  1. Try a Belle, Bellas are beautiful but not the same as a Belle :D Mark LoL I didnt even realize I did that! Well everyone will be happy to know I found a pair today so now I've got a La Scala as a center and I'll probably be posting the other up for sale in the garage sale tomorrow. Everything good except I hate to see a pair split up
  2. I just got back from a trip to visit friends and family in the Orlando area. Quite frankly I get nervous running down a utility road with tall grass on both sides. Both my wife and I just shook our heads when we heard the story as we know you assume that there are gators in every body of water there. I've seen them in the smallest of ponds outside a back door in very suburban neighborhoods. I guess that family from Nebraska just felt safe within the confines of Disney, but that is just not how you handle any lake in Florida. A very sad situation that was easily avoidable.
  3. A metaphor to dropping doing anything other than gasping for my last breath in a hospice.
  4. If you are at full retirement age for SS at 66, don't wait until you are 70. While it is true you get another 8.5% for each year after for up to four years, it will take you approx. 15 years to break even, meaning it will be 15 years before you make up what you weren't receiving for those 4 years. Bruce I appreciate the input. My wife will file at 66 and I'll file and restrict, so I'll still be getting a check. As I stated, I know I'm rolling the dice, but I'm working full time and building a gov't pension. More than money in my pocket, it's about having the money to spend on what I want. I'm spoiled and lucky to this point. At 65, I bowled a 779 series last night. Someday it will all catch up, but I'm of the opinion that I'd rather die with a sword in my hand. Thanks again for the advice.
  5. My stated goal in retirement is to not have to eat dog food when I'm 80 I'm Medicare age, but plan to work until 70 before collecting SS. My biggest expense saving will be wear and tear on my commuter car and gas which is not trivial as my daily mileage is 150 miles. I'll have good health insurance on top of the Medicare, so I think I've got that covered. I have equity in my home and some savings, so I think I'll be able to achieve my stated goal. Life is a crap shoot, so even though I have my health now and a plan in place, it could all catch up to me and waiting to retire could look like a mistake. Stay tuned
  6. With a 4k TV, you might consider a BR player that has two outputs that many Pannys have. You can bypass the avr with the video signal and run the audio direct to the avr. I suppose some cable company dvrs will eventually offer 4k, but in the interim you can save some significant change by purchasing a good 7.2 avr. The tv probably up converts anything that is less than 4k. I run everything through my Onkyo, but switch the video when I use the BD player. My $.02.
  7. Bourne made the Bond Franchise up their game with a tougher 007 who didn't look and act like a fashion plate.
  8. Considering that you'd need to drag these on a trailer to travel on road then switch, you might as well drag a snow cat.
  9. Probably the tops I bought in SLC 6 years ago that I couldn't find the bins to.
  10. I tried two from Monoprice, one touted for 3D pass through. Neither worked. I use two cables to my projector now.

  12. I like to watch the races in my HT, but do not consider myself a big fan as I don't know beans about a lot of the tech or off track issues. I do wish that the teams were more evenly matched as the races are definitely boring most of the time due to the winner being established in qualifying. The announcers do a decent job trying to keep interest and the feeds from F1 will often focus on anywhere in the race that there is any possibility of drama. All in all a beautiful spectacle for most races, but not very competitive. Hopefully, more competitive this year.
  13. Not sure if this was tongue in check or not. I rebuilt a R2R that I picked up for $30. Maybe put another $40 into it. Plays fine, but it takes an effort for me to actually play it very often. I'll peruse the bay for tapes and I've not been disappointed in what I've received. They appear to play well and other than the usual tape noise, I kind of like the niche oddity of having tape in my system. Old Beatles, Stones and other groups from the 60's can bring big dollars for tapes on ebay. I also pick up DBX encoded albums as I have an old DBX decoder and maybe a couple of dozen albums. I was being serious. I own three RTR machines and just a single TT. I've not had the turntable in active system use in years. So, if R2R is coming back, are there any companies even thinking of building machines again? Seems like they would be prohibitively expensive compared to TT.
  14. Bought new LaScalas in 1981. My first significant purchase after graduating from college. I still have them.

  16. What's wrong with companies making money if there is a market. There are many fad items for sale and occasionally something takes off. That vinyl exists and I can still get needles and cartridges and some company makes a dollar doesn't offend me. No one crawled under barbed wire to get out of a capitalistic economy. If something costs too much, wait. There will always be sales or someone who jumps off the wagon wanting to unload their once cherished collector edition.
  17. I showed these a couple of weeks ago: https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/162131-lsis-in-slc/ I think they're a bit rough for $1k. If the price was lower, I'd like them as a project.
  18. This was one of the reasons I chose Epson. I was concerned about support and availability of replacement bulbs. Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Although the Panasonic bulbs are supposed to last something like 4,000 hours. By the time I watch this thing for that long, the 4k projectors will probably be within range of upgrading. I got 5500 hours out of my last bulb. I would be surprised if Panasonic left their customers high and dry without the minimal support of providing bulbs. Then again, I was surprised they were pulling out of the HT projector business. I hope they give a bit of warning and provide some time to buy a bulb or three if they do decide not to support.
  19. My Panny has been excellent. I have a DIY gray screen and quite frankly I've never noted poor black levels. I'm sure there are better projectors in that area, but I'm happy. I watch mainly football, NASCAR, F1 and movies. The 3D capability seems very good. I got a good buy on Sony Playstation glasses for $8 pair on the bay so when we have the whole family there we can all enjoy. If you go for the 3D then make sure your receiver can handle it or you go with a Panny Bluray with two outputs.
  20. I lived in a small condo when I first got married. They were on an 7 ft. wall and the listening distance was about 6 ft. . I carried them around for years and sometimes they were stored in neighbors basements due to a low WAF I've never regretted the hassle of moving them and storing them. jimjimbo's advice is sound (pun intended). Get them now and somehow you'll find a spot for them.
  21. Here's an even better pic with the wires shown from the inside. The terminal posts are at the top and the speaker mounts over the cutout.
  22. Google LaScala plans and you would see that the connectors are on the motor board for the woofer. The V in the wood is part of the design for the horn waveguide. There is another at the bottom, but unseen as the back covers it. Edit: You probably won't see plans for a split, but the plans would show the motor board, cutout in the motor board and the four pieces that form the expanding v for the horn. The terminal posts are installed directly into the woofer chamber. Better yet. Here's a pic of the assembly without the back cover. The posts are attached between the arms of the V.
