  1. Excellent work. I went with Natural Danish oil on my Sapele LaScalas. .
  2. http://assets.klipsch.com/product-specsheets/KPT-JUBILEE535-B-Data-Sheet-v05.pdf
  3. Rosewood Lascalas are going to be nice. Here's how I did mine. If you ever want to take your 4Runner through the Rubicon let me know.
  4. Yep, it's cliquey here, and every other forum on the net. This one is very tame compared to others. That's what it's all about. Throwing out opinions and looking for information. Post your knowledge, back it up, and don't retreat to your safe space. The other option is going to facebook where everyone will just tell you how neat your speakers are. I love forums and they still are the go to for real tech and information.
  5. I've also been looking at the 5200. My journey has taken me through many AVR's, Rotel separates, and now to integrated. Simple. Bass and Treble. If you can't make it sound right with that it's the speakers or the room. I'm not in the camp of "pairing" power and speakers. Quality power is essential but the speaker is the dominant variable. I've diverted my attention from the 5200 to the Yamaha A-S1100. I'm running an 801 now which works perfect. My tone controls are damn near flat. http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/hifi-components/amps/a-s1100_g/?mode=model
  6. LaScala 10 RF7 8 RF82II 3 Klipsch got a lot of speakers "right". The RF82II is not one of them. The pair I had only lasted 3 days before they were out of rotation and sold. Thin, harsh, and weak. My RB5's kill them in sound quality. Side by side with both Rotel and Yamaha. With the new RF7III coming out the 2's should come down. RP-280F is getting some great reviews.
  7. Maybe 8x1.25, but definitely not 6x1
  8. I can almost guarantee they're 1/4-20. Pretty much standard for that type of thing. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/search/?query=bed+leg
  9. That's beautiful. I'm also a fan of the early RF series. I have the same RB5"s from new.
  10. Nice to see a pair that was taken care of.
  11. I've been watching this thread from the beginning and I think it's the room.I think you're getting a lot of echoing and cancellation in the lower mid section. In the A/B video, the LaScalas do sound better. I believe that with some nice, white, sound absorption panels, things would be different. I've owned 3 pairs of LaScalas (original), and the only time they sounded "right" was at higher levels with a lot of sub. They're fun and look cool. I found that 95% of the time I used the main system it was at lower volumes. For critical listening, I've moved over to conventional bookshelves with dome tweets that can handle some noise when needed. I have abandoned separates and Audyssey. 2 channel integrated with bass and treble only. Find the right speakers and you can run it almost flat. I ran over the thread a few times and maybe didn't notice if you had changed your source completely. Grab that old receiver in the extra bedroom and hook it up to your phone or and old cd player. Run that and if it doesn't sound great, it's the speakers or the room. Not the networks.
  12. Been watching the thread from the beginning. Congrats on getting those monsters to your place with no damage. When do we get the full installed pics?
  13. I've had my eyes on these for a while. If they were closer they would be mine. https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ele/5926714066.html I have the RB5 bookshelves and will never sell them. Original, made in the USA reference will always hold their value. These look clean.
  14. The Heresy is the speaker you had in your bedroom in the 80's that your parents told you to turn down. The LaScala is your first concert. No comparison.
  15. Ya, definitely rough it in and sneak up on it. Just a shave at the end to make it perfect.
  16. Cargo Track https://www.google.com/search?q=slide+track+hold+down&rlz=1C1CHZL_enUS686US686&biw=1920&bih=950&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjz7LeM8MfQAhXCslQKHZ3vDXMQ_AUI1gEoAQ#tbm=isch&q=cargo+track&imgrc=USmVg6-MGoJwpM%3A
  17. Back to the drawing board. Or, just delete the thread.
  18. I don't have any plans, but I have done a 1" conversion. I expanded the outside 1/4" which is insignificant. The "doghouse" was increased by 1/4' on the outside also. Maybe this makes a difference, but I feel that the interior volume is more important. Hell, people have opened up and ported the chamber with acceptable results. Keep in mind that LaScalas were designed (with all due respect to PWK) over 50 years ago with analog test methods while utilizing the maximum usage of a sheet of ply. It was a balance. My point is, if you work off of the original dimensions and move everything out 1/4", the only difference is the doghouse. You could possibly widen the cabinet by (maybe 3/8"?) and maintain the side port dimensions. The one thing I found out is that if you add 1/4" to the doghouse, you must add 1/2" to the front. This puts the "point" right back where it needs to be. Damn near perfect. If anyone is going to document a 1" build, it's probably going to be you. Looking forward to the new build. I've been watching your work. Spot on. Here's what I did.
  19. Super tasty. They're on my list. I've had plenty of first gens. Great price. Love seeing the stuff you toss out. Cheers
  20. I probably have a pair. Let me see what I can dig up.
