  1. Cool. That's good to hear. I have a RC62 now. Like the subwoofer, I'm going to give it a try and see how it works.
  2. And twistedcrankcammer, tell me a story about that screen name.
  3. Thanks for the good info; so nice to have such readily available resources. Re. subwoofer, I already have a SVS PC-Ultra so I think I'll see how that works in the bigger room. Thanks again!
  4. Hi all, So, after finding my bargain on the K'horns and now having them just about ready to go, I've realized (actually kinda knew all along) that the current movie room will not work. So, the wife and I have decided to take over the office/library. This room is 23 x 15 but unfortunately, the only way it works is for the K'horns (as front side speakers in a 7.1 setup) to go into the corners of the long wall. We end up with a viewing distance on our 61" DLP of about 13 feet, which though a bit long, is how we have it now and we like it. My concern is whether I'm spreading the soundstage up front too much. Has anyone had any experience with speaker placement like this? Comments?
  5. I still have a like new set of AKG K340 Hybrid dynamic electrostatic. I've had them for decades but don't use them too often. I do like the sound.
  6. I recently downloaded Senses iPod app and have used it several times with my AKG K340 headphones on a Cute Beyond headphone amplifier. My hearing's shot above 8,000 hz. By shot I mean down at least 30 db from the other tones I can clearly hear. However, as someone mentioned earlier, I can still appreciate a lot of the differences between speakers. But as I've gotten older, I do find I've migrated towards increasingly bright, clear speakers. I'm 61 BTW and used to shoot competitively indoors (yep, always wore hearing protection too) and played in a rock band for about a year. If you have an iPod, it's a very affordable little app and fun to play with. Several of my friends have tried it (can't believe they can hear those tones and I can't).
  7. Regarding Wright, are they still around? Their web site has been down for a couple weeks at least or I have the wrong URL.

  9. One of the tests I did evaluated relative sound sensitivities. About 9,000 hz on up, I was over -30 db. With that kind of fall off, playing the music loudly won't help because it will just be masked by the volume of the audible tones. FWIW, I can still easily tell differences in sound quality between all of my sources and still prefer some of the others for certain music so there is still richness of variety in what's left. It just bothers me that I'm missing so much. Also, one of the tests evaluated timber differences between your ears. I was surprised that the same tone could sound so different from one ear to the other. Anyway, interesting stuff. For you young ones out there, protect your hearing.
  10. Wow. I've downloaded several hearing test apps from the apps Store at Apple. I've been trying them just now on my computer, which has HK Sticks and small sub, but also with my AKG K-340s with Cute Beyond headphone amp. My hearing is just about gone above 8,800 hz. I remember years ago being tested and being able to hear 17,000 hz. I knew I was losing something on the high end, but I had no idea it was that bad.
  11. I just discovered that I actually have something that is apparently a coveted item. I'm the original owner and have had them with my old Luxman system since I bought them. They are mint condition; I even have the little clear plastic slip on cushion covers that they were packed in and still use them. I just recently bought a Cute Beyond headphone amp to use with my iPod touch and have started using them again. I was surprised to see that they have quite the following now. Just curious, I'm not about to sell them, but what are they going for when you can find them?
  12. See if there is a new LED [sic] display in the size you're after
  13. I've recently discovered this genre of music and am really fascinated with it. I've always respected the vocal abilities of operatic sopranos and the instrumental skills of many of the heavy metal bands, but I really did not like opera itself and I didn't like the growling male vocalists in most metal bands. So, I can now listen to two things that I have always respected but never found musically to my liking, combined into a single type of music. I'm hooked. Anyway, I discovered this type of music when I found Nightwish. However, since the singer I really liked, Tarja Turunen has left the band, I've been looking for other similar music. So, this is what I've found so far that is to my liking. If any of you have similar tastes and know of other groups I might like, I'd appreciate hearing about them. Also, here's a link to one a couple of the songs from Nightwish's End of an Era DVD if you've not heard of this type of music. Bands: Nightwish.... Amberian Dawn.... Atargatis..... Edenbridge.... Leaves' Eyes..... Coronatus..... ......and how do you create paragraphs in this composition window anyway? All my text just gets jumbled together?
  14. I think that's a bit steep for that condition. I recently bought a pair of Klipschorns with better cabinets, delivered to my door, for $1,500 (gotta love Craigslist)
  15. FINALLLY!!!! This is the most Gawd-awful board for posting pics that I've visited. Sheeeeesh! I still haven't figured out how to do multiples in the same post so here are two more.
  16. OK, let's see if this gets a picture posted.
  17. So, I posted some time ago that I had picked up a (my first) pair of Klipschorns that needed some TLC. I've finally got around to starting work on them. This is the start. Oh well, so much for posting pics..........
  18. I've been using this one for several months, no complaints. http://www.iogear.com/product/GHDMIAS4/
  19. Hope it's not a repost; pretty insane. http://www.royaldevice.com/custom.htm
  20. I have one of the first Samsung 61" 1080P DLP rear projection (uses projector lamp). I think, bearing large screen size in mind, it's the best image quality you can get for the money. No regrets whatsoever.
  21. Thanks. I believe that's what my friend was saying that there were just going to be some components that should be replaced right from the get-go because of age. Besides, can't go wrong for that price.
  22. Hello, This is my first post. I just grabbed a pair of sequential serial number Klipschorns, delivered to my house for $1,500. The cabinets will definitely need some TLC refinishing. I did not have a way of listening to them in any critical way but they're at least working. From the serial numbers, they are apparently 1979 vintage. They have a type AA crossover, and the K55V midrange horn. I couldn't see the tweeter to tell anything about it and didn't open anything up to look at the woofer. One of my friends looking at the crossover thought that, given the age, their performance might be marginal. I've read about cross over upgrades but am not really that technical and am looking for advice as to what might be best for this year and type speaker, please be specific; I've visited some of the websites but can't decipher the details. My two uses will be music listening, all types, and home theater. I currently have Klipsch front, center and rears now, with SVS sub. I will move the current fronts to the rear, the rears to the side and the K'horns will become the two front speakers. Suggestions getting these all set for the next 20 years will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. EDIT: ...and I do like to rattle the walls most of the time
