Marvel has given you great advice on the QSC PLX series of amplifiers. They sound great and have tons of power. Use to own a pair of Adcom 565 monoblocs and the QSC just outperformed them in every possible way. My Aragon 4004 MK II and the QSC were fairly close but the QSC was the winner. It just stays smooth and has tons of power. As for Crown I have been converted. The Crown K series is just unbelievable. Power in spades with complete control of a woofer. Actually the Crown K-2 has a very smooth and laid back midrange. Just perfect for my Chorus II's. As good as the QSC's are the K series from Crown are better. A few of the folks that steered me in that direction knew what they were talking about. Theres no fan to worry about. The K series have a completey sealed case. With the gains maxed out and the preamp full throttle I have not the slightest hiss down the throat of the horns. Music from blackness. I like rock music and I like to rock out and with that in mind the Crown K-2 gives me what I need.

Ah. Yeah those sound quite a bit different. Just so you understand what I was saying about your black Cornwalls. I think they look excellent on your front wall with all the other equipment. Sometimes appearance has a way of changing our perception. In truth, there are alot of opinions about whats better but really thats all they are is opinions. I think there are alot more folks who love the Cornwalls maybe than any other Klipsch offerings. I just know for my room with my gear with my style of music they just didn't work out.

Are saying muddy as in boomy or muddy as in loose. I described muddy as loose. I've yet to get a Chorus II to sound loose. I can face the speaker in the corner and not get loose out of it. I can cover it with pillows and blankets and not get loose. Now if I put it flat against the rear wall and crank the loudness and bass I can get boomy. I know the forte II is voiced a little diferent than its big brother and thats why I chose the big brother years ago but loose? I can't imagine.

On a serious note, I have compared Chorus II,big brother of the Forte II, to Cornwall I(1976 with new xovers) and it really wasn't even close. If your talking around 80 dbs the Cornwall is an absolute amazing speaker. Once you throttle it no contest. Duke Spinner described the Cornwall the best I've ever heard it described. "Rumble Box" Are you saying at low volumes the Cornwalls win but at high volumes the Chorus II wins? I listened to a set of Chorus IIs with the intent of buying them but they just didn't grab me. I'm sure the crossovers needed to be freshened up but overall I just couldn't pull the trigger. They sounded lifeless. I didn't throttle them too much maybe I missed something and missed out on some great speakers. I am saying at low volumes they are close and at high volumes theres no contest. In my opinion if you dont have forte II/ Chorus II in descent corners you aren't realizing the potential of the speaker anyways. But with the Cornwall, if I put it in the same corners as my Chorus II's they got even muddier sounding. I had to really pull the Cornwall out and away from the wall to eleviate some of the bass boom and muddiness. But it was something I just couldn't get rid of and its something I just can't live with in any speaker. The other problem was the midrange for me. At higher volumes the tractrix stays so smooth and the exponential of the Cornwall would just start to scream(this is with new xovers installed). Thats why I have always felt the Cornwall at about 80 dbs with a tube amp and preamp makes for a great jazz speaker. The Chorus II is more for the person who likes to rock out. As usual just my 2 cents. By the way EZ on the paint I was just joking[:|]

Those look like some sweet amps. Where are you located? I'd love to hear them with RF-7's. Over 100 watts of tube power? Now we're talking. His cd player and preamp are no slouches either. Nice gear.

The amp looks pretty impressive.

In my experience with the "boxie" sound it wasn't the horns....it was the bass. Lack of solid power to the woofer that sounded like a cheap cabinet to my ears. I've heard this not so much with Heresies but with Chorus's lacking power and especially Forte's. Kinda like what we were describing before about Chorus's that aren't fed enough juice......no bass and "in your face highs"......along with that I hear that "cheap cabinet" or " boxie" sound. It seems that more power or an improvement in power overcomes these shortcomings with awesome results. I follow you now. I'm with you on the power. I have ran alot of equipment on these Chorus II's and only once I put real power with the QSC or the Crown I've achieved the success I was looking for with controlling the woofer. Even the Aragon 4004 MKII couldn't get it done and that thing is a workhorse. Now I've not had the level of gear especially tube gear that RSP has so I respect his take but I still find the Chorus II woofer needing tons of power. Oh by the way the Chorus II cabinet is a very well constructed piece of art! Rap on the top of one........thud.

I couldn't agree with you more. However, if they sound "boxie" it's because they need more power.....or better power. I hate that "boxie" sound. The tractrix doesnt sound anything like the exponential. We are talking about 2 totally different designs when we use these 2 speakers in the same sentence. One is a passive design the other sealed. We probably could of used any 2 speakers in the world with that comment. "Boxie"? If you want to get away from "boxie" buy some Electrostatic or Ribbon Speakers(Planars). Myself, I've heard Klipsch sound honk-ey but I find the horns eleviate the "boxie" sound if thats even a word.

Wuzzer you should really wait until you've heard them both side by side. You might not be so hasty.

The popping his woofers are making at high volumes is clipping plain and simple. Its not the wall, light switch, breaker box, brand of amp or speakers. He is trying to get more than the amp is willing to give. Amplifier 101. You want more power buy a bigger amp!

Its not the speakers . You could run a 1,000 watt amp on those speakers would be my bet. Your Emotiva is running out of gas and clipping something terrible when you here your speakers pop. 500 watts/channel on a Chorus II with the bass on the preamp anywhere you want it and it just pounds you. Hip hop or anything else you want to throw at them. I would imagine the RF-7s can take the same with no problem.

Isn't Emotiva for those folks with a budget in mind. Kind of bang for the buck kind of thing. Seriously if your looking for the best I would wager to guess theres an endless sea of good equipment out there if you have no budget in mind be it tubes or ss. VRD, Quicksilver,VTL,Manley, Audio Research,McIntosh,Conrad Johnson,Rogue Audio,Bat and Atmosphere just to name a few tube products. Krell, Mark Levinson, McIntosh, Classe, Pass Labs, McCormack, Bat, Gamut, Audio Research and Jeff Rowland just to name a few ss products. All of which can drive difficult loads like the RF-7s with ease.

Well being hes a fan of the Chorus II sure theres a choice. I know which choice I would make.

Doesn't sound like you have anything to worry about. If I'm not mistaken I believe it was a problem with the glue to no fault of Klipsch. But in business keeping a close eye on suppliers is part of it. I'll bet its sounding great.

I've noticed this as well going from RF-7's to KLF-30's. It's really loud......but doesn't hurt my ears and stays extremely smooth. I've also noticed that listening to a three-way speaker at low volumes can be more fulfilling. Sounds like those KLF 30's are doing nicely. Good to hear.[Y] I always thought the 30's and Chorus II's were about the best offerings for just pounding you. Personally, I was just a little dissappointed with the 30's construction. I thought Klipsch kind of had a hiccup on that one. The way you rock Scott time will tell if they are going to hold up for you. Got my fingers crossed for ya man.

I'll buy that at moderate volumes. At 115 db a Chorus II will pound you and stay smooth.
