  1. RossVTaylor, Thanks for the info. You hit on question exactly. In your reply you touched on "5/7 channel stereo".How is that set up in the Denon product.Does it include processing and what is your opinion of the sound you get for music? Thanks, Keith
  2. Thanks for the info BobG.Lets say I connect my front speaker pair to the "A" speaker posts of my reciever and my rear speaker pair to the "B" speaker posts of my reciever.I then flip speaker selector switch on front panel to "A+B" and use direct mode and get an unprocessed stereo signal to the four corners of my room.To my ears this sound is superior to any processed mode available to me even though my reciever is adjustable nine ways to heck. This could also be accomplished by using left and right preouts on reciever to a line level amplifier to several power amplifers (preferably Acurus) to multiple speaker pairs. You could possibly have a room full of Klipsch speakers powered by several Acurus amplifiers running a direct stereo signal. As my brother-in-law said over the week-end,"how many speakers do you want. This sounds better than Joe-Bobs Definitive set-up".If set up correctly,I could then flip the A+B switch on reciever to A to power the front speaker pair only and go to the surround processing for HT.Anyway, that is what I have and was trying to duplicate with a new DD reciever. The set-up,in practice, was much easier that the explanation here.Hope everyone understands the goal and contributes. Thanks, Keith
  3. Here is what I have and here is what I'm working toward.I am primarily interested in music with some HT interest.KSP300's in front and rear corners,C7 center,SW12II sub,and S6 surrounds.I have SonyES reciever used as preamp for Acurus power.I listen to music in direct mode with no processing.I will soon upgrade? reciever to Denon 3801.I want to know this- will this reciever,in 5 or 7 channel stereo mode, run the 4 300's,the C7, and the S6's in a "direct" fashion with no processing? My present reciever cuts off the center in direct mode, which is not terribly important, but the option would be nice. Basically I want to run all the speakers in direct mode for music and simply switch to surround for HT.Any input is appreciated. Keith Keith
  4. bobster, well I did hear from Trey and he said the mahogany stain is a special mix for Klipsch and is unavailable to ship to the public(got a tomato can bobster?).Anyway, after listening to these speakers for about a week I don't care what color they are.I really would like to touch these speakers up(need the stain) and can probably(they'll look like crap)find something close locally. And is that the 30 sheen lacquer coat on top of the stain that,I believe it was Amy,spoke of? There for a while I thought I had called Ace Hardware everyone was so helpful. And who was that blasting Tech Support a while back? Anyway, as I told Trey, these are they. The speakers I have been looking for.Got 5 of em wired up with KG5.5's,C7,S6's,SW12II with the Acurus juice pumping thru their veins.Even my wife loves them. She just wants them touched up.HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPP. Keith
  5. Scott, Evidently jerohm is right.Got an e-mail today from Trey @ Klipsch in regards to my question about refinishing some mahogany KSP300's.His reply was " you can refinish the cabinets black, but you will have to give them a bath with acetone after sanding if you want the paint to stick ".Hope this helps. Thanks for the post jerohm. You too Trey. Keith
  6. Oh yea Scott, Thats Lilly Industries,I assume, which recently merged or was bought by Valspar.Don't know if it is oil or water based stain.I'm going to find out though.I hope. Will post. Keith
  7. Recently purchased KSP300's in both Mahogany and Black Satin.I have talked to tech support about info regarding finish's of these speakers (demo's with scratches).Tried without success to talk to Trey, or anyone else that could help.Anyway, here is all that I have: Black Satin-Lilly stain w/30 sheen lacquer finish.Mahogany:wiping stain.Any info you could furnish is appreciated.I would like to get them looking like they sound. Thanks, Keith
  8. HEY TOM, I resemble that remark! That's what I liked about the Acurus, other than,of course, its a fine powerful amp.Just one big on switch and nothing else to distract from the listening pleasure.Need another one - right now.
  9. Scott, I got the following information from Klipsch tech support in the last few days regarding stain color for KSP300's.May not be the same for your KG4's, but here it is: "Lilly stain w/30 sheen lacquer coat". If I find anything else on the stain I'll let you know.
