  1. Where's Ted Nugent when you really need him? These heavy caliber speakers would be right up his alley.
  2. Used to get most of the caffeine from one can of Coca-Cola (non-Corn Syrup elixir). I'm in process of mostly changing over to Hansen's Natural Cola which is made from Kola Nuts and Cane Sugar. More money by far per oz than Coke's product but also, per Hansen's, no weird chemicals or preservatives.
  3. Digging through a stash I discovered of Klipsch K-77 Tweeters (of exactly 3 - 2 have square driver 'M's, 1 round Alinco I think ). I'm getting measured values of respectively: 5.9, 6.0 and 6.6. I've read Bob Crites' mention that a reading of ~6.0 Ohms is a good thing. Bob says nothing about what degree of accuracy to expect. The round K-77 must of come from my old Cornwall's, the square K-77-M's are the original pair from my 1982 Belles which were replaced with CT-125 tweeters I purchased from Bob C.. If I decide to sell these can I safely assume the above values are close enough to 6.0 and that resistance values in this range reflect good testing diaphragms only?
  4. As an incrementalist, I do this with every actual change/update of my audio system. When a couple of tin eared women out of the three living in the house as my lab rats. Started doing this with vacuum tube changes to power amps, pre-amp, etc. If they, after being subjected to intense hours of involuntary listening comment that I done something that they can both hear and like that they didn't hear previously I know I've got a subject vote of approval. On the other hand, all things being equal, if they say 'shut that god-damn noise off!', it is time to rethink my latest change. 'Turn it down' is generally an expression of no real notice around hear. Wb
  5. FYI I don't have a dog in this fight. I've never done business with DeanG, I'm not sure I've even heard upgraded networks. I just wanted to say on a personal level Dean, that honesty and transparency go a long way in my world, and I appreciate what you wrote, and the way you wrote it. I would do business with you any day of the week, and twice on Sunday. You're OK in my book. If you live long enough you screw things up (sometimes royally). It happens eventually to virtually all of us. The above catharsis is what you do only (at least in my experience) after considerable inner reflection. Been there, done that.
  6. kg4guy, Did you get in anymore time listening to these? I may have to replace my CT-125's as I've changed out the XO's. Wb
  7. I always thought Proper englishman drink "Real Tea" but then again= I'm certainly no proper Englishman but I do prefer black Indian or Ceylon tea like one. So it kind of counts.
  8. MKP, Nasty storm blowing in here tonight (western Alberta). I suspect we will be waking up to about an inch of snow in the morning. Pretty glad to have washed, polished and waxed the car last weekend as it will have to get back to bed for the annual coming of 8 months of winter soon. Wb
  9. Everyone here gets a break and not just for the 1st offence. Little to no chance of getting shot by a homeowner for making like Goldilocks.
  10. Would she have to add one or just give him yours?
  11. You drink Decaf tea ? Indeed. After dinner tea (C02 decaf): http://www.murchies.com/store/tea/ceylon-decaf.html Poison I occasionally consume after a 2 minute brew: http://www.murchies.com/store/tea/darjeeling-estate-tea.html
  12. I drink hot tea like a proper Englishman. It warms you up when you are cold and cools you down when you're feeling over heated. As to coffee? Smells good but I never touch the stuff as just like tobacco its addictive and the caffiene is a psychoactive (the most widely used psychoactive drug).
  13. I own a tube tester, or two, and have tested thousands of tubes for matching purposes mostly with a friend's Amplitrex AT-1000 (he sold significant numbers of audio tubes but he passed away last year). Before purchasing the 1st tester I bought for my own use I should have read Alan Douglas' book 'Tube Testers and Classic Electronic Test Gear'. After reading Alan's book I purchased a couple of tube testers from him that are pretty hard to find today as most businesses that sell tubes acquire these and keep them forever. If you have lots of tube equipment and lots, and lots of tubes it makes sense to purchase a good quality tester, if not find someone with a quality tester and either have them test for you or show you how.
  14. I exchanged email with Bob a few years back WRT his tube amp warranty. They come with a Life Time Warranty. That being his life time. Yes, he is indeed a gentleman and great audio designer.
  15. I would not use bondo. System 3 makes products that can repair and or replace anything made of wood and can be subsequently shaped or carved. Once it is dry it can be sanded, veneered, etc.. It is sold on Amazon as well as most home supply stores. It will last longer than the original wood it replaces and you can paint it, nail into it and put screws in it just like real wood. Google System 3 to see if it will bond with MDF. You can call their tech line with questions
  16. I have a pair of 1982 Belles. Two plus years ago they replaced the 1979 Cornwalls I used to rock with at high volumes (now listening to mostly blues, jazz and a lot less RnR). I asked essentially the same question as you here a couple of years back. What I ended doing was purchase new CT-125 tweeters and Type A/4500 XO's from BEC ran those happily for a couple of years until yesterday when I replaced Bob's XO's with Type AA XO's that were built by Dean G (got them 2nd Hand off the EE here). You can't go wrong with either Bob's or Dean's XO's IMHO. Bob's are true to the original Klipsch XO's designed by PWK. I'll will be able to speak with more of an informed opinion on Dean's XO's after I've got in more listening time (in a couple of weeks) but the sound so far is certainly good to my ears.
  17. Sorry but I already flushed your comment. Gone and forgotten and just as dead as little Johnny Rotten! Um... John Lydon is still alive. :Jesuseffingfacepalm: Up and staggering around like Neil Young isn't living. At least in my book.
  18. Just seeing this now. Incredible that they could do this much damage short of having a single 98lb weakling moving and dropping them. It is the shipping company's obligation under the contract to perform the pickup, move and delivery in a good and workman like manner. Apparently UPS did not do so here!
  19. Sorry but I already flushed your comment. Gone and forgotten and just as dead as little Johnny Rotten!
  20. Especially so when amplifying with vacuum tubes.
  21. Investing cash on any of the latest cast of ***-clowns running to stick it to the voter is the equivalent of flushing your hard earned money down the crapper... without the satisfaction of actually hearing the sound of water flushing!
  22. Wood grain looks like oak to me. Could be Ash except I doubt Klipsch ever used Ash. Wb
  23. I use a couple of DAC's in different systems for music off my pc with the option for tube output or solid state. I tend to prefer the tube output over solid state on both particularly with certain tubes. Dutch made Amperex ECC88 pinched waist tubes are by far the best sounding tube in my favorite of the two Tube DAC's and the best part is I only paid ~ $15 for the tube which is now pretty much unobtainium for less than your 1st born child.
  24. Working closest to the barrier strip side I did the mirror image of what was posted above on the 1st speaker (i.e. to be the same connections as my Crites A/4500 XO's are labeled) for a quick test and it's sounding absolutely right. Now I have to decide if I'll dig out my original K77's to replace the BEC CT-125's or just leave them in. Tweeter swap back is probably not a big issue pushing my 45 SET Amp at 1/4 volume. I left the Crites XO's in for the test as I had 2-sided-taped them down when I installed them. I'll dig out one of the girls hair blow-dryers to loosen up the old tape before I gently pry them loose. Thanks, I'll PM you my US address when we leave the colder north for some fall/winter sun this year.
