  1. After seeing what you are up to, a endorsement from you is saying quite a bit!
  2. TD 124 &SME?Legendary turntable & arm combo, worth doing whatever is needed to enjoy it again. Garymd, Technics, Denon and a few select others, are in a class of their own, when it comes to some of their Direct Drive models. Perhaps these are models you haven't experienced yet(but should). While the Technics arm is not perfect, it is much better than the one on that Yammie. That said, given only the two choices I would revive the Yamaha, not because it is belt over direct and not because of the Radio Shack name, but the Yamaha is the better built model over all, in my experience, which includes both models.
  3. http://www.tweaktv.com Anyone try it out? I have recently used a calibration disc, but am going to compare the settings from this site, to see if, first I got close and second to see if their settings are any better.
  4. Sorry to be late arriving, but I agree with all the above. New belt $8, new cart and styli $45 and up, would sooner put that money towards a Technics in the SL or if you are lucky SP series, Mk II's and beyond.
  5. From what I understand, this place is the stuff of dreams, even over PEAK Audio. Vintage tubes and Altecs in a Cafe! http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=2622+Agricola+Street&sll=44.652536,-63.592987&sspn=0.198318,0.308647&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=2622+Agricola+St,+Halifax,+Halifax+County,+Nova+Scotia&ll=44.655833,-63.594189&spn=0.012394,0.01929&z=16&layer=c&cbll=44.655746,-63.594091&panoid=Oc_qO9JVxc6jpm89wTdMVw&cbp=12,237.92,,1,-1.48 View Larger Map" mce_src=" View Larger Map" alt="" border="" hspace="" vspace="" width="" height="" align="top" />
  6. My guess is, along with the ongoing cheapening for the "good enough for less" crowd, as well as flat panel tv's do not allow for the enclosure to double as space for proper sized speakers and the air space within, used to create a fuller sound. However, even with my last CRT, while the internal speakers were quite good and even had licenced a BBE circuit, the output line from it was so noisy, it rendered it useless to chain through. Now on my new Samsung LCD, while they have decent RCA outputs to connect to my pre, it doesn't do variable out, so I can't control the volume with my TV remote and last I checked a remote for the McIntosh C26, will never exist.
  7. You mean you couldn't hear it over there last night?LOL Actually, after the setup and running it through it's paces, we brought the volume down to human levels and that was just as impressive. A real presence, soundstage, natural sound, unrivaled clarity and range for a P.A. going on, just ran the Klipsch last night and provided better coverage than all the rest. Boy those tops can tear a head off, when you give 'em some juice though!LOL Need a bit more power in the rack(and the building), before I can fully run the new and improved "wall 'o sound". Now that we have christened them with a movie, need to work on getting a great live band running through them, then we'll see how they handle this DJ.
  8. Sheeeeeet! If I could get even one scantily clad young asian woman to come over I'd be happy, watching a different kind of movie and too busy to post here! Perhaps if I owned one of the cars in the last shot, my odds would improve!
  9. Don't worry I'll be starting my Canadian Klipsch therapy program soon and have my fellow Canuck hearing properly again in no time!
  10. More pics to come, tonight's Enter The Dragon screening. THANK YOU ALL!
  11. Pictures to follow. UPS had a fist sized hole in one of the boxes(sound familiar?), but it would take something mighty to hurt these beasts. Gonna warm everything up and then have a screening of Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon to christen them in one of their new homes. Thank you Mike Robin and all who have helped and advised me up to this point. YIPPIE!
  12. Don't trouble on my account, as Klipsch related purchases, have me running slightly over budget at the moment. I have a feeling this microscope is not like the ones my friends used to steal from high school. That's right geeks could be thieves too! Who steals microscopes????
  13. Yup, I have those KP 3002's and 4002's sitting 20 minutes away and yet, won't be here until Monday at best, even though they cleared customs. Guess Mike took my advice and didn't stuff the cabinets with "goodie bags".
  14. Dunno what it's worth, but I want it! Using a cheap USB mono one to check styli in the store and stere-airi-o would be a step up.
  15. Honestly the biggest upgrade you could make to what you have currently would be(potentialy) the least expensive. I agree HK + Heresy's is a great match. Your turntable, along with the somewhat unique dynamic servo, tonarm, is responsible for some of the best playback I have had the joy of hearing and using, which is tall praise coming from a Technics fan boy. I would either invest in a Denon 103 cart/stylus or higher if you can afford or a Shure V 15 III or IV. Both of these love that table, the Shure on there, tracks the Telarc 1812, which is no small feat. I have a multitude of different cart/styli, mounted onspare headshells for that deck, and while I have found it tricky to get the counterbalance just right(no indicator and arm doesn't allow for traditional scale), figure out the anti-skate & dampening, once dialed in, it is a amazing turntable. However, NOS V15 styli use a material that is degrading as we speak, so careful research or a private message to me is required to source a 3rd party that matches original specs. Yes, I am a vinyl guy through and through, but that Audio Technica, while not horrible by any means, is the weak link and the easiest upgrade, with the biggest improvement, IMHO.
  16. I run across this often, but really must learn to shut up, as I am often the one that is talking about how great they are, making the competition for local used, more difficult.
  17. Oh happy day! I think I found the problem and it's not what I thought. Removed the crossover from the chain and ran bass bins full range to see if I could hear any damage to the coil. Ran for a few minutes, from low up to regular levels and then from the corner of my eye...SMOKE! Why am I happy to see more smoke? 'Cause when I looked this time, I saw the smoke was not coming from the speaker, but a bad splice! Was just arcin' and burning up, when there was higher power, lucky I didn't pooch the QSC or the driver in the process, but think that may be to blame for cooking my TOA 15" a month ago. Solder or for that matter, brand new cables are a hell of alot cheaper than new drivers! Lesson learned, but I'm still not gonna buy that crossover, it's cursed!LOL Thank you all who tried to help or at least made me laugh during these dark hours. Now, on to getting those 3002's and 4002's here and running!
  18. Jacksonbart, Thanks for the helpful "Links"...yummy! Some may think you are a clown and I do too, but I like clowns and have been known to do a little "red nose", useless humor/comments as well. Top notch![bs] Michael Hurd, Much more useful info, which is normal for a fellow Canuck and I truly hope you are correct. I'll keep everyone updated. At least it wasn't with any Klipsch products! I think I'll pass on that BSS FDS 360 crossover though, probably not the cause, but don't think I can ever look at that unit again without starting to cry.
  19. Trying out a BSS 360 crossover that I was thinking of buying, on my 2 Yorkville 18's, rated for 800w each, max program. Running through a frequency sweep, at what I thought were levels well within safety, as well as the bins having circuit breakers(lol). Sweep hits a little lower than most, dropping down to 25hz, which rippled through, fast and loud(er), causing smoke to start curling out of the back. Am I correct in assuming that these are done for?
  20. Love my KG 4's as well and you are right this forum is fantastic for info and friendship, shared by the love of music and the desire to have it sound as good as possible.