  10. Bought a truck load of KSP300's for a song. I'm wondering if line level signal offers inproved sound over the speaker level. And if so, in what way?Owners manual speaks of BI-AMPING these speakers.I understand the concept, but why BI-AMP a speaker with a powered sub-section.Maybe I'm missing something.
  11. Congrats Mr.Blorry, I know you'll like the C7 when you get it.Talking about deals, what do you guys think about this: talked to fellow at HiFi Buys in Atlanta about some Klipsch Premiere KSP300's.He had 2 black satin,or so he thought.Asked him to lay hands on them before I drove 130 miles to listen to em.Oh yea,I already know we have them he said.Got there he did'nt have 2 black. He did have 4 mahogany floor jobs with a few scratches and dings and one like black.Listened about 2 hrs. with personal reference CD's and decided to deal.BTW,used Yamaha rec. to aud.-I have a Sony. The 30's seemed to lack just a bit of the bright edge of the Legends. The bass,in open room, was aplenty.Final personal pref.setting about 1/3.Here's how it went down:1 Mahogany in box,3 floor models in Mahogany and 1 black satin floor model.Paid $248 each for 4 Mahoganys and they threw in the black for FREE.Authorized dealer/5 year warranty. What do y'all think? KRAZYKEITH
  12. Mr. Blorry, Not having any luck with the dealer thing myself, I did the next best thing.Combed the net looking for reputable source for the C7.I ordered mine from Sound Ditributors in Las Vegas.I called them on 01/15/01.At that time he had mahogany.I waited about 3 weeks on black. His price:$395 plus $22 groung UPS to Alabama.Haven't had time for other than a quick listen but I can tell you that it puts out VOLUMES of sound. Hurry!
  13. UPDATE TO MY OWN WARNING: FEDEX IS OFFERING STIFF COMPETITION TO UPS. RECEIVED SUB FROM FEDEX THAT APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN THROWN FROM BACK OF TRUCK MOVING AT 55 MPH.MAKES LOCAL KLIPSCH DEALER AWFULLY ATTRACTIVE! SEE DISCLAIMER ABOVE!
  14. Flason, Thanks for the honest answer AND the work.I've got KG5.5's I've had for years and would'nt take anything for em.Planning now, after years of hibernation, to maybe buy KLF20's for fronts & moving 5.5's to rear. Have recently bought C7 center and S6 surrounds ( been reading about problems with the Legends )I've got a Sony ES prologic receiver that I've had for 6 years or more and still use basically as a pre amp along with separate amps.I've used this set-up as 5 channel stereo for music and some HT by way of switch box to send full range signal to rears for music and switch to prologic for HT.Years ago came up with the rear full range idea because in a large room just seemed to need more output or volume of sound and the rears seemed to fill out the sound. So here now comes 5 and 7 channel stereo.I'm upgrading? now and was wondering about the sonic match of the two speakers in question. Your response has helped and I thank you. Keith
  15. Flason, BTW, I have KG5.5's and am about to buy some more of the old stuff.Wondering if you have tried comparing your KG's and 30's, say for fronts or in stereo, looking for differences in sound? What did you find? Thanks, Keith
  16. Go listen to the new stuff, and if you are like me you will turn around and buy some of the old stuff.Klipsch holds value better than most, from what I've seen.
  17. Tman, I know you want it now, but I have a KV that I will probably sell if UPS ever gets my C7 delivered.I bought it new in 95 and it is black satin.Sat it on top of 53" Sony and has been there since.Great condition and good sound.I'll post here when the c7 arrives. BTW, the KV2 has the rear adjustment post that allows vertical adjustment to "aim" speaker.Given the choice, get the KV2.
