  1. I can compare the Beyma 385 to the Crites tweeter and a Beyma CP-25. I use my 385's with DDS 100 horns. They are super smooth and stand far apart from the other 2 mentioned tweeters. I remember adjusting my crossovers to turn up the highs because I had never heard them like that before. VERY impressive
  2. they look like Crites tweeters? Try dropping them down on your crossover autoformer 1 or 2 spots. What # are they at now ?
  3. Thanks John for that info and pics. I'm looking towards a larger cab (+6cu ft) with slightly lower response. I built the Cornwall I have and would consider building another possibly a few inches taller to accomodate the 2 woofers. Looking for feedback on 12 vs 15 woofers on the double bass bin and what to expect COMPARED to a Cornwall bass.
  4. Wanted to ask for opinions on the bass differences between a Cornwall with Crites woofer and a Khorn. Also any of those members who have done a double bass bin since I do not have the "corners" for a Khorn unless I built the corners. Is the difference between a Khorn and a Cornwall bass wise subtle or drastic. I already have Greg Roberts wooden Trac horn and Community M-200 for mids and a Beyma 385 for highs so I have pretty much the upgrade that is going around the country via Greg, just want personal opinions on the bass. Anyone with Jubs/ Jamborees would like those as well. ALL comparisons and opinions welcome as I am looking towards a new project. Thanks
  5. Greg since I'm using your horn on a ported cabinet and not a K-horn does this lowering of the cross to 300 benefit me as well. I'm actually at 500hz now so maybe not getting all the true benefits of the Fc260. I don't believe my set up quite compared with yours because I ended up using Community M-200's because I got such a good deal on them. I do feel my high end is more impressive with Beyma 385's and DDS horns, but the sound of the BMS with ALK cross very impressive ! I'm changing out my caps in the Crites crosses to Jupiter caps. That's my final move without changing out my mid drivers which will more than likely happen down the road. It sounds great BTW in case anyone is interested ! I just bought and waiting for delivery on a Don Allen preamp to compare with my VTL, so more changes and expectations down the road as usual. Greg let me know your take on the crossovers. Thanks, Rich
  6. Having listened to Greg's V-tracs and to everyone here for quite some time here's my 2 cents: I went from plastic to wood to Greg's V-trac in 6 months. I went from K-55 and 400 horn with Crites tweeter and crossovers to a wooden Tractrix horn with Atlas PD-5VH 1" driver, then to demo Greg's V-Trac. The difference for me was amazing and I immediately ordered the 2" horn (Fc260) from Greg, but like most can't afford the whole set-up right away. I got Communty M-200 drivers used here on the Forum and am looking at some Beyma and Radian drivers for the top end as the Community craps out a little early. I'm also working on tap settings and new caps as well. I figure in the long run I will probably have the same set-up as Greg's because the bottom line is the liquid smooooth open articulate sound from these makes it very difficult to go back to 1". If there is an upgrade alternative to any part of a system that rivals the sound of Greg's please let me know. I am using Quicksilver SET monos, VTL TL-5 pre, Don Allen CD w/ tube or a Denon 2910. "IF" you can audition to the 2" and stay with a 1" set-up I am very envious of you. Any significant difference at this stage of the game I have to have within reason. I sent Greg a pic and either he or I can post if anyone is interested in seeing the horn atop a Cornwall cab ( don't have corners for K-horns). I personally thinks it looks great. Rich
  7. Well Jay they are enroute to you and as I had previously mentioned the "withdrawal" factor has kicked in. I guess I had actually gotten used to them because my 1" are almost unacceptable. I keep going back re-checking all my connections thinking something is wrong now. Yes, Greg, I have to have them. Good Luck Jay! Rich
  8. V-TRAC IMPRESSIONS: Having Greg's set-up with my Cornscala's this week I can say it has a bigger more dynamic "open" sound. I am comparing them directly to 1" tractrix horns which I was very happy with made by Gothover here on the Forum. I personally find the differences even more exagerrated at medium to high volume levels. I have not as yet used the attenuators as Greg has encouraged me to do, I am satisfied with the sound as is. I have to have these as the improvement is substantial, but the investment is a significant one for me. I'll have to do it step at a time and my 1" wooden Tractrix horns and Atlas drivers will be for sale. If you don't want any improvement in your present sound whether it be Korns or Cornscala's etc. then I am envious of you. It's always fun to go back and re-listen to ALL of your favorite music all over again. I think the real factor will be the "withdrawal" one. After they are gone and going back to 1". If you are still using plastic horns you should at the very least move up to wooden even if only 1". I am using Quicksilver SET 88 monos which I have just recently purchased along with a VTL TL-5 pre, and Don Allen CD/ Denon 2910. Thank you Greg for this oppurtunity, it was certainly worth the shipping costs outlay to be able to enjoy these and be able to first hand make a decision based on experience. It surprises me you don't have hundreds on your list for a trial ??? ( Greg- I did not find the Beyma "hot" in any way, SUPER smooth as was the midrange ) . If anyone has any questions on my subjective perceptions, please ask...I hope this was helpful in a modest way.
  9. Greg, is there a possible 2nd choice to these BMS drivers for those of us that would like to go for the 2" driver and horn combo but simply can't afford ( especially now in these economic times) a possible outlay of $3000 to build it yourself. This $ would account for horns, woofers, crossovers, tweeters, and building cabs or purchasing a pair of Khorns which would be even more. The object here is to go with the larger 2" V-trac horns, which you have obviously done your homework on, can you suggest an alternative ( if in fact there is one) for those of us less fortunate?
  10. Hello, I want to build a Cornscala with a seperate ported bass bin. I have read that it is bad for a 2'x2'x2' cabinet ( because of the soundwaves)? Can somebody help me out with some information here, as I would be willing to build it 24x28x20 if that would make a difference sonically. I believe the wood Trachorn that I will use will fit with a 20" depth. Either way it will have the cubic feet needed for bass to compare with a Cornwall. My original Cornwall built last summer is the exact dimensions of a Cornwall with a much bigger horn. All Crites drivers and crossovers, but now looking at a ALK Trachorn, a Beyma tweeter, with Crites woofers, and probably ALK crossovers, also looking ahead already to a larger format using Greg Roberts horns. Anyway, what about the dimensions? thanks, Rich
  11. I realize I am new here, but being the owner of Heresy's, Forte's and "Cornscala's", and being that you have already mentioned Mr. Crites name here, IMHO building a pair of Cornscalas using all of Bob Crites components and crossovers will blow away original LaScalas , Cornwalls, Chorus' and anything smaller. The bass if ported properly is outstanding and would NEVER need the support of a sub, the midrange horn is so much larger than a Cornwall, and of course Bob's tweeter and crossovers. Even IF you can't build the cabinets and would have to pay someone to do it, it would be well worth the effort. The total project is a little over 1K if you build them yourself, maybe 1500 if you pay someone. You could match them against anything under 3k new or used. Mr Crites has the plans. I also do and would be more than willing to help anyone out with a copy or answering any questions. Rich
