  1. Hello, I have the AVR-5800 and a 25'x11' room. With the SPL set as suggested, I have to approach 00db or reference level in the 5 channel stereo mode to get it as loud as I like it. I am using the KLF-30's and a C-7. Try turning your SPL up on your speaker settings....It'll get louder. I have been cautious about doing this. I don't want to burn a speaker. I have never turned it up passed 00db. I don't know just how far I can push it. I wish someone could help me with that. Is this true for ALL Denon receivers?
  2. Keith, I have the Denon 5800. I know you can turn the sub off in direct mode.....which effects pure direct too. This can be done through the remote or by the knobs/dials on the unit itself....Surround parameters screen on the remote. I feel your pain, the Denon manuals are really pathetic. Hope this helps and you get your problem solved Bart
  3. Thanks for all the replies. I wondered what kind of response I was going to get to this. I came home last night and after a few to many domestic beers, looked to see if anyone had replied to my original post. I was just frustrated and needed some help. I am sorry my message was abrasive. I'll take a valium and move on. Thanks again for the replies. Humbled, Bart
  4. I can't understand why no one has replied to this. Were the questions to difficult? I got my answers. Now, unlike the rest of you that knew these answers,I'm going to answer them if they come up again by someone else. I thought this bb was a good thing at one time. I now understand that only a few people with "no Life" get an intelligent some what quick response. ROCK ON!!! And don't eat the yellow snow. It's all good....Maybe I need some anger management and a hug. Don't even try it.
  5. Hello, I know there are a lot of Denon owners here. Please read this and tell me what your experience is....Thanks I have used a SPL meter to calibrate all speakers to 75db. I currently have 5 speakers and a SUB. I have Klipsch KLF-30 for L/R and SL/SR and a Klipsch KLF-C7 center. My settings for 75db center weighted, slow metering are -10db L/R, -11db SR/SL,-6db center and -12 db for the sub. These settings were calibrated from the listening position. I have two concerns. I listen to a lot of music and enjoy the Pure Direct Mode. I think I am going to set the Direct Mode settings back to 0db L/R, 0dbSL/R, Odb SUB (Turning the subs volume down some when listening to Pure Direct/Direct. Do you see a problem with this? My second concern is more problematic and deals with the surround modes except 5/7 channel stereo. I only have a CD player attached to the AVR-5800 today. The surround modes I have used are the ones for music like the DSP modes Rock Arena, Classic Rock Concert...The 5/7 works great. I get a balanced Volume at the listening position. It is the other modes that I have a Volume problem with and maybe I just don't understand how it is supposed to sound. Am I supposed to expect the same Volume with the DSP surround modes (from the surround speakers) that I am experiencing with the 5/7 Channel stereo mode or are the DSP surround modes only sending the surround speakers (EFFECTS) which have very little Volume output? Here is the way my speakers are laid out today. Front __ __ __ L C R SOFA / SUB __ __ SL SR Because of speaker placement, do you think this is why I am not satisfied with the other surround modes? The effects coming out of the surround speakers are very faint and are not full range. Is this how it is supposed to be? I will be getting some dipole speakers for the S(A) L/R (RS-7)soon and some full range speakers(RF-3) for the surround back. Are these DSP effects designed for dipole speakers aimed at the listening position from the side and slightly overhead? Thanks for your comments, Bart
  6. Keith, A good forum on the 3801 can be found at http://pub7.ezboard.com/faussiedvdandhtforumfrm14 There is also a forum on the 5800 here too....follow the link in the list at the bottom. I have the 5800 and you can't switch between different video outputs rather svideo to svideo, component to component, composite to composite. There is an answer. You could use adapters available at Radio Shack that will convert Svideo to composite or the other way around. No answer for component that I know of. Hope this helps. Any help is appreciated. Keith
  7. Hi Keith, Reliable Home Theater has the 3801 for $795. They also back the manufacturers warranty. I have considered them but I have not used them yet. They do have good prices. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/reliableav/index.html Bart
  8. Hello, I have been reading about the KLF-30's and the problems with shielding and TV distortion. How close can I put my 30's to the TV, a Sony 36" flat screen, and not have to worry about the picture/TV being screwed up? I am about to make that move and would like some advice. Thanks, Bart

The fellow was most certainly talking about the new Reference models which will cover the price and performance range (with better performance) of the Legend line. If you need to match KLF mains, you should definitely purchase the KLF-C7. The new speaker will not be a better mate to your mains. I was nicely received on my recent trip to the UK. Had a chance to train the new reps. Maybe this was during the time one seemed to be napping. Never nap when BG speaks. Hi Bob, Does this mean that I don't have to worry about the Legend Line being phased out any time soon? Should I not worry about trying to find a KLF-C7 when I need one? I just bought KLF-30's and want to buy 2 more KLF-30's for surrounds and a KLF-C7 and the RS-7's for the back surrounds. Is this still a good plan? Would you recommend a different speaker placement? Thanks, Bart Williams
  10. The new USA WEBSITE is http://www.denon.com/ Bart quote: Originally posted by RWMIN: How can I reach Denon? I need a new remote as thew kids thouoght mine was a book hammer. I called 1 800 remotes and the not so good Denon 3300 remote is $140 bucks ! If I am going to spend that much I would be interested in buying one of their better remotes but I can't get to their web site for info. Help, I need a remote...
  11. Thank You all that responded. I got a digital coax cable and put the AVR-5800 in Pure Direct mode. I am pleased with the sound now. I can only hear the hiss when my ear is 3-5" away from the speaker. The sub still works in this mode too...a bonus. Music from a CD player has never sounded better in my house! Thanks again, Bart
  12. Hello, I just purchased KLF-30's. I have noticed that they produce either white noise or a hissing sound when the receiver is on but no media is playing. The noise is less when music is played. The noise is also less when I put the receiver in direct and pure direct mode (by passing processing).I am hooking these up to a Dennon AVR-5800 and using a M&K MX-125 mk II too. I am using a decent speaker cable (monster). Is this sound (white noise\ hissing)normal? Will the sound be less when the speakers are "broke in"? The noise is very faint but I can notice it when the room is quite. Thanks for you help and answers. Bart
