  1. Put the TV on top of the 64 you say? That's not a bad idea... I've been thinking how I want it higher. Has anyone else done this? Can anyone think of a reason not do it? Congrats on your purchase, how big is the room since I had my system in a dorm room that was 10X12 and had good results. Though you might want to have sound dampening material on the walls to prevent echos. I was in a cinder block dorm room that echoed pretty bad but posters and signs helped a lot, a lot more than I thought and I was skeptical. Also the rc64 is built well, probably can put a CRT tv on top of it without stressing it if you could balance it. But as Wuzzer said, put material inbetween. I say more felt like but make sure it doesn't slide to easily. Last note, you might want to look into a dedicated amp on your rf-83. I remember my Harmon Kardon two stereo receiver had the power to drive them without problem (claimed 120 watts) but when I switched to the Denon 3805 (claimed 120 watts) the bass disappeared. I realize quickly that the denon could not handle the ohm impedience for the bass (which can dip down to 2.8 ohms at 40 hertz I believe) and thus I was disheartened that the bass was gone. I then got a crown xti 1000 amp and all is well now, even better than the Harmon before. The room is a very odd shape, so i won't comment on the size, except that I sit about 9-10' from the tv - even though it doesn't look like it in the picture. I am considering some sound dampening material. What do you guys recommend? It would also probably make my neighbors happy too. I'm somewhat friendly with the ones that share a wall with these speakers and they say they have not heard them yet. I guess I'm lucky to have very thick walls and I *think that wall is up against their staircase. Though I am moving in 2 years so I may just hold off till then too. I WANT a dedicated amp for the 83 though it won't be happening for a while! I am impressed the Onkyo 876 as it seems to do a good job powering the speakers. However, I know a dedicated amp would do better. 2 Channel listening is fine with the bass, though I think I am a bass sensitive person and don't like too much (i know 'too much' is subjective). I have the cutoff set at 50hrtz. For the Onkyo, I can't change the speaker size per listening mode. So when I'm listening to 2 CH I'm actually listening to 2.1. I don't really mind that, though sometime I do change them to full and listen in 2 ch. At that point, the bass is fine, but could be better. As always, the system is a work in progress. What I haven't done yet, is put the speakers to full, but have the double bass off. That is next on the list different configurations. I have the system set to 4 ohms, is this correct? I have the option of 4, 6, or 8. If I were to bi-wire I would be locked into 4. As for putting the TV on the center speaker. I haven't done it. I don't think I will either since it will raise the hight of the tv and the tv is in the perfect spot when sitting on the couch. The couch is pretty old and we sink into when we sit. If it were a new couch and still firm, those few extra inches would probably change my mind. But like I said, I'll be moving in the 2 years and we'll get a new couch then, at which point, who knows how I'll be setting everything up.
  2. Yeah, I'm not going to be building a shelf like that - I DO NOT have those kinds of skills!! I have read that thread alread though and it is impressive! I'm also not going to be installing a shelf as I rent and will be moving in 2 years. I'm on the fence about putting the TV on the center speaker. I'm just not sure. Thanks for all the kind words by the way. I'm super happy with my new purchase. I really never thought I would have speakers like these. Long Live Klipsch!

  4. working on my sig too by the way
  5. previous speakers were JBL LX600s and currently powering with an Onkyo 806
  6. there must be a way to post these all at once
  7. center next to L/R - I knew they would be big but yikes
  8. It only posted on of my pics - so I'll have to post one at a time I guess.
  9. I got my new speakers two weeks ago but haven't had the chance to post the pics yet. so here goes.. I know the room is a little small for the size speaker but I couldn't help pass up the deal. I can't get over how awesome they are... clear, loud, rich. I knew they would be clear and I knew they would be loud and have good bass, but the it's the mids and smoothness that surprised me the most. My speakers before were so muddy that music, sound effects and voices all kinda bled together, the Klipsch allow everything to be separate but still part of the same track.... just very impressive. And much more immersive now that my rears match my fronts. Oh and I have since tweaked the toe and such, now they are facing pretty much straight on.
  10. My speakers shipped! AAAAHHH I'm so excited!!! I can't handle it. I can't track my order though so I don't know when they are going to come. I hope they come on Monday....does that seem reasonable? I have monday and tues off this week (don't ever work at a news station). Ooooh I can't wait.
  11. I just finished installing some of the GLS Audio banana plugs (will finish when I get my new fronts) and I have to say they are awesome! Never thought I would be so geeked about banana plugs but they were great. I highly recommend them to everyone.
  12. Did you buy that cable from monoprice? It's so pretty looking! Thanks for letting me know where to find the banana plugs - I like those GLS locking ones. I bought a 5 pack.
  13. Don't care about the monster name. I'm trying to avoid DIY as i can't help but doubt if the cable/plugs are getting a good connection.
  14. I ordered a pair of cherry RF-83s and an RC-64 from 6th Ave on June 2nd (you can read about the deal in the Klipsch RS-42 @ 6Ave Electronics post), I finally emailed 6th Ave on June 11th cause I haven't heard anything about shipping and my credit card wasn't charged, this is the response I get back... "Thanks for your e-mail. We sincerely apologize but we had to special order this from Klipsch and we expect them to arrive within 2-3 weeks. Thanks." Now, I've been saving for 2 years for speakers and these are way better than what I thought I was going to be able to get which makes me extra pumped. So this deal so it's hard to be mad as much as I am just sad, AND it's hard to think that a few extra weeks is going to make a difference after lusting for 2 years, but still I want my speakers! It'll end up being a month or more before I get them ARRRGGGGHH! OK on to my cable question -- not sure if this the right place to post this question but... I want new wire for my fronts when I get them. Right now I'm using monster cable, no banana plugs or anything. I want a set that have the plugs pre-attached. Any suggestions? What do you guys use? Should I just buy the little plugs you wire onto the cable? Somehow I don't think those are going to be as good as a set pre-wired. Thanks for the suggestions and listening to my little rant
  15. I've been reading the forums and saving for about 2 years. I found out about this deal and took a shot. Got a pair of 83s for 1500 and a rc-64 for 500. I'm pretty happy! I never thought I would get those speakers! It was a little more than I wanted to spend overall but it was such a good price i couldn't resist. now if only they would get shipped already! MrAlps
