Well, you could start by looking at the places that waited too long, and compare them to the places that didn’t. There is no doubt as to how how bad it could have been.

Wuhan was on lockdown for 76 days. They are now getting ready to lockdown Hubei.

Do you mean Suifenhe City in the Province of Heilongjiang (SE China)? I've seen nothing about shutting down their Province of Hubei where the city of Wuhan is situated. What I've read on-line today is that people are fleeing from Wuhan like fleeing is going out of style!

We usually only do a few herbs and one tomato plant in pots on our raised deck. I hope we can buy plants this year. @NADman, we are forecast to get 2.5 inches of snow tomorrow, I feel your pain! I sure hope this is the last week of snow, it is very late this year here.

I just got in from picking, smashing and shoveling the ice pack that's been residing below my driveway for the last several months and all along the front of the house to the city sewer. I'm all set for tomorrow's blast. ☃️

    Hello, all -

Hope you're all staying safe during this crazy time. I have a quick question regarding Heritage speakers.

I remember back in the day if you ordered a pair of higher end speakers, such as the La Scala and Klipsch models, they were built to order and it would typically take 6-8 weeks to have a pair produced from the time you ordered. Is this still the case? Are these speakers still built to order?

I ask because I'm thinking about ordering a pair of Klipschorn or La Scala speakers sometime this year, but wondering if it's even a possibility in the current environment, as I can only assume the factories are closed (as they should be).

    Thanks in advance.

Too bad you can't custom order a pair made with Baltic Birch and the veneer of your choice (not so limited). I'd be a buyer.

Well a couple months ago when the wife was so sick and went to the doctor she was tested for the flu and was negative, so they gave her steroids and antibiotics and she got past it a couple weeks later, slowly at least over a few weeks. At that time they did give her the flu shot. We think she had the virus but no way of knowing except all the symptoms were exactly the same, she now has an oxygen machine to breath with when she sleeps. I was also sick for 2-4 days and got past it fast, but she is always worse with anything going around having auto immune deficiency. She is doing much better now.

We really think we have already had it, maby,  but still not taking any chances. I have never had a flu shot and had the flu once or twice in my life

Serology testing should be coming shortly and that will determine who has antibodies and whom does not. The reason to get a flu shot now is symptoms can be close to those related to the Wuhan Virus and to keep you from catching this season's flu strain(s). It should also keep you the heck away from over-crowded and busy ER's, less than plentiful hospital beds and contributes to herd immunity.

Your potentially mild case of the flu can kill someone exposed to you who has not been vaccinated because they are immune compromised and could not get the shot for this legitimate reason.

I’ve literally had to tackle my wife from going to see a Grandson. She spent a lot of time making him something for his room and I said I understand, we can take it there, hand-it off, talk at a distance outside and leave. He will still be there in a few weeks —

Getting between my wife (who is a retired medical professional and had to be tested for virus early on as she had a number of the symptoms) and her first grandchild, now two months old is like getting between a mother Grizzly and her cub.

Yes, everyone has PC's and phones here too. Logic goes out the window, but I still keep my distance.

Influenza death statistics involve 10’s of millions of documented cases so the fatality rate is far less than covid19. If we should see the same number of covid19  cases as we do the flu we’d probably have close to - if not more - 1 million deaths.

So can we dismiss comparing this to the flu?

Except to say: If you did not get your annual flu shot last fall, get it now if you can.

  8. Sadly, in spite of our relatively recent history which includes the Spanish Flu, Polio, SARS, Ebola, MERS, etc., most medical schools no longer teach anymore the histories of Edward Jenner, Sabin and Salk. Nor do they teach about Banting, Best and the other researchers that developed insulin and then sold the patent for $1.

    This needs to change!

