75 watts for KHorns? yawza! Get you ear plugs! MC30's will do! Agree. 75 good tube watts will blow khorns out of the water. MC30's should be more than fine Even a MC225 would be completely adequate. Some guys drive KHorns with 10-15 tube wpc. MC275 with KHorns (@ 104db?) would be bonkers! If you have the money I guess...

If it's the mc-250 at AK in Barter town, then 800 seems reasonable without shipping. It is absolutely mint and he lists the work done and who did it that indicates it is running fine. So to the above post, it is in the 650 range for cosmetics and the 200-ish for the internal work done already. It is a beauty and I love my mc-250, I may buy other amps, but I'll be hard pressed to sell mine. ^ what he said

While I love my mc250, $800 is a high price (unless it has been serviced, recapped and has mint chrome) I'd say $475-650 is the fair market price depending on condition (chassis rust). Figure 200-ish for a service and recap. FYI Dewick's current wait time is pretty long.

Gaaah... The Wave Radio My brother in law is aware that I am into audio and finds it nessesary to talk about his goddamn wave radio to me at every family meeting. He tells me how convenient it is to bluetooth stream mp3's to it from his iphone and how wonderful it sounds.. The only thing that I can say to him is, 'yeah, must be great' I don't have the heart to tell him his wave radio is a $500 pos. He thinks its great, I'm not one to crap on someone's pride and joy.

Ahh yes, 'The Paradox Of Chioce' A hyper-accelerated consumer culture has people (mainly 30-40 yr olds) buying things or subscribing to services (electronic gadgets, kitchen tools, phone apps and etc) and then trying to figure how to integrate them into their lives. This 'gadgetization' has an infantilizing effect on many grown adults. It's quite funny/sad. If you've ever purchased a 'melon spoon', I'm talking about you. Back on topic: 'Kids' these days only know electroincs that you replace every 2-5 years. Making a long term investment into a piece of audio gear that could last a lifetime is silly nonsense to someone who replaces their phone and game console every 2 years (or less).

I think that OLDTIMER maybe referring to the issues of water and veneer. Things can start peeling if the veneer glue is compromised by too much moisture or hard chemicals. Solid woods are more forgiving than paper thin glued on veneers

Tung oil is great and I use it on everything. It gives such a rich, natural and HARD finish. That said, stain will not penetrate the tung oil. The oil is the sealant. The stain will just sit on the tung oil and eventually will rub off with everything that touches it. Removing tung oil is a mechanical process (sanding/steel wool with mineral spirits), there is no 'stripper' for oil finishes (that works). If you were looking to go darker with your existing finish; I believe there are tinted Tung oils. Additional coats will darken your piece. Good luck.

French press. I never thought much of the lowly contraption until we lost power and had to give this cave man technology a try. I haven't used the Keurig since. French press makes the smoothest and strongest coffee that I've ever enjoyed. Nothing fancy or European, it's a $20 Mr Coffee brand. Amazing. Give it a try people! As for cillis: The Thai prik kee noo pepper is fantastic. Not a super hot, very flavorful indeed.

Sprags: Do you feel that building a speaker that is currently in production is cost effective? My inclination is that it would not be. If you want to DIY a speaker: I would use a readily available and tested plan for a something special or unique that you can't just go out an buy in a store. For example; build a Pi Speaker, Treols Graesens JBL L100 clone, or a Crites Cornscala kit, etc If you want any of those, you have to build 'em! /that's my 2 cents. Regardless of that, best of luck on the project!

I support the previously stated ' you have to hear them both live and not on youtube'. You cannot capture the essence on a low quality you tube recording. Not sure how far the OP is looking to travel to do his live compare-o; I am in NJ (25 miles from the PA boarder) and my setups are in my signature if you are interested to hear tubes and solid side by side. My crystal ball says that you will end up with a tube amp soon if not already! It happens to everyone.

When did the OP change to a kit? I assumed he was buying a finished one? I decided to go ahead and get one already made. Due to a financial emergency, I was forced to buy one from the Bay, and it arrived today, sadly with the on/off switch broken! OYE!!! So I decided to head to RAT Shack to buy a replacement, thing is, while I can do a decent job of solderin, I'm not sure how to wire the new switch. The original was wired like this. One side had a brown wire to fuse, the pin underneath was a black wire to the 120VAC The other side had a black wire to the power supply, and the pin underneath a white wire to the 120VAC. The original switch was a toggle, this one is a slide switch. The original is the one on the left. The ole gut says to wire the same but I really want to make this thing sing tonight, so I figured I'd ask the pros. HELP!!!! If you need help with a dynaco; pose your question on tubes4hifi.com's forum, you'll likely get a response pretty quickly. People there are eager and knowledgeable.

H3's and the Latino St-120 are a fantastic combo. You can go too bright with your tube selection with the H3's. People seem to love running cleartops in the Latino amps, but they were way too bright (for me) with the H3's. I settled on plain jane NOS 12au7 Mullard.

Whoops.. just noticed the post above my previous post (and the previous mention of the Latino amps...) I have the st-120 with the low gain board and it works flawlessly, sounds fantastic. The low gain board can take 12au7,12at7, cv4003, 12bh7, and some other more obscure tubes. You can make it sound bright or dark. You can run kt88s or kt120 main tubes in the st120 and a tube or weber copper cap rectifier. Bob's amps will blow away any Chinese stuff out there, seriously.

I fully agree. Check out Bob Latino's dynaco based amps at www.tubes4hifi.com. Bob's amps are 'hot-rodded' versions of the orignal Dynacos. They are 'tube-roll' friendly, so you can find your preferred sound. They will 100% knock your socks off and dont cost an arm and a leg. I think that his ST70 will all options including Russian pio caps lands at about $1000 built. Bob Latino is the paradigm of customer support, He called me 9:30 am on a Sunday once to answer pre purchase questions that I had emailed 5 minutes prior.

Hello All, Purchased (another) set of H3's second hand that dont have badges, the speakers feel naked: I'm looking for a pair of the PWK 'pie' style emblem/badges. OEM or reproduction. They do not have to be 'correct' for the heresy3, they can be pretty much any pie style badge. Thanks!! James
