  1. Electrolytics can dry out after 35 years. If you can measure all your caps, including the ESR, that'll give you the answer if any of them have gone bad. Every other thing you've asked is subject to opinion. Welcome to the forum.
  2. I used to go to Shakey's Pizza in Yokohama on my way back from Akihabara in Tokyo. They served a thin crust, like their US parlors did, but toppings were different. The only one I remember is corn, which was pretty good.
  3. They're just breaking in one of those new pizza ovens someone bought on Amazon.

My mom used to cook a pot roast like that, likely bulletproof to the projectiles available back then.

Is that yer meat helmet there, @oldtimer ?
  6. I double checked a lot of the binding posts I have, and none of them like the ones pictured have removable caps. I could likely force some off, but no guarantee getting them to go back on without stripping or cross threading either the post or the cap.
  7. Need a picture of these, if you can get one. I have drawers full of binding posts, some going back to the early 20th century. Most were designed for the end cap or nut to not come off. So picture, major diameter, and thread pitch, if you can get them.

    Conundrum

I bought a 1978 Klipsch Belle for a center. My flat screen TV sits on top of it.
  9. One of these should work....
  10. The taste always reminds me of siphoning gas out of my dad's truck for my homemade go kart back in junior high.

    Conundrum

I ordered an Academy because it was magnetically shielded, my Heresy center was messing with my TV. I ended up selling it because it sounded too different (IMHO) from either my Heresys or Khorns. A third Heresy in the center would be the best match, that way the LCR is identical.
  12. Do you have a drill press? A hole saw or a flycutter make cleaner holes, but the work and the cutting tool need to be steady, both for neatness and safety.
  13. Loose analog meter movements are occasionally shipped with the terminals shorted, it prevents the needle from moving.
  14. The two schematics are posted above, on the May 1 2007 post, right next to Gil's signature. I was able to click on it, display it, and save it.
  15. It depends what you want the center channel for. For home theater, if you have an AV receiver, connect the center speaker to the CENTER speaker terminals on the receiver. To buy a La Scala, the usual places are the Garage Sale forum, eBay, Craigslist. I believe you'll need to hear the speakers playing to decide if you want or need a subwoofer. Each La Scala has a 12" woofer in it, so 3 speakers (Left, Right, Center) with their 12" woofers might be all you want. There's ways to test and measure frequencies depending on how complex your equipment is. All that comes after you have that third speaker in place.
  16. I lived there in the 80s for 6 1/2 yrs, the place does better with a strong leader that goes after corruption than one that doesn't. The targets have been drug dealers, which to exist, have been ignored or protected by local law enforcement or politicians. Getting rid of the scum that sells illegal drugs naturally has mass appeal. I intend to go back to Luzon in a few years, wife and I have a couple lots on a hillside in a gated community overlooking the South China Sea.
  17. I saw a YouTube video a few months ago that showed how many brands Luxottica owns. They bought the Ray Ban brand when it was dying, likely the reason they're made in Italy now. My youngest went to college in Manhattan, and still lives there. Her 299 square foot studio apartment measures 13 x 23 feet, and costs $2100 a month. The thing is, there's always so many places to see and do, and new places to eat, that I wouldn't mind staying there if I could afford it. I wish I'd taken notes when a hobby shop clerk described how to get a rent controlled apartment. I've gone there on average, twice a year for the past 8 years, and haven't gotten tired of it yet. I have grass where I live now, and as long as it grows, I don't think too much about it.
  18. Not a problem. The difference isn't big enough to worry about, or hear. If you get your ears tested, there's a good chance there'll be more than a 3-5% difference between them.
  19. Part of this could be the listening position. The La Scala and Klipschorn mid horns are further up from the floor than the Cornwall.
  20. The SUBWOOFER section has a pinned post for hum problems that was started by @jason str
  21. Simple, and looks good, too. It looks even better without the quonset hut on top. I don't think I've seen two diodes in the rectifier plate circuit before.
  22. I'm still furloughed under the pandemic excuse. It sux. Those 3E boards look to have some potential, especially the 3 channel. I'm not reluctant to ordering a switching power supply, but I'm wondering what current the TI 3255 board needs? I've got a NOS Stancor 24VCT 4Amp transformer that I was wondering about making into a linear supply.
  23. Mine's still in the box, ordered before the infamous Class D thread disappeared a couple years ago. I'm interested in all the tweaks you're installing, please describe them as you progress with the build.
  24. I haven't seen the fuse question answered yet. The crossover schematic shows two, including one in the woofer circuit. What do they measure?