There are some states in the US, and some countries around the world, that is still not locking down, I posted about this a few days ago. They very well might be okay if they keep strict measures to not get contaminated. It will be interesting and I am glad they are trying it. A lot of lessons to be learned and a lot of variables to plug into the equations. Will distancing, good hygiene, stop shaking hands, stop blowing their freaking noses at the supper table and wash hands after said nose is blown and every before leaving the RR really work? Having said that, I doubt it will turn out very different that other states due to people not taking the right measures to avoid it. Then there are t he delays that a lot of people who don't seem to understand.

I believe nothing about China. In the years to come, there will be documentaries to watch on the History Channel, then we might get to see some of what happened.

Touching back on what I meant to say: There are reports that doctors are having to follow guidelines that are unusual in the death reports. Some doctors are saying that they have to report a death was due to CV19, even if that person wasn't tested. I don't know if this is true or more fake news and only time will tell. The next thing is the sites I use to check numbers are mostly, if not all, are getting their numbers from the same sources (CDC, WHO,...).

Look here if you want to know how a potentially deadly pandemic with no available vaccine or provenly successful treatment is available:

It would be great if we can trade ideas on a successful garden in your thread, and, though related, keep the why over here.

Check the other thread. I'm sure that there are people with green thumbs that will post recommendations. There is also the Old Farmers Almanac, online Youtube and other sources written by knowledgeable persons for do it yourselfers.

I have a brown thumb, that I know. Can you grow veggies in a raised wooden planter? Seems they are for sale. Plans for DIY? I have an acre of yard (maybe 1/2 or more in the back) but it is all sand and dogs / gophers / varmints. Segregate plants? Again I be stuupid.

Reading the great googlie mooglie searches.

My suggestion is to purchase the 2020 version of the Old Farmers Almanac. It is split into geographic zones and has all kind of information on what, how and when to plant. You should be able to grow almost anything at your elevation given decent soil and varmint control.

  13. I can grown garlic and herbs easily at my latitude of 51 degrees North and 4,025 feet of elevation. The problem is the short growing season here which does not commence until late May (due to the risk of frost at night). I'm considering focusing on root vegetables like carrots, onions, potatoes, radishes, etc. if I just decide to plant into a ground level garden. If I go with raised beds and ensure that I have a moat filled with water around each row of my plantings I believe I can extend my growing season by a couple of weeks at minimum.

I should have garlic to barter, if this becomes necessary, but I hope things don't come down to that. I will NOT buy food sourced from China and do not knowingly buy anything else from there anymore.

Mold and mildew after a hurricane in the hotter part of N. America where these primarily occur may not be avoidable. You can proactively take actions to personally avoid this virus: isolate at home as much as practicable, wear a mask when you absolutely have to go out (N95 works best), keep a good distance between yourself and others, wear disposable gloves too if/when required, wash your hands constantly, avoid touching your face, etc.

No actually the numbers here in the USA are not accurate. The people dying are those with underlying causes for over 95% of deaths. They are however being reported as Wuhan Virus deaths and not as a combination of serious pre-existing conditions + Wuhan virus. But see the very same thing is true with the Flu which also hits this same exact group hardest and killed over 61,000 here in the USA TWO YEARS AGO! There is so much complete obfuscation by media over all this it beggars the imagination. You come down with this get your Doctor to prescribe some T Pills and be on the road quickly to recovery.

Officially, and practically, you catch this virus and subsequently pass away while infected you have indeed died from the virus with underlying health issues being a contributory factor. It's a 'but for the fact' issue.

Reportedly African Americans are dying disproportionately after getting infected. This reflects the high incidence of underlying health issues in this community of diabetes and heart ailments,  etc.

If this is considered *too political* please say so, and I'll refrain.

There have been quite a few posts here about China's numbers being kept low by the Communist Party. Some other authoritarian states are doing the same. This is probably accurate. Time will tell... or not.

However, can we rely on the numbers of so-called free, open, democratic countries, of which the US is the role-model? I'd say: be careful with that.

