  1. My KSW 200 turns on and has *some* sound coming out, but very very little even when making adjustments to the knobs.

I don't know if I should repair (if that's even possible), or replace.  I am not the soldering type, so it would need to be a true "plug and play" repair situation for DYI.

OR, do I just look for a nice used one on the forums or craigslist, and what would be a suitable alternative?

This would be paired in my HT with my Chorus II's and Quartet center.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

  2. Hi All -

I've got the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX that's at least 10 years old - the speakers are working fine, but no more bass.  I've tried wiggling everything, but no dice.  I might just forget the sub and work it until the entire thing dies, but wanted to see if anyone on here has any ideas.  I could replace the sub (there is another promedia set on craigslist for $75) or get something new...

    Thanks!

  3. Selling a few things before an upcoming move.  I have them listed locally on Craigslist as well if you want the descriptions and pictures.  Considering all reasonable offers.

  4. I thought anything less than $600 was great (and in my budget).  Forte and Forte II's are selling around here for $500-$550 or more.  Obviously every once in awhile some will pop up for less when someone finds them at an estate or garage sale.

The seller actually sold them earlier in the day on eBay with a "Buy it Now" for more ($650 I think he said), but the buyer was in Florida and backed out when he found out the shipping cost. He said he had a lot of emails since he listed them in the last day or so, and I believe it.

A quick search of completed eBay auctions show $709-$1080 (36 bids on the $1080 pair).

Any suggestions on how to repair the areas?  Just some kind of glue?

I saw this place does repairs but know nothing about them...  http://www.simplyspeakers.com/klipsch-speaker-repair.html

  5. Thanks for the "encouragement".  I went to take a look and listen today and ended up coming home with them for his asking price of $575.  He was the 2nd owner and had the original boxes.

The 2 passive radiators have some slight damage though.  One has the dust cover dented in and a small "scratch" on the cone- but it doesn't look like it breaks through.  The other one has three small holes in a row on the cone - in the cone - in a row maybe each the size of a bic pen tip.  Almost looked to me like one if his cats  poked it with it's claws.

Any ideas on a simple repair, or do I have to replace the entire thing?  Is that even possible?

  6. Have a pair of KG 5.2's aleady, but came across a local pair of Chorus II's when seeing what was out there. Was actually considering some Forte's when I saw these Chorus II's.

Asking price is slightly south of $600 on the Chorus II's and I'm intrigued if they are really any "better" than the KG 5.2's. Neither my 5.2's nor the Chorus II's have been Crites upgraded.

I have the 5/2's in my home theater in the basement, and I would replace them with the Chorus II's.

Looking for any opinions either way.

    Thanks,

    Joel

PS:  I has posted this on another forum (AK) and Moray James has already replied (thanks Moray!)

  7. Thank you to all of you for your time and explanations! You have changed my course of action to not take any right now. I doubt the seller would take 1/2-2/3 of his asking price, and I agree that around $400 is a better price - especially after considering I might want to upgrade them ala Bob C.

I think the best path might be to look for an academy or a replacement center.

    Let the hunt begin!

  8. Hi Gang -

After years of 'lurking' these forums, I have to make a post looking for advice.

It all started when a local seller listed a pair of Forte (I) on craigslist for $600. At first that seemed like a great price, but it appears after some research that may be a bit high - seems like the more commonly sell for closer to $400...any opinions?

Second question...are they too big for my space? My room is 10.5ft wide by ~13ft deep to the desired listening location, so it's not a huge space. I currently have KG 5.2's, KSW200, 2 KG 1.5's (rear), and the KV-2 center.

I have read a lot about the Forte's, and I don't know if they are A) a good buy @ that price, and B) good for my set-up.

Thanks in advance for the opinions!

    Joel
