Well I sure do wish I had known you back when I was in Plant City on the regular, I'd have loved to hear those speakers! I do work for the strawberry growers and used to be out there several times a year! What a small world.

As for San Diego demos you can go to pacific sales. There are a few. That was the only place I heard Klipsch when I lived out there.
Oh! And fry's!!!! They will have rf-7ii's!! The one in mission valley area?
As for receivers. I've been thinking of anthem myself lately bit myself I am looking for a used or old stock mrx-300 as it has 7.1 preouts and I already have a power amp.
I called Pacific Sales and they told me they didn't have a showroom where you could listen to speakers, just order for delivery or installation. Seemed pretty crazy.
Thanks for the Anthem endorsement, it was a brand I'd never heard of, gasp. Clearly I've been out of this for too long.
I'd still take the rf-7ii over the studio 100 for the same price. The paradigm just isn't as dynamic to my ears. The 60's are fantastic with music but they just aren't capable of the volumes I like with movies. Last time I was at independence audio they had some action movie in can't remember what one but I watched about 7 minutes of it up at a few db shy of reference then I started to notice a crackle from the center. Totally smoke checked the midrange driver.
Well one of the reasons I'm aiming more towards Paradigm Studio over Klipsch Reference is the performance at low volumes. I live in an apartment so getting to the levels I'd need to get the great dynamic range Klipsch has would also get me evicted. The Paradigm sounded just as good quiet as loud, and definitely got loud enough for me!
Obviously I'm a HUGE Klipsch fan but my experience has been that Klipsch really shows off when loud, but when quiet or at medium levels, it simply doesn't shine. We had an RF-7 system when I was in high school but I don't think I ever played that lower than LOUD and my Klipsch Heresys definitely sound best with a good bit of air flow.
I've gone to two Fry's here in the San Diego area and neither carried Klipsch Reference. They had Martin Logan and Polk and I think some Synergy but other than that, nothing. Also, let's discuss how crappy Fry's is here. In Houston I remember them being pretty awesome, here, half the speakers aren't plugged in and the iPad audio system they use is disconnected from the network, end result, works not at all.
Acoustic Sound Design sounds interesting! I see they have B-Stock for $2,300; that definitely intrigues me.

I got the makings for homemade Chicken Carbonara, from fresh made pasta to local bacon; it was a delicious affair (for one).
I ALMOST picked up a pair of Paradigm Studio 60 speakers and proper receiver (Anthem MRS 510 or Yamaha RX-A1030) but traffic was horrible and I missed the dealing. So carbonara, and a bottle of wine, will have to do! Until Friday when I get another chance!

OH man I definitely thought about the Palladium Bookshelf 17-B! They look beautiful and what I've read is pretty awesome. Sadly I haven't seen any near the price of the Paradigms, new they are 2x the price. Oh how I'd love to have something so fancy, sexy and apparently amazing sounding.

A local high end audio dealer, we need more here in San Diego, offered me $500 off a pair of Paradigm Studio 60s which has me really tempted! I LOVED the sound I heard from them when I tested them out last week.
I'm not totally sold on this setup but it's where I'm leaning now. Wish there was a Klipsch speaker in that price bracket of $2,000/pair. Something in between Reference RF7-II and Klipsch RF82.
The only reason I'm not leaning towards more Heresys is because I want a new sound, and the other Heritage is pretty large. My other concern with Heritage is from my experience, low volumes did not provide the dynamic range we all crave. I had to turn them up a good bit before it sounded the way I wanted, and at that point it sounded phenomenal but could be annoying to my upstairs neighbors.
One way or another I'm now debating receivers, Anthem MRX 510 vs Yamaha RX-A1030 vs Pioneer SC-1223.

Debating on receivers right now. These will either go with Paradigm Studio 60 or Klipsch RF7-II speakers in a 2.0 setup that will eventually be built out to 5.1.
Each has many of the same features as far as power, technology, etc. Differences between them doesn't seem to be dramatic on the surface for my uses, it seems to come down to specialized tech like the room measurement tools, quality of DACs and power quality.
If you had to choose between these three what do you think you'd do?
- Anthem MRS 510 - $1,600
- Yamaha RX-A1030 - $1,000
- Pioneer SC-1223 - $1,100 on sale for $550 on Amazon today
I have never owned any new receivers, just classic tube amps or my HK430 so this is a big jump for me! I have been told that the power and DACs in the Anthem are head over heels better than much of the competition and that the RX line from Yamaha pushes the envelope for "affordable" receivers. The Pioneer I've never really heard about except that I saw it was on sale today haha.
If I go with the Paradigm Studio 60s (which I was pretty amazed at during an extended listening session) I can get the pair for $2,000 direct from Paradigm via a local dealer, that's savings of $500.
If I go with the Klipsch RF7-II (which I have never had the chance to listen to, no Klipsch showrooms in San Diego?!) I'd pay the full $3,200 which is really more than I'd want to spend.