    1) The people of the US seem to be blinded by the media mis-reporting the facts and by false narrative (see quote above)

    2) In my country, Belgium, the government only counted the dead in hospitals. We've reached +2000 now. But yesterday, it became clear that the numbers of the dead in 'resting homes for the elderly' were not included. There, almost 700 deads occurred. These numbers were hidden from the public (they say they weren't reported) and the caretakers were not provided with masks and safety clothing, no testing was done up to yesterday. The government was forced to publish these numbers, only after numerous accounts by caretakers of horrible situations (in some homes up to 40% of the population was covid-positive) were published in the  press. Belgian politicians would have preferred to 'hide these numbers under the carpet'. (Note: the average price for staying in a home like that is €1900 per month).

    3) My government meekly follows the instructions and the norms of the WHO, whose official standpoint is that wearing a mask is useless. The WHO has been criticized here in this forum, and I would love to learn more about the arguments for that, because here in Belgium, we are unaware of this, and independent journalists don't report on this.

The great famine in China of 1959 through 1961 was reported by the Chinese Communist Party to have resulted in one million deaths. The actual number is approximately 45 million deaths. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Chinese_Famine

This closely reflects Stalin's great lie on the number of deaths in the Ukraine in the early 1930's after he had the Soviet Union's communist party seize the food crops there and force collectivized farms. It resulted in the deaths of  approximately 10 million Ukrainians as is called the Holodormor today. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor

The numbers of those currently infected worldwide by the Wuhan Virus, including in the western world, are approximately 14 days behind as this is the average number of days that those infected commence showing symptoms and test positive. I used to do Numerical Simulation in a past life and these are the type of models used for projections of this virus today (also for Climate Models). The current death rate is an average of 4.8%. See: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/?utm_campaign=homeAdvegas1?

WRT the WHO, for the first time ever it is being run by a non MD as Director General (Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus a member of the Communist Party of Ethiopia and former Foreign Minister of Ethiopia with a PHD in Community Health). He was supported by China and the African Union (for Director General in 2017 over the candidate from the UK) and has consistently mishandled the current pandemic, puppeting the Chinese Party's lies regarding the seriousness of this virus, going so far as to claim that human-to-human transmission was not possible early on . His previous claim to fame in this role was to appoint Robert Mugabe in 2017 as 'Goodwill Ambassador' for the WHO. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tedros_Adhanom

Given the above, the US is reviewing their ongoing financial support of the WHO as of yesterday. This support amounts to approximately 23% of the WHO's $250,000,000 budget and reflects just the 'assessed' number. Canada contributes between 2 and 3%, Belgium 0.8% and China ~ 11.6% (kind of disportionate isn't it?). Private individuals, like the Gates foundation and others have also donated millions of their own foundation dollars to the WHO. See: https://www.who.int/about/finances-accountability/funding/AC_Status_Report_2020.pdf?ua=1

    Hello all

i opened the bass bin of my khorn 1971. I suppose no one ever did that because the gaskets both of the bass bin cover as well as the motor board look melted and created this sort of sticky tar like material. It took a wile just to open the bin as the cover was completely stuck. With a putty knife slowly I achieved to open them.

im replacing the k-33P woofers with the Crites cast ones but I need to clean out that stuff And replace the gaskets. I’m not sure what product to use. Mineral spirit? Gasoline? It’s really messy and sticky!
    Any suggestion?

if i get it, chances are that it will take me. i don’t mind dying alone. at least i’d have the peace of mind knowing that i wasn’t spreading it to my loved ones ... although living in the same house, chances are that they’d already been exposed. My kids all live far away ... i would tell them NOT to come up here.

i already told my brother that if i got it and it got to the point of me having to go to the hospital, NO VENTILATOR.  I will either live or die without it. if it gets that bad, then just let my clock run out.

"No Ventilator": I suspect that you've never been in an ICU gasping for air like a fish out of water? Trust me, if that horrible day ever comes you are very much going to want a ventilator. If unable to give informed consent you are going to hope that there is one available and that they hook you up.

Reality is very much dependent on circumstances.
