  1. Sorry, the post was intended for Chi Town
  2. I noticed that you are running Adcoms with your Fortes. I am curious as to your experience with this setup. I too own a couple of Adcoms (5400 and 535) and currently use them with Vandersteen 1 & 2"s. I own a pair of Forte 1's and will doing upgrades and inserting into a vintage system I am assembling down the road. I have a Sansui 771 that I am going to use in this system.
  3. What about some of the 70's receiver's from Sansui, Marantz, Sherwood, etc? I have heard they have a tube like sound as well and for budget reasons are good buys.
  4. I have a pair of Forte's that I would like to upgrade. They need some box work done so I thought that I would also start an upgrade path for the drivers and crossover as well using Bob Crites products. What would be best stepped way to go about this. Also how does any of the upgrades relate to the type of amplifier used with the Forte's? I currently have an Adcom GFA 545II that has been upgraded as well. Thanks for the input
  5. I have a pair of Fortes that I am considering parting out. All the inards are in great shape. I would like to find out what value each of the components of the speaker have except for the boxes. All the drivers are in excellent condition.
  6. I have a Kenwood KA3500 Amp that I would like to upgrade. Nothing really wrong with it but I am searching for particular upgrade paths to obtain the best possible output from it to drive my Fortes. Any suggestions?
  7. There are some real nice alternate spray finishes that I think would hide the wood grain or give some effect that is unique. Today I spray finished my KA3500 metal case with a sand finish Rustoleum black paint and it looks really good. I am thinking about getting some creative with the finish for my Fortes but if I don't like the look it will be a chore to redo. Fun anyway.
  8. Well, these sound like good deals so I will tell you mine. I stopped at a roadside flea market kind of stand and saw a pair of Klipsch Forte sitting in the sun when the guy comes up to me and says she's wanting 40.00 for them but I'll let you take em for 30. I asked for his pocket knife and gently removed the grills and looked at perfect condition drivers in both units. They are the oak finish and had water damage on the top of one of them. Needless to say I now own them and am happy to have to do some woodworking on them to bring them up to standard.
  9. Interesting, I am in the process of refinishing my Forte's as well. I had one of them with a water damaged top that I had to cut half of the veneer off of and sand down to where the water damage stops on the wood and then I am filling in the cavities with wood filler. I will then sand and reveneer that portion to see if I can match the oak well enough. My goal is to change the stain color on the wood from the natural oak finish to something of a cherry finish. Don't know if that can be accomplished but the worst I could do is end up painting them black. Anyone out there have any suggestions on steam cleaning the grills? They are dirty but have no defects. I am wondering if steam cleaning would damage them.
  10. Has anyone attempted replacing a broken binding post? One of my posts is broken and to replace it I would have to remove the soldered connection from the crossover board. Would this have any negative impact on the sound after resoldering?
  11. I recently picked up a pair of Forte 1 and the wood veneer is in need of replacing on one of the speakers. It has an 8 inch split in it and is bubbled on the top of the speaker. What I would like to do is reveneer the speakers. Does anyone have an knowledge about doing something like this to the Forte?
  12. I just picked up a pair of Forte on the side of the road the other day. I was looking at them and the guy selling said they were asking 40.00 but would take 30.00. They do have some moderate veneer damage (split and raised up on top of one of the speakers) and one of the speaker binding posts is broken off but after looking at the drivers which are in nice shape I took them.
