  1. I replaced the wires in my 2.1's too and I think it sounds a lot better. I used the same mono plugs from radio shack and it pissed me off cause my fat monster cable wouldn't fit in the plugs!!!! So I got stuck using regular crappy 16 gauge wire. boo hoo. Well, although it's not monster cable (which I love immensely), it's still better. I suppose I do have very picky ears, so I really hated the stock wire. That wire was just pitiful. How can it let an real current through when you have the pro's cranked??? Well, I'm going to keep trying with my monster cable, but it's still a great improvement with the 16 gauge wire.
  2. This place is messed up! nitrada.com Rammstein likes that web site.
  3. Can both the wires that go to the control pod fit into the tube of the radio shack stands? And if they both fit, how long is the DIN wire sticking out from the bottom of the stand? Basically what I want to know is how far away from the speaker stand can I put the sub if the DIN wire goes through the tube?
  4. So how well do those radio shack stands work? They look kinda cheap. Are they? Can both the wires going to the pro's control pod fit in the tubing? If both the wires do fit, how much of the DIN wire sticks out to go to the sub?
  5. It might just be the fact that you are using Win 2000 or try this... Defragment your hard drive, then change your virtual memory settings to this: specify your own settings, then set the minimum and the maximum to the same size like 256 mb. 128 megs would be alright too i guess, but not as good. You have to make sure you that you defragment your drive first though, then restart, then change the vitual mem settings, and then restart again. If you don't do that it won't work out quite as well. What this does is places your swap file all in one chunk instead of having little bits and pieces of virtual mem all over your hard drive. This makes it so that windows only has to go to one place on your drive to access vitrual mem, instead of having to search all over your drive to the all the little places that win would have stuck your swap file if it was in control of it. Hope that fixes your problem or at least helps a little.
  6. Well, I use both progs. I used to like WinDVD a lot better, but now I ussually use PowerDVD. Why? I used to not have a good soundcard and now I have a 5.1 channel santa cruz. I've been trying both progs back and forth to test the sound and everything else. Powerdvd is alot easier to use if you get a good skin and it has alot of the tweaks readily available right in the program. You don't need an extra prog like DVD Genie or the WinDVD tweaker prog. I used to think that Windvd had better sound and video, but now it's the opposite. But I think it really all depends on your hardware. With my old soundcard and using Powerdvd the sound got messed up when I had my voodoo 3 hooked up, but it sounded fine when I used my ATI. And Windvd worked great. Weird huh? Well, now that I have good sound hardware I look more at the video quality. Voodoo 3's suck for dvd, but Power dvd looks halfway decent with it and WinDVD just doesn't cut it anymore. With my ATI video card, which has motion compensation (DVD acceleration), I preferred WinDVD. Also an interesting thing... PowerDVD only uses 5.1 Dobly digital when it plays the actual movie, but WinDVD has 5.1 on all the time. I found that to be really weird. I'm going to have check into that a little more because maybe WinDVD is just playing matrixed surround instead of discrete surround. Anyway, I hope that helped. Oh yeah, you want to try out different software dvd players? Go to DVD Digest They probably still have links to some full progs there. They also have reviews on about 10 different players. Check them out!
  7. well, I tend to kill any kind of speakers I have unless I made them. Speakers just aren't made to take my abuse these days. So a warrenty is pretty important.
  8. Does it beat the p4 1.5 gig? Nevermind, it probably does.
  9. Sweet, another satisfied customer.
  10. Hey asudhir, the only Dells that are not upgradable, there are very few, are the cheap ones that are meant to compete with other cheap companies like Compaq and HP. Dell never even had any computers like that until less than 1/2 a year ago. Just wanted to set that straight. But yeah, Compaqs are the biggest bitchs to upgrade. Everything is on the motherboard and that's not a good thing. HP is the same way, everything is on the motherboard, but in my opinion their computers are much nicer and easier to work with. Plus I believe HP is more reliable with better customer support. I'm speaking from experience here. I own a Compaq and I hate everything about it. I could go on and on about it, but I won't. My ex has a HP and I always used her's. She moved twice when I knew her and I set it up both times and I had no problems at all. I actually liked using the computer a lot. I should've just taken it from her...
  11. Do you have a 4 channel sound card? If so get PowerDVD it decodes dolby digital. It will downmix to 4 channels and it has large speaker support. Otherwise get a good sound card (santa cruz or phillips) and PowerDVD and it will work fine. I'd go with the santa cruz. You don't really need a hardware decoder.
  12. If I keep on using my pro sats this will help me a lot, but I will probably get different sats. But guess waht? I've got about 40 ft of Monster Cable from my old HT setup so I'm going to use that. That should produce a kick azz sound!
  13. Component video is better than s-video. It basically is 3 RCA cables transmitting one color per cable. This makes the picture quality much better, but you'll only find this kind of connection on really good tvs. S-video splitts the color into 2 and the regular RCA video out has all the color mixed in together.
  14. Fedex ships them. It might take longer because your exchanging them instead of just orderin them. Give Klipsch a call if you don't get them in a day or two.
  15. They don't have Dell at Circuit City. I wish they had Micron cause then I'd tell you to get one of those, but they don't have those, Best Buy does. I'd say get another Sony or a Hewlett Packard.
  16. It's all good. You can take the thing off anytime you want. No harm done. I was actually planning on taking the pod off my 2.1's so I could mount it on the edge underneath my desk.
  17. DO NOT GET A COMPAQ!!!!!! Compaqs do not work well, and they date very badly. Everything on them is proprietary and does not take too nicely to hardware upgrades. I've had the biggest problems with my compaq and if it wasn't for the fact that I got this thing for free, I would not have it. If you want something like a compaq, get a HP. They are halfway decent, not great but still better than compaq.
  18. I was going to buy a pair of Quintets on ebay, but someone on this BB said that I won't get a warranty with them. Does anybody know if this is true or not?
  19. My personal favorite speakers are NHT. They are exactly what they advertise... The best speaker for the money, Better than others costing thousands more. NHT's are great for HT and they rule for music. Now I just wish I had more NHT speakers... I don't really think Klipsch are that good at music, but they are great for movies.
  20. It will work fine with the pro's. The 5.1 just has analog 5.1 channel outputs for dolvy digital. I think it has a different digital output too. but you're fine with your soundcard.
  21. I'm still chillin' here with my pII 400. I'm happy with even though it's a compaq, I can't complain, I got it for free. This thing is hot! I'd rather have a 1200 amd....
  22. You can get just a pair of Quintets on ebay. People have them all over the place for around $100.
  23. Well, Musically there are speakers that are better than Klipsch, but not when it comes to home theater. I've tried a lot of other brands like Polk, Infinity, JBL, Bose, BIC, AR, NHT, and Cerwin Vega. The only brands I'd even consider of those brands anymore are Polk and NHT. NHT is my favorite, but they are too expensive otherwise I'd have a pair of superseros right now. Those are beautiful small speakers. I figured the Quintets would be good SMALL replacments for my pro sats, but right now I'm thinking of not keeping my pro's. I think I'd be better off just going back to a dolby digital receiver. It'd probably be less of a hassle, but it would take up a lot more room.
  24. The 2.1's has 130 watts driving the sub.
