  1. I should say - VERY important you remove the connecting clips between binding posts before bi-amping. The picture above refers to it as 'Bridges Removed'. If your AVR receiver has preouts, you can connect them to a power amp for powering the woofers. Then the AVR can do the tweeters. There are many power amps to choose from. I'm using a Sunfire Cinema Grand (200 watts per channel).
  2. Welcome to the Forum! I can't answer your first woofer question, but here is a good bi-amp visual.
  3. Welcome to the Forum Bill. Lots of great info on these threads. Stick around! Craig at NOS Valves services tube amps. He's in Hale, MI, so it would involve shipping your Scott unit to him for the work. Email him with your questions. He's a very good guy. I hope this helps.
  4. Totally makes sense and never crossed my mind.
  5. Hell yes! I've watched that scene so many times. VERY good movie. One instance where the Coen Bros put you in the scene is when Josh Brolin is beng chased by that pickup truck in the first 1/2 hour or so. Most directors would flip back and forth between Brolin and the driver/passengers. By keeping the focus on Brolin, we have no idea who his pursuers are, and our imaginations take it from there. I really liked The Hurt Locker. Not many modern war movies are more suspense than action, like that one. Had no idea what it was about until watching, and I think that helped its impact on me. And whoever mentioned Blade Runner and Contact earlier, spot on.
  6. So where did this name come from? Paul must have gone to Mitchell, SD to see the sights and BAM, inspiration.
  7. I gotta contribute. Her albums are very good and musical - excellent voice. There are a couple of these odd ones on each album.
  8. Switching back to Klipsch......excellent. Welcome back! It's important that your mains and center channel are timbre/voice matched. Getting RF35s would be a perfect match for your RC35.
  9. Did you alter your Fortes to allow Bi-amping?
  10. Pete you seem to be going in a sub direction. But I have to say I'm very pleased with my Sinfire Cinema Grand. It's an older unit but sonically and cosmetically in great shape. Paid $700 shipped two years ago. I'd like to compare other power amps with the Sunfire I have, just don't have the funds!
  11. Unless LFE signals deteriorate faster with long runs, I wouldn't mess with balanced. Here is decent sub cable from Monoprice. Don't want to tell you stuff you already know, but add this splitter and you're good to go with the sub. They do have XLR to RCA cords that will get you closer to using balanced ins. I don't see any splitters though. Hope this helps. Just call me Joe Monoprice.
  12. The wife may want bookshelves, but add stands to them and you're into floorstanding anyway. Don't know if these are close enough for your friend. Good deal on 3.5s. They're 7 inches shorter than KLF 20s, 1 1/2 " thinner, and 5 1/2" less deep. They put out very good bass given their size. I dunno, a mid 90's pair might be too old for what he wants......?
  13. Welcom newkman! KG 4.2s are a great speaker - excellent for rock. The KG line got me into this madness, so brace yourself! I like your avatar.....Robin gettin' knocked silly.
  14. Finally had the chance to do the mod and listen. Modded one speaker, then compared each. It brought down the squawker and tweeter output, closer to the woofer output. It made it sound like there was more low end which my ears liked right away. Did the other speaker and listened the rest of the afternoon. Thanks so much for the help everyone. Following DeanG's advice, now onto ordering new capacitors. I'll use one of these, as suggested by John Albright in an earlier thread: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?PartNumber=027-214 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=027-534 http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=027-724 I know people here have said to not spend a lot on caps, but I still lean toward the ones for $16.47 each. I have a bad case of 'what if' in buying cheaper.
  15. I did think of that in the planning stages, but couldn't figure out how to wire all of them to one Frankenstein switch. They all are indiviual closed circuits with their own power and switch. Same with using one power source - thought is was a good idea, but my mind kind of spun around and blanked out (happening more often).
  16. LOL - I know what you mean. I wanted it to be battery powered and portable. I may change the few flashlight bulbs in there to all LED. Makes a BIG difference. Another thing I didn't think of, which is obvious really, is that he walks away with some on. If I don't catch it, it's wasted battery. Heh, I guess the whole thing is really 'fluff' battery use. Rechargables......here we go!
  17. Here's the busy underside. Like I said, a novice's playground. There is a plywood bottom with soft domed feet to keep it from moving. Can't post video files here, so email me if you'd like to see a 'video tour'! []
  18. My parents said I loved switches and buttons when I was little. I guess I still do! My Dad mentioned one time how he almost made some kind of switchboard for me. My son is 2 1/2 and is always playing around with the lights and anything else. So I took a few trips to Radio Shack and put together this switchboard. Ended up being more expensive and time consuming than anticipated, but fun too. Building the box was simple, however I'm not knowledgable with electronics and with that it was a hit and miss creation (burnt out more than a few LEDs).
  19. Emotiva's UPA amps are within your price range. Have you looked into those? wuzzzer can tell you how well his setup improved with a UPA-2.
  20. I've seen Behringer EP2000's powering KLF-30s in one forum member's system. Info
