Pete, I don't really know the 135A woofer. I advise you to ask about the difference here: http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/index.php You're right about the S7R having a 500hz crossover with the LE-85. This combination worked but wasn't optimal. The same crossover was used with the S8R and 375 drivers for a much better result.

Pete, The correct crossover is N333 (home version - L300) or 3133 (pro version 4333). I'ts a single crosssover covering both 800hz/8500hz points. The 3115A is a 500hz crossover that you're using is meant to be used with the LE-15 woofer which is 2 db more efficient than the 136A woofer so : 1.Crossover point should be 800hz in the original L-300/4333 2.You get less output from the 136a woofer causing inbalanced sound. 3. LE-85 midrange drivers work too hard at 500 hz so they probably distort. These remarks are valid in case you do have 136A woofers. If you got LE15s, You're using the right crossovers for these drivers but they're different than the ones found in L300/4333. In any case, LE-15 woofers don't go as low as 136A's.

Pete, It seems like you're speakers don't have the correct 4333/L300 crossovers. I still own a pair of Summits and owned Khorns and think that top to bottom they are better speakers than Khorns. They don't sound as big (much smaller horn) but are more coherent and image better. Bass go lower and the 077 tweeters go so high and sound so silky and walk all over the k-77's.

I recommend a Toshiba SD-9200. It was their top of the line player in 2000-2001 and retailed for $2k. You can find the on the second hand market for around $350-450. It's a beast that weighs 35 lbs, an amazing redbook cd player and dvd player. Also, it plays dvd-audio and decodes HDCD.

I'd go with a vintage NAD 3020A. Won't cost you more than $100-150, has a great phono section and will KILL anything made today and costing up to $500-600. I have one of these in a second system and it's just plain great. Dave, Most of the value is in the S2 drivers and lens. Otoh, a complete set of drivers is quite rare these days. Dicks tophats are not original Vitavox but a home made pair and are priced accordingly. If you don't care about originality, these speakers are nice but the bass bin isn't original so no real collectors value here . Not too long ago, S2 drivers used to go for less than $1500 a pair. IMO, the pair of speakers offeres on ebay, are way to expensive and shipping from Canada won't be cheap either.

This pair seem unoriginal to me. Original Vitavox have special decor and are physicly much bigger than Khorns. Drivers and networks are original and likely someone has installed them in a regular Khorn bass bin.

This preamp has a passive line stage and suppose to have a very good phono section. Should be worth about $300.

I'm using open baffles like these http://members.myactv.net/~je2a3/open.htm with my Altec 604k's and I really like what I hear. Btw, Ben, I have a pair of 620 cabinets sitting at a friend's storage place in NJ. I'll check with him if he plans to use them or not.

Dave, Thanks for thinking of me. Anyway, I've sold my "big reds" just before I moved back to Israel. I'm using a pair of 604K's which IMO, sound a little bit better. The last pair of original "super reds" that were sold on ebay, reached over $2500. I guess that these will sell for $2-3K but shipping these would be very costly so it might affect the final price.

Great speakers. These are the "Super Reds" with the extra15 inch Utah woofer in a sealed box. I've used the smaller "Big Regs" for years and they were some of my favorite speakers.

You're probably right, they'll work from 500 hz. 511E horn will take 1.4" drivers.

802-8G won't work from 500 hz. It's better to go with a N-800 crossover if you wish to use these. Or go with 288 drivers with a 500 hz crossover.

typical Audioweb fraud. Don't go anywhere near these.

There are good and there are bad record clamps. The bad ones often add resonace that is picked up by the cartridge. I have bad experience with the Michell clamp. It does the job of holding the record down but you lose focus on the music. I really like the cheap, Audio Technica clamo and the Micro Seiki clamp.
