I really like the Telefunken E88CC/6922. It was the best sounding 6DJ8 in my Airtight ATE-2 preamp. Not as dry sounding as many 6DJ8's. At that time, I only had one NOS Siemens CCa (which I sold to Gary) so I couldn't make a head to head shootout. The Valvo redprint E88CC was close second.

Has anyone not liked their Klipschorns and replaced them?

Never really like the quality of bass of my Khorns. It seemed a little lightweight and lacked definition to my ears. I think that LaScala's bass reproduction is much more fast and accurate although it doesn't go as low. -
Gary, Enjoy your new table. Nice work Allan. Guy

Repair Specialist For Marantz 10B Needed
Guy Landau replied to Gilbert's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Don't touch it if it works. They hardly ever break down and the only things that normally do, are the optocouplers and they can be bought on ebay. -
MV-50 is a nice amplifier. At least as good as any of the above. Very sensitive to the type of 6cg7 tube used as phase splitter. I don't know which type you're using but RCA Cleartop 6cg7/6fq7 will do wonders to the sound. GE 6cg7s sound very lean and dry in this amp. I'd experiment with tube rolling before even thinking of buying another amplifier.

The good thing about the Leak Stereo 20 is that it has a very high input sensitivity and doesn't really need a preamp. You can either install a potentiometer where the HT socket is and use it as a volume control or use a simple passive preamp. The bad thing is that it might be a little noisey due to this high input ensitivity. I've used one with a McCormack passive line stage with my Khorns and it sounded great. Forum member Croc, uses a Citation II with LS's and the sound is pretty impresssive. I also liked the HF-81 with my Khorns.

Allan, Can you estimate the value of this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=006&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=160085667183&rd=1&rd=1 It's from the same seller so I might try to get both. Thanks -
Travis, It was working fine the last time I used it. I only quit using it because I bought a vintage Audio-Note Io and had it rebuilt (by Vandenhul) and then moved to the US and didn't bring it with me. I don't think that it's a matter of humidity as the weather in Tel-Aviv is quite humid. A friend of mine still uses his Koetsu which is about the same age but he uses it much more often and his suspension is fine so there's no reason for you to be concerned. BTW, The cost of suspension replacement at VDH was less than 50 EURO at that time.

It should work with nude SPUs, a SME and Ortofon G type headhells and won't work with EMT or A type Ortofons.

The 135 is a great table. It has a lighter platter (without the extra aluminum platter and clutch mechanism of the 124) and a slightly smaller bearing but I really like the Thoren/emt arm and if I remember correctly, it has an autostop option.
