm not arguing.
  14. I'm very aware of everything you stated. And my CONCERN, if any...is brown outs, which can be very damaging to components. So...my question is more about how a modem works. I protect the modem by conditioning it's input...BUT, the modem then has a cat6 output which goes into a router I have. Which makes more sense, to send the cat6 from the modem into the conditioner and then into the router...OR, send the cat6 from the modem output into the router and then from the router to the conditioner before it goes to...pick ONE item (CPU,PS3,DVR).
  15. I'm confused. I have the coax coming OUT of the conditioner into the modem...now are you saying to utilize the only ethernet jack on the power conditioner by plugging the cat 6 cable that comes OUT of the modem and would normally go into the router, INTO the power conditioner before sending it back to the router? So then the router would send straight cables to all my devices, CPU, DVR, etc.
  16. Did you mean to say "wouldn't"? I'm guessing you are implying the modem is already protected from spikes since the coax from the street goes into the ps first....and then running the cat6 into the ps before the router would be overkill? I guess ill run one of the cat6 lines from the router into the ps and then from the ps into either the computer or the ps3....prob the computer since I use the internet more there...and the computer costs 3 times what a ps3 does
  17. I have...probably a dumb question. I have ethernet and coax cable inputs and outputs of my PS audio power conditioner. I put the cable from the street into the conditioner, and then from there...into the modem. NOW...do I run the ethernet cable that comes from my modem and goes into my router back into the conditioner, or do I plug the ethernet cable from the modem directly into the router and then condition the output from the router that goes into the computer,dvr,ps3...etc? Or do I do all of the above? Thanks!
  18. KLF's with a cylinder sub in a relatively deadish treated room will get to extremely high db's where a lot of air is moved yet the horns remain very pleasant, at least with the crites crossovers it does.
  19. Would you suggest something for around 500 dollars used? Needless to say, I would want whatever would play nicely with the KLF's.
  20. I thought it was already implied that I had already decided to get a DAC. I originally asked what would make more sense to buy first (as will eventually buy both). You didn't really touch on the amp aspect. Would you spend 500 dollars on a 2 channel, maybe multi channel amp or 500 dollars on a DAC? I'm pretty sure you wouldn't spend it on a DAC at this point []
  21. I'll take that as another vote for an amp. However...I feel you are being a little skeptical on outboard DACs. They wouldn't be popular and be producing ones that cost such an outrageous amount of money if it was "just a chip" that made the sound different. From my own research and a few opinions here and there, I am still on route to find a decent DAC and see for myself. I think spending 500 on a DAC and 500 on a Transport would make a better player then 1000 dollar "all in one box".
  22. If that was the case...I would prefer to buy an oppo bd83 SE. This is something I still might do because the load time on the panasonic is awful! I would still eventually buy an outboard dac to use with the oppo. But my question still remains... Do I do that, or do I buy an amp? What will my ears be thanking me for more?
