  1. Hi guys, I thought I'd update you on the DVD player situation. I went with the Sony DVP S560D. After watching eight or ten DVDs I find that I am quite content with my purchase. Very nice video quality and a great price with the rebate. I am using the S560D strictly for DVDs and sticking with the old Pioneer system for CDs, for the time-being anyway. Eventually I'll upgrade the audio system...probably with Denon...and maybe incorporate it into a home theatre system. You guys will know when I do 'cause I'll be back to ask you more questions about that too. Thanks very much for all of your responses. They proved most helpful in making my decision. Bobby
  2. Thanks Cruzer, but the DVD player is what I really need right now. I'll definitely keep my eye on Denon when I upgrade my audio system, or combine everything into a home theater.
  3. boa12, I'll find out on Tuesday when I pick it up whether or not she can cut me a break on an extended warranty. It's possible, because another friend at the same place did it for me on my Alpine system in my car a little over a year ago. I'll certainly give this model a good once over when I get it hooked up, and continue to keep my eyes open for the problems that you have experienced with yours. Thanks for the information and the tip on the extended warranty!
  4. PhilH and boa12, You're right, this Sony does not play CD-RWs. I'm only going to use it for DVD play and keep my existing CD player as well. I had thought about combining the two and getting rid of my CD player, but I'll wait a little longer before I do that...to see what the market has to offer in the next year or two. Until then, I'm going with a single disc DVD player. A friend of mine has this same model and is very pleased with it. I would be interested to hear of the problems you've encountered with yours boa12. Thanks for your response guys, 'cause if I had been planning on using this for more than DVDs you would have helped me correct a huge boo-boo!
  5. Jedro, I just got an E-mail explaining the letter designation on the Klipsch Heritage speakers. It is as follows: 1st letter = model: H=Heresy/ B=Belle Klipsch/ C=Cornwall/ LS=Lascala/ K=Klipschorn 2nd letter = veneer: B=Birch/ O=Oak/ W=Walnut/ M=Mahogany etc 3rd letter = finish: R=Raw/ O=Oil/ L=Lacquer/ B=Black paint HBB is Heresy, Birch veneer, painted black. Hope it helps! Thanks to Bill for E-mailing this information to me as well.
  6. Thank you all for the informative responses. While the Denon 3700 is quite appealing, its inability to play CD-RWs is somewhat of a drawback for me. Also, with the industry in a transitory phase as Ray suggests, and since I don't want to drop $1500(WOW) on an Arcam Diva DV-88, it would probably be my best bet to keep the pioneer CD player that I've been using and simply add a reasonably priced DVD player. I have a friend who works at a local A/V store that can get a Sony DVP S560D for me at cost, plus there is a $50 mail-in rebate on this model that she says will still apply. For now I'm going with this model, but I'll keep my eyes open for upgrading in the future. Again, thanks for your responses! They proved most helpful in making my decision!
  7. Jedro, These are 1984 Heresys, which are Heresy 1's. From my understanding, "type" on the sticker on the back of the speakers refers to the wood and finish combination. I just got a pair of 1984 Heresys, type HWO (Heresy-walnut-oil as it was explained to me), but I don't know what HBB stands for. I posted a similar question a few weeks ago and received some very informative responses. Check page 2 of the technical questions section for the topic entitled "Info. on older model heresy speakers?". I hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy your heresys as much as I am enjoying mine.
  8. It's time to purchase a dvd player, and I am contemplating a dvd/cd carousel player such as the Denon DVM-3700. Will this, or any dvd/cd player produce the same audio quality when playing cds as a standard cd player will, or is it best to keep the dvd and cd players separate? The Sony DVP-C670D and the HK DVD5 are options as well. I plan on checking some of these out later on in the week, but first wanted to get some input from you guys. Anything you can enlighten me with would be most appreciated. Thanks!
  9. Yes, I received similar responses last week when I asked for info. on older model heresys in the Technical Questions section. I'm not one to go through another's trash, but they were just sitting by the curb next to the trashcan and I couldn't resist stopping to see what kind of speakers they were. What a surprise!!! Not a bad idea to keep one's eyes open while riding through an upper class neighborhood on the night before trash collection...never know what you might find, and I wasn't even looking. They really sound great!
  10. Thanks for the info. I'm no longer flirting with the A700 (actually I think it's a 70 watt amp). It was offered on Ebay and ended up selling for under $100 without the tubes. Still a good deal maybe, but I'm going to stick with my solid state Pioneer receiver for now...maybe upgrade to a marantz amplifier and pre-amp that a friend may be selling. I just got a pair of 1984 heresys two weeks ago (someone had discarded them with their trash) that are in excellent condition, and had the thought of putting an older model tube amp with them. Maybe later, depending on the marantz situation. Thanks!
  11. Anyone ever run an older model Harman Kardon tube amp with their Heresys, or have any experience with older Harman Kardon amps? I'm flirting with an A700 and wondered if this would be a decent tube amp for my 1984 Heresys. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
  12. Thanks very much for the information and input folks, as well as the warm welcome to your bulletin board. These speakers really do sound great, and I haven't even had the chance to give them a proper set-up yet. I hadn't planned on rearranging the den, but that's pretty much necessary now in order to get them toed-in to the corners so that I can sit back and really enjoy the Klipsch experience.
  13. I picked up a pair of klipsch heresy speakers that someone had discarded with their trash. They are in very good shape and sound awesome...put my Bose 301s to shame. If anyone could help me out with a few questions such as the year they were manufactured, best setup procedure, type of system they work best with, and value of the speakers today and when they were new, it would certainly be appreciated. The serial numbers are 8428159 and 8428160, inspected by Sherry Stroud, type HWO, with 1980 Klipsch & Assoc., Inc. printed at the bottom of the sticker. I can't imagine anyone just throwing these things out, but I guess the old adage holds true..."one man's trash is another man's treasure." Thanks!