So I might be moving. Came home to this wonderful scene. It's not often you can see my bathroom and office at the same time...
This makes three homes I've had that ended up having major mold issues within the first month of living there. Boy do I know how to pick them?!
While that was happening I was on a search for Klipsch dealers here in San Diego. Basically there aren't any that have showrooms. I was blown away. Back in Texas they were a dime a dozen, here your only option is really Best Buy but that's limited to Synergy.
And that's not just Klipsch that is without a showroom, very few brands are represented out here. Focal, Paradigm, B&W and MartinLogan are available across three different shops but that's it. Sad.
I did try out the Paradigm Monitor 11 speakers today and was blown away at the sound for $1,600 a pair. Anyone put these up against the closest Klipsch counterpart, RF-82 II? I'd love to do this but it appears I'd have to buy the Klipsch and Paradigm then do the test. Lame.
Meanwhile, here is my sad setup at this point. Relatively sad I suppose.
Though of course it seems everyone is in agreement that another pair of Heresy or perhaps the Fortes would be a smarter choice than buying new. But gosh, did those Paradigm 11s sound fantastic, even without a sub.

HeadRoom and FiiO are both options I've used in the past with good and affordable results. I'd also check out the Maverick Audio amps, they look pretty solid, though I haven't had personal experience with them, yet.

You can find ProMedia 2.1 subs on eBay pretty reliably, if memory serves. They sound amazing by the way!

San Diego and nearby communities are a hot bed for secondary market klipsch items... just wait it out and you will see something pop up on craigslist or recycler soon.
Sound advice.
I've setup an alert on Craigslist to monitor Klipsch. Might have to get a little smarter and filter out all the headphone and ProMedia listings haha.

Quite familiar with all the drugs you listed as Texas Children's (which, I'd guess, you are overly familiar with) tried them all on my daughter.

Oh well yes I am from Texas, born in Austin, raised in Bellville and Houston, it's just confusing because after that I moved to Missouri, my parents lost just about everything c/o Enron and the energy corridor crashing in Houston. They ended up in Tulsa. Now they live in Saudi Arabia, meanwhile I've moved around between the east coast and finally settled on California, previously wine country/San Francisco, now San Diego.

I went to a home theater store out here in San Diego and listened to some Bowers and Wiklins 683s and Martin Logan Motion 20s, both total around $1,500 a pair which is about what I want to spend. The Klipsch RF82-II are $1,200 pair which means I could add on a sub. I have actually never heard any of the new Reference as fewer and fewer places seem to carry Klipsch; at least at the big box places.Does anyone have experience with the RF-82 II vs the B&W 683 or Martin Logan Motion 20s?
I remembered that you were in high school when I saw your name. Geeze, it has been 12 years on this forum. Glad to hear that your illness in under control.
If you are looking at 683's, I have a pair of B&W DM3000's that I restored. I recapped the crossovers, new fabric on the grills and some linseed oil and bottoms. They were about $2500 to $3000 in the 1980's and are insanely good, especially in the midrange. I went to hear them to check them out because everyone kept bashing B&Ws on here. I had no intention of buying and bought them on the spot after hearing them. I think that I have about $700 in them and will let them go for that. They will outperform the 683s. I am close by if you are interested. I wanted to keep these for a second system but then I stumbled upon a pair of Klipsch P37's.
I attached a pic of them from several years back.
FWIW, a pair of Fortes or Quartets are small enough heritage that should also work well for you.
Thanks for all the advice! Somehow the Fortes and Quartets never even came to mind with all of this talk. How much harder are the B&Ws to power than the Klipsch? The sensitivity difference seems to be pretty dramatic.
Meanwhile, good thing I didn't get any new speakers just yet! My apartment is currently flooding with hot water. One of the hot water pipes below/in the foundation has burst and my bathroom and back office are currently under about 1/4-1/2" of water. It's slowly creeping forward to my living room so my relaxing Saturday has become an exercise routine.
Never a dull moment!

I'm dealing with this at my work. We have a forum for our 14,000 advisors but our topics were so granular that no one really ended up using the forum. 125 topics! I've taken it down to around 90 but would love to see it at even half that.

Living in cities like San Francisco, where I will ultimately return if not NYC, speakers as big as La Scalas just won't work. At this point the Heresys are really as wide of a speaker as I can do, just like San Francisco and New York City build up not out, I have to do the same with my speakers, which is why I'm thinking more along the lines of the RF-82 II. If I was still living in Texas or Missouri, I'd be saving up for Khorns haha. Sadly the Heritage line is just a little too big for life in the big city.
Here in San Diego I could probably make La Scalas work, maybe, but they are hilariously too large for most apartments in big cities.

