  1. I once restored a circa 1900 house, sold it to some buyers who loved living in an old, functional house. They sold it to another couple who tore out all the restorations, some incredibly beautiful, and replaced a lot of the wood work, doors, windows with white vinyl plastic coated replacements. Made me sick, but had to just put it behind me since I was no longer the owner. I've vented with others and now here, but when you don't own it anymore you can't control what tasteless folk will do.
  2. In Provo, south of Salt Lake. I have no idea of the desirability of these, but I did see one discontinued on Amazon for $1500. Probably make a great setup for an HT. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=218&ad=37310954&cat=&lpid=&search=klipsch&ad_cid=8
  3. Why wouldn't you run the Cable Box HDMI into the receiver and then run the output HDMI to the TV?
  4. Used, abused and tossed to the side of the road like a used kleenix. Oh, well. Apparently, he got a good price on them.
  5. I might take a look at them if they're available later in the week. It's about 50 miles from my home and I'd need to take the Bronco. Probably offer less than that, but I also don't want to truly rip anyone off.
  6. Anybody have any idea on the value of this stuff? http://www.ksl.com/?nid=218&ad=37915113&cat=&lpid=&search=klipsch&ad_cid=5
  7. Watched Avatar last night. My son hadn't seen it. I think he was deployed when it came out. Interesting demo of DTS after the credits that I don't think I'd seen before. Sounded very good on my system.
  8. +1^ I use quintets for our den system. I added a sub. The sound from the center (mainly voice) is very good and the small speakers are high on the WAF. We don't use it at high volume like the HT, but for general listening to commercial TV they work fine. I got mine used online. Check and I'll bet you can find some very reasonable..
  9. I remember my aunts and uncles giving my grandfather a round of cheese. After he opened it and put it down they spirited it away and re-wrapped it. About the fourth go round he just muttered, "That's a lot of cheese.". At my age now, I'm not sure it was nice or cruel, but it was hilarious at the time.
  10. I'd put it as violence against a civilian population as opposed to war in general. War can have terrorism, but terrorism does not require a war.
  11. When I finally got a Panasonic BD Player with two outputs that enabled me to play BRs I looked around and I only had two BRs. This was one of them. The wife came down and watched with me. We like the movie. It is interesting how much darker the 3D is compared to the 2D.
  12. My 1995 Bronco was sort of put to pasture when I bought a Focus in 2005. The Bronco has 205,000 miles and I bought it as a demonstrator that had 325 miles at the time. I spent last winter in my garage/man cave patching some rusted out fenders and the tailgate. Pretty common for Ford Trucks. Next up are some new seat cushion covers that the wife says are my Christmas present. They will look like originals. It still runs great with just a few of the nits common to Broncos of that era. The Mercedes was bought after I put over 200k on the Focus that was my daily driver. It was bought because gas was just too expensive for the Bronco. Fact is, the cost of the payment was less than what the premium I was paying for driving the Bronco. I commute about 75miles each way so the miles add up. The Focus was good transportation, but when it came time to replace it the wife wanted me in a larger vehicle due to the hazards of deer, snow and ice. I damaged the Focus twice on snow and ice. After researching four wheel drive cars I found that an E-350 would be the best option. I bought it with 23,000 miles on it and have put another 207,000 in about 7 years. It is a whole lot quieter to ride in than the Focus. I replaced the front drive shaft last summer. The only major work I've done, but had a fender replaced after killing Bambi. It was a bit more money than I've ever spent on a car, but the reliability has been superb. I expect to have 300k on it before I consider replacing it. Obviously, I've no qualms with driving vehicles many miles before replacement. Service a vehicle regularly and they'll generally serve you well.
  13. And as they disappeared and became rare, they would increase in value and be worth more than a......penny.
  14. I don't see a pic for the trim. Is it a regular LSI or a split?
  15. FWIW - The result is not the same as out front. I don't understand your comment. Putting surrounds out front?
  16. There isnt an acoustic law that says the surrounds have to be situated behind you. Another for Heresy or Pro surrounds......and put'em in front if you simply cannot place them behind. Before I went to 7.1, my surrounds were mounted behind. The now serve as my rears. I think to the side of the listening position is preferable.
  17. Tomorrowland. Story about a 6. Visuals and audio... ok. Nothing really to draw me back to watch again.
  18. I sort of fell into this, but I use four Academys for surrounds and rears. I had bought an Academy for a center, then went with a DIY chopped LaScala, built a second for a 5.1 setup and then had two Academys drop on a local list for $300/pair and I had the 7.1. A bit bulky to mount and hang but the sound is great

    Love my Tundra

Uhmmm.... 95 Bronco. 15 mpg. Just took out the rust. 205,000 miles. Just about broke in, but it's just my projects vehicle on weekends.
  20. I've been looking at ATMOS threads for a while. I've seen many say they won't buy an ATMOS receiver that doesn't include DTS-X. My question is, will movies on Blu Ray be one or the other or will both audio tracks be included. I've read that DTS-X may or may not conform to an ATMOS speaker configuration and so it seems those considering adding four more speakers could be in a tough position.

    Old Age

I used to run 140-150 miles a month. Now I joggle about 40. Then and now people ask what I'm training for, assuming that one wouldn't be out on the roads if one didn't have a special race in mind. Back then and now I tell them that I'm training for old age. Getting old is not a spectator sport. Use it or loose it.
  22. The GE Commercial comparing Fuel Gauges on a jet airliner. The one on the rights "uses" less fuel than the one on the left. I've never known a fuel gauge that consumed fuel. This by a company that is pushing their engineering prowess. As far as drug company ads. My experience is that all drugs have side affects. Of course there are other drugs that can deal with those side affects. I avoid all that I possibly can.
  23. They were described as pretty old . I'll have to check if she has other "old" stuff listed.
  24. My mother raised my brother and me on a waitresses salary. Not a lot of money to throw around, but she bought one of the first Zeniths. She loved her TV. It was tough to keep working back then. Had a repairman out about twice a year.
  25. Maybe a little off topic, but what about those things that just don't seem to be a good as you remember? I tried a Twinkie the other day and I bet I haven't had one in 20 years. Just didn't taste like I remember. Ritz crackers is another. Just not as buttery. I don't know if its my taste buds or if they've reduced costs by using less costly ingredients.
