  1. I think you've got it. Do you not have cable TV from a provider? Mine is Time/Warner & it comes in through a receiver box, then a RF cable goes from the box to the TV. I was just wondering if the HDMI from the AVR to HDTV was only one way (AVR to HDTV) or if it would also carry the audio from the TV back to the AVR to play through the surround system. If not, the HDTV has an optical out that I'd run to an optical in of the AVR. I suspect that would be better than running an HDMI back to the AVR just for the audion. Frank W.
  2. Youthman, I was thinking about the audio from the digital cable that goes directly to the HDTV via RF jack, going back into the AVR. Does that make sense? Frank W.
  3. Absolutely! I just want to know what I need to get me going. Frank W.
  4. I found soundstage increased geometrically when I switched from SS to Tubes. Frank W.
  5. OK, so I think (so does SWMBO) I've been a good enough boy this year to get me a new HT system! Yea! There will be a HDTV, Blu-ray player, AVR & probably 5.1 surround. What cables will I need to make it all work? (Aside from speaker wires.) The HDTV will get the digital cable right from the box, but how about the AVR & Blu-ray? Do I just run HDMI from Blu-ray to AVR & then HDMI again to HDTV? Is HDMI a 2-way connection to & from the HDTV to the AVR? What about all the digital audio ins & outs? Does HDMI supercede them? Also, any tricks to hide the cables to/from the wall-mounted HDTV besides tearing up the wall & putting cables inside? TIA, Frank W.
  6. Congrats! I love mine! So, what are you driving th em with? Frank W.
  7. I got a mint Rega Planet with remote, box, manual, etc., for $250 on Audiogon. Don't know if that's cheap to you. I wasn't looking for cheap, just inexpensive. ;-) Couldn't be happier through tubes & Forte IIs. Frank W.
  8. I love my Forte IIs driven by tubes. I started with a vintage Marantz integrated (1152DC) & thought the sound was terrific, but as soon as I set up my Dynaco ST-70 & PAS-3 I was hooked. I recently pulled the PAS-3 out for servicing & am using the 1152DC as a preamp, and while it does have that very smooth, classic (SS) vintage sound, I miss the PAS-3. (As others have mentioned, its nice to have some backup gear with vintage!) For sources I have: - Thorens TD-160 with Goldring ELEKTRA Cart - Rega Planet CDP - Marantz 2100 Tuner - 3rd Gen iPod Nano - Music Server / TiG4 800MHz Powerbook / iTunes + MAX / ALAC Files / (2) 80G External FW HDs / Keces DA-151 Not the highest end components but they match up well & sound SUPER! Good luck, Frank W.
  9. If I didn't have my Rega Planet I'd be all over this one. Frank W.
  10. ST-70 + PAS-3 + Forte IIs = Sonic Bliss! The Dynaco stuff is original. Forte IIs have Crites titanium diaphrams. Source components: Rega Planet, Thorens TD 160 (AR-XA awaiting possible mods) & a Marantz 2100 tuner. Oh yeah, I run ALAC files through an old Powerbook (iTunes) & a KECES DA-151 DAC, too. I've used my Marantz 1152DC as a preamp with good results as well. Frank
  11. No problem. I hope it works out. Let us know either way. I still would like to find someone to do some work in the area. I reallydon't like the idea of shipping my stereo gear around. Take care, Frank W.
  12. Just one man's experience: His reputation is very good on AudioKarma. I contacted him about doing a "re-cap" on a '70s Marantz integrated amp & was told I was about 4th in line for repair. After awhile (2-3 months maybe) I contacted him again to see if we were closer to a date & he seemed a bit miffed I emailed. Seriously, I was very nice about it, never suggesting anything negative, simply seeing how things were going. A long chunk of time later I send another really nice, very carefully worded email to find out if I was getting closer to having the work done. No reply. In the meantime I bought a ST-70 & PAS-3 from one of this forum's members (thanks again Scott!) & back-burnered the Marantz. I will probably re-cap it myself. Anyway, I hope you can actually get Warren as he does have an excellent reputation. I wish he had done mine as I'm certain he would do a better job than me. Good luck, Frank W.
  13. I think that's the Golden Ratio or some such thing. I see you have wood floors & a turntable up top. Any problems with that setup? (per thebes) Frank
  14. Pete, Yeah, that's what I'm looking for. I was searching around & found something called a "flexi rack" or such. Looks pretty straight-forward. Thanks, Frank
  15. Hi All, Well, I'm finally getting my system together & am in need of a rack to put it all on. Right now its set up on an old TV cart. Anyway, does anyone know where I might find some plans/instructions for a DIY Audio Rack? Pictures & descriptions would be very cool, too! Here's what I'll be putting on the rack: - Titanium 800 GHz Powerbook (on iCurve if possible) - (2) Portable Hard Drives for file storage - Portable CD/DVD Burner - Turntable (TBD) - Marantz 1152DC Integrated Amp - Marantz 2100 Tuner - Keces DA-151 DAC - CDP (Future Addition) - Accessories - Maybe Selected CDs & LPs Right now my listening room has pretty solid floors (no bounce) under carpet. Spikes perhaps? So, what am I forgetting? Frank