You guys don't forget much! It was actually my illness that brought me here back in the day. I didn't talk about it much then but back then I was in junior high/high school and suffering from daily seizures. I was so drugged up on Depakote, Klonopin, Tegretol, Keppra, Gabitril and Topamax that I couldn't go to school on any regular basis. My family moved from a small town called Bellville to Houston so I could be closer to hospitals. It was a rough period. Not able to go to school, and not having many friends (sick kids don't make many friends) this bulletin board was my life. It is why I am still one of the top posters after all these years haha. All I had was you guys. Thanks for that.
Interestingly, my pediatric neurologist from way back then is no longer allowed to practice medicine. Look up Dr. Ruth Atlas for some fun reading. I'm lucky to be alive. By the way, my car accident as not connected to my epilepsy.
In college I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. It's a pulmonary disease that really blow. I was a walking case of pneumonia and bronchitis all through college. Unable to get health insurance, due to having two pre-existing conditions, I was never able to get the medication I so badly needed. Total was around $1,200/m for medicine.
Alas, I moved to California, got health insurance and my last bought of pneumonia was 2010 and my last seizure was 2009! So all things considered, I'm healthy as an ox!
All that aside, seems like the general consensus is stick with the Klipsch iFi (which is even better than a ProMedia 2.1!) until I know better how long I'll be here. That said, is it crazy for me to want to move from Heritage to Reference? I love my Heresy speakers but the look and feel (and footprint) of the Reference line really pull at my heartstrings.

If I recall correctly, you're from the Show Me State and the "tx" stands for something other than Texas.
Actually it is a little bit of both. I am originally from Texas and I joined the Klipsch bulletin boards when I lived there and was 16 years old. Back then I lived in a small town called Bellville before moving to Houston where I graduated from high school. I went to school at the University of Missouri at Columbia, hence the Show-Me State! After college I moved to San Francisco where I lived for a few years before moving down here to San Diego.

I am! Not as much as I used to, my day job gets in a way a bit. My last year in college I won a handful of awards and even got a touring gallery show. My first gallery show almost sold out on the first night. Not sure why I didn't continue that route in life but I suppose there's still plenty of time. I even taught photography a bit at my alma mater.

Howdy! It's been ages since I was active on here but I'm back with a question.
I moved from San Francisco to San Diego for fantastic job opportunity that was supposed to last just six months. Since I had such a short time here I didn't move anything beyond the bare necessities... 12 cases of wine, my headphones, laptop, clothes and a Klipsch iFi speaker system (what a gem that thing is).
Now the company I work for is asking me to stay for 18 more months, or if they get their way, indefinitely. I'm still not sold on living in San Diego for the rest of my twenties (denying the fact I only have 9 months left in that period of life) but it does look like I'll be here for a bit longer.
So, what do I do? The Heresys are still in use in San Francisco so taking them isn't exactly an option, and who doesn't love an excuse to purchase new speakers!? I just got a new place here and just purchased a 55" 3D HDTV. With that is my Klipsch iFi system and while it does sound pretty fantastic, I feel like I'm not quite doing the room justice.
I've been playing around with a pair of RF-82 speakers or a maybe RF-52 plus a sub. There's a decent chance that if I'm here for an extended period of time that I'll fill out the system into a 5.1 but there are a lot of ifs.
I'm open to ideas! I haven't mounted the Klipsch iFi yet, can't make my mind up if I should get some nice floor standing speakers or stick with the iFi as a stop gap until I move back to San Francisco. Thoughts? Open to just about anything. How's the used Klipsch market these days? Ever since I got my Heresys I've been pretty content to never buy another speaker again haha.

I don't quite follow. The Quintet center is smaller than the G-17. I don't see how replacing it with a larger speaker would solve your problem. Also, I wouldn't recommend this. You're mixing totally different styles of speakers with each other; categorically different. In a pinch it might work but as a best practice, not advised here.
A picture of your predicament might be helpful in getting some ideas. The Quintet center is pretty small, I imagine with a little creativity you could find a wonderfully happy home beneath the edge of the television.

I vouch for Monoprice.com as well. They are my go-to source for all things cables these days. And like tigerwoodKhorns, experience with Home Depot cables is hit or miss. I ended up replacing it all after mine turned green within a year or two. Next round was also Home Depot and was perfect (to this day).
Go with Monoprice and know you're getting great cables at a fantastic price. Also, while you're there, buy everything else

Called Klipsch. Great guy in the customer service/parts area. Says that he's been using paper clips for seven years, and they work fine... ... I guess that's that. Better safe than puffs of smoke :-)
Just goes to show what PWK used to say about speaker cables. Lamp cords work just as good as $125 specialty cables and paperclips aren't bad in a pinch! I might have used some liberty on that quote