  18. I don't want to sound like an a&s kisser, but the administrator hit the nail on the head.I too have purchased items from "unauthorized dealers" in the past because of price and local unavailability. But I think that price aside, any of you really understands that Klipsch has to have dealers to market their product.I too am happy when I purchase an item over the internet and get a good product at a savings. When I get a bad item that is defective I have to hope that the etailer hundreds of miles away will stand behind his sale.I am tired of typing now and will cut to the chase:The other day Dell sent me some software to download to my computer.I had trouble with the software and it also corrupted other programs.A few days later Dell called with a survey and I lamblasted him about the crappy software. He asked me how I liked my computer.I told him every time I used my computer and ran in to new problems I would sit here pizzed off and my eyes would wander down to the Dell logo.I of course associated the sortware problem with my Dell. Well I do like the computer but I am still peeved about the software. The analogy being Klipsch,I am sure, spends lots of time and money cleaning up behind others. They would like for you to be happy with their product and if not you can take it back to your local dealer who will make it right.I intend to do more business with e-tailers but I will check and buy from local dealers if they will be somewhat competitive.By the way, went to a local dealer today (I was not aware they were a Klipsch dealer) and auditioned the Reference line. They had KLF20's for $999 a pair.It was the hardest thing I have done to leave without a pair of them.I can go back tommorrow ,though.Lets give the local dealers a chance, for our own good.(the Reference was brighter IMO than the Legends-played thru Sony ES & Denon 3801-the Denon was quiter too).KLIPSCH ON!
  19. Having just recently joined this bulletin board, I would like to take the time to thank all of you that contribute to it.Your past experience no doubt saves your fellow Klipscher's time, money, and frustration.I have worked 7 days a week for almost 24 years now and just recently took the month of January off, which has allowed me to "blow the dust" off of my Klipsch speakers and begin to enjoy them again.I joined this board and have throughly enjoyed it.Just wish my wife enjoyed it as well. Anyway, I have a suggestion that will no doubt save you much aggravation. Many of you already know this.DO NOT USE UPS for your shipping. They offer poor service (IMO) and seem to enjoy destroying your beloved equipment.I have years of experience using this outfit and have just now had all of I can stand.Fed-Ex offers the same great service that UPS did years ago.No I do not work for either of these companies, but I do have lots of brutal UPS experience. I pass this along to you simply because it is something of which I am certain, just as the advice which you may offer to others on this site. Thank you for listening and use this advice to your advantage. DISCLAIMER: THE ABOVE IS STRICTLY MY OPINION BASED PURELY ON MY EXPERIENCE.I COULD BE WRONG. TTK
  20. Dman, I've used a Sony ES reciever since 1994 and have never had a minutes problem with it. Just yesterday plugged up Jurassic Park laserdisc with KG5.5's,C7,S6's and SW12II. I still can't believe the sound after all these years, and Pro Logic at that.I've heard others bad mouth Sony products, but I've had good luck with the many Sony products I've owned. The only advice I can give you is to be certain that the reciever you buy will work for you for any future component you may want to use with your system. Its probably going to be around quite a while
  21. Where did yous guys get the Monster Cable in- wall 14 ga. speaker wire, and how much per foot? Is the wire stiff or easy to work with? Thanks yous guys!
  22. Amen. Drove 250 miles today to buy a pair of Klipsch speakers. When I got there that dealer had a puny stock but heck,at least he had the Legend towers lined up and ready to demo.I've never seen 30's,20,s and 10's either at once or at all at my local dealer.Be glad to get one of those Reference Stores here (hehehe).
  23. mdeneen, thats the way I see it too!Earlier this week I visited the only local dealer in my area to check out the Legend series.First off he bad mouthed Klipsch and tried to sell me Definitive. Then he offered to order and give me the substantial discount of $50 off MSRP of KLF30's.Boy do we need a GOOD Klipsch dealer in my area (BIRMINGHAM,ALABAMA ). BTW I did purchase my Klipsch speakers from an authorized dealer here several years ago. TTK
  24. I want to buy a pair of KLF30's but there are no local stocking dealers for them. There was several years ago when I bought thousands of dollars worth of electronics by phone from out of state companys. All the locals went out of business.I wonder why?
