  1. am buying my first X5 and have to decide on my first good quality sounding ipod too (considering new sony x series or existing s series...also creative labs x-fi series, sandisk fuse, cowon S9, even the new Zune HD in Sept) ...looking for a really good sounding ipod basically to match with the X5 phones ...on ''anything but ipod'' when i posed this question on some ipod suggestions to match i got the following response (prof thump...can you help out here, please?) ''The Klipsch X5 is 50 ohms, 110 db. efficiency, so you should choose a player with a high power output. Some of the lower power players, such as some models from Sony or Sandisk seem to work best with low impedence earphones or headphones. My Samdisk Fuze and Clip seem to work best with 16 ohm earphones, and don't work so well with headphones or earphones over 32 ohms. Have you considered the Cowon D2+? It puts out plenty of power, has a SDHC card slot, and is stated as having 52 hour battery life. A 16 GB one is around $150. The Cowon S9 is also very popular. It has a larger screen than the D2+, and is better for video than the D2+. Some of the Samsung models also put out plenty of power. Sandisk and Sony players would probably not be the best to use with a 50 ohm earphone, as they tend not to put out so much power, and would work much better with an efficient 16 ohm earphone. ..'' reply: #7 Today, 07:07 AM JK98 Ultra Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2008 Posts: 1,148 No Classifed Ratings While I don't have a Klipsch X5, I do have other headphones that are 63 ohms and 106 efficiency, and 60 ohms and 101 db effeciency, and they don't work nearly as well with my Clip as my 16 ohm earphones(108 db efficiency) and 32 ohm headphones(102 db efficiency). Have you tried the Clip with some lower impedance headphones and earphones for comparison? While for example the Clip does play with my Sony V6 headphones(63 ohms 106 efficiency), the Clip sound much better with lower impedance headphones, and the V6 sounds much better with a player with a higher power output. My clip sounds great with my Sony E888 earphones(16 ohms 108 db efficiency). "Also my X10's can be driven by any player I use. ' Are they at their best with a lower powered player though? I didn't say they wouldn't work with a lower powered player, only that they would probably work much better with a higher powered player. Have you done a comparison using the earphones with A Cowon D2+ or S9 and compared it to how it performs with the Clip? With the tests I did using my Clip and Fuze and a few of my headphones, I noticed a consistant theme that the Clip and Fuze worked much better with lower impedance headphones or earphones, with the Clip working best with my 16 ohm earphones. "Tried them on with a Clip and Sony NW-HD5 Both went up to louder then nessisary levels." How about the sound quality though compared to using the earphone with a higher powered source?
