  1. I just need to measure to see if they would work. I have a tractrix wooden horn and some jbl 2" drivers already. If you get another offer you should take it, but I should have some time this weekend to figure out dimensions.
  2. What's the cutout size/depth? I need to measure a couple of things...
  3. I'd take them. Let me know if you're coming through Fort Collins or maybe I'll drive up to Cheyenne and go mountain biking over at Curt Gowdy.
  4. I've been looking at building a mid-bass horn and have been working through fc, throat area and expansion contours. How do you calculate what the high frequency is going to be?
  5. I looked online for a photo of the mid monos and there are a couple of photos over on audioasylum. Just a quick glance between photos does show the build quality difference! From my earlier question: There is a small source signal that runs through the preamp when both the gain and volume are turned all the way down. I sent an e-mail and this is expected.
  6. The amps seem quiet enough, but I do seem to be getting some crosstalk (a small amount of music plays through the preamp even with volume all the way down) through the preamp...
  7. These are the newer versions and are running KT88 tubes (you can also run EL34s). After a couple hours of listening I'm really starting to like them. It just has a really clean sound with a lot of detail. They're ~50W amps, so plenty of power for my La Scalas.
  8. I've been loaned a set of Quicksilver Mid Monos to demo on my system. I'm kind of curious how these would compare to VRDs or other tubs amps? I had been thinking about staying SS with a Musical Fidelity preamp and McCormack DNA-1 amp, but there's a midrange hiss out of the McCormack that drives me a little crazy (have been running a rotel amp that is dead quiet, but looking for an upgrade). Now I'm trying the Quicksilvers to see if I like tubes better? I'm not really interested in a record player right now, but feel free to make suggestions or pick apart my current system... Listening setup this week: Juicy Music Blueberry Quicksilver Mid Monos LaScalas (fastrac horn, altec 902 drivers, alk gentle slope crossovers @500 and 5800, CT-125 tweets) Klipsch THX subs input - i170/iTouch, cd player (optical out) - into PS Audio DAC iii
  9. Rudy - what did you use to cut your circles? Jasper jig and a router? Any tips for cutting the holes by hand?
  10. Just out of curiosity - how would you calculate the throat of a single driver 3012lf? I was going through the numbers and think I made a mistake somewhere... St (throat area) = (2*pi)*fs * Qts * Vas) / c c = speed of sound (340 m/s) From usspeaker on the 3012lf: fs = 37.02 Qts = .32 Vas = 105.42 liters (1/1000m3) I get area of throat to be .023m^2 solving for radius in inches 3.3744? So if I wanted to build a round tractrix horn based on the 3012lf, I'd cut a ~6 3/4" diameter throat and expand my horn from that dimension?
  11. I used weatherstipping too. Also cut a small strip with 45 degree angles to put across the corners.
  12. I have this combo and like it. It's kind of interesting to note that the La Scala II HF crossover is at 4500 too (along with 1" plywood for the bass bins).
  13. The "head ringing" is definitely better with the 4500 and ct-125s. I like the sound and if you look at the specs on the La Scala II, they moved the crossover down. That said, soon I'm going to be playing with some fastrac horns, alk gentle slope crossovers and gpa 902's, so I'm not sure what I'll like best. Eventually you'll wind up with a basement full of half built cabinets, random horns and drivers!
  14. I'd consider a crites 4500hz crossover if you're getting the ct-125s. I went that route and have been happy (although I'm starting a new project now). It definitely smoothed out the top end.
  15. Just looking at the photos of the circletrac, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good 5-7" driver for this sort of horn. Long term I've thought about doing some sort of diy avantegarde nano, but not really sure where to start looking for the mid driver.
  16. I went in there last week. All projectors sold, things were full retail for a couple of days before starting to mark things down.
  17. Wow! Those look great! Did you build the mid horn yourself?
  18. Dave, Can you give a little more detail on the reflectors? I'm thinking about building a new set of La Scalas using ALK's gentle slope crossovers and using an altec 902... Since it has a higher recommended crossover than the klipsch driver, where do the reflectors extend the bass frequency to?
  19. All I can really say is wow.
  20. Has anyone heard the Quicksilver line of amps on Klipsch? What did you think? I might be able to get a pair of mid monos, but would also consider the horn or set monos. Thanks!
  21. You can input them into some of the home-brew crossover calculators. I'm kind of thinking about getting a woofer tester program just to be able to understand some of the loading better. Active may be a better way to go...
  22. Do you have a frd or zma file for the kappalites? Probably not since you're active, but just wondering...
  23. Just curious if your crossover is a Cornwall variant or something more? What woofers do you have to test?
  24. Can I get put at the bottom of the list?
