  1. The underside is hiding the PCB, outputs, vol and choke :-). I absolutely swear by the iron but not a pretty as Id like.
  2. Its three days. Im planing on going on friday... hoping less crowded. Most interested in New DACs and Carts :-)
  3. 15.5" widex 11.5" deep x 4" tall. All new iron... should be a real upgrade. That said youll be able to report 1st hand... its going to you for a tire kicking session.
  4. T.H.E. Show Newport Beach May 30 - June 1, 2014 Anyone in the Los Angeles/ Orange County area going. Ive gone now for 3 years... lots and lots of fun. Is Klipsch going to have a room?
  5. Ive been asked a ton to buid more of the SE-84s, but was trying to talk people out of it... really more time consuming that it should of been to build... hands not small enough... so I set out to give the same great sound on a chassis which made more sense. The silver one will be off to testing with Joe. So far, same great sound with great freq extention... product of better iron. The Black unit is my Sp edition... when I get silly with parts :-). I think Im done with prototypes for the summer. Time to build my bass bins and go to the park.
  6. From the album: recent pics

New SE-84 Special Edition. OK I went a bit off the rach on this one... 3watt output for 10watt iron. Needless to say the lowend and HF extention in improved.
  7. From the album: recent pics

New SE-84... no more bleeding hands and real space for improvded layout. (Mostly just easer to build and includes improved iron). Lowend and HF extention in improved. Really great balance. I hope this becomes my best seller... A real all around choice.
  8. Many a speaker builder will state tube amp friendly to mean 94db and above efficiency. I think most SET buyers are using speakers, single driver, horn loaded etc that are 96db and above and generally pair with amps of 1watt to 3watts or 8-12watts depending of cost/ and circuit choices. Most here have suggested that 30watts will give you all the dynamic head you could ask for and others have stated that lower power esp with Klipsch speakers provide room filling sound… it’s a personal choice more than anything. On my own speakers I run aware from .75watt to 100watts tubed and all are incredible pleasing. The 2 I most frequent in the fleewatt do to its warmth and the 8watt due to overall balance. (No matter what you choice… make sure its quite).
  9. Thats a nice setup. I am running a Basis Signature 2001 with Grahm 2.2. really sweet sounding rig. Dave Dave you getting an itch :-)
  10. am I missing something... the KPT-904 seem very cool. little DBB stele :-)
  11. Ortofon 2m black with DIYtube SUT. MC step transformer and the Ortofon should be magic... ~$1000 for both... sell your current cart.
  12. I don't remember the age of the unit. I got the cabs for free and went to town on them if I recall correctly.
  13. Hey everyone...I need to crowd source a question. I had a Emotiva ERC-2 and sold it for a Olive 03HD... stupid mistake. I hated the olive... very very very slow interface. As a result, I never used it. I sold it yesterday on ebay. I realize I own a lot of CDs and will continue to do so. I play them on the family system... Rogue tempest II and Cornscalas... (Kinda the wife's system as it has a remote). So I need a CD player. Ive kind of drawn it down to these two units... opinions? This is only for Redbook CD, single ended outputs, no DAC added.
  14. New woofers in ... rebalanced the crossover... Total badass.G@D I love the bass from a Eminence 15C.
  15. Parts Express Woofers were pulled tonight. New Eminence Kappa 15Cs go in tomorrow :-).
  16. We will have to disagree. I hate the pink stuff... Fugly to work with. Polyfil and testing different amounts has been a proven tool for me... again... your speaker... try different suggestions and see what your ears prefer. The speaker already has some very good treatments, though there is a lot of room for improvement. Porting is a bad idea... Its based on heresy. If wanting to port, you'd have to research (use bass box pro or other tools) to fig whats the correct port size or length. You would likely pickup a bass hump (extra bass output if ported). I like the even bass response it has.
  17. I only use the Kappa Pro 15C... its always dug deeper than a stock K33 in my cornwal boxes. This is a unbolt and replace UPGRADE! Sell the old units. If you don't have the coin for it... there is no need. But if you want to have deeper and more bass the 15C will provide for this.
  18. I did the work 3-4 years ago. I believe he paired with an AudioNote EL84 15watt integrated. The c abs are 1.5” thick and are a complete bear… small package lots weight… I don’t think you’ll find a finer example of them. I would strongly suggest adding pollyfill. I used acoustic foam, but did not add the pollyfill. I now know better J.
  19. Not to hijack the thread... but I have an update to the SE-84 comming down the pipe... (All parts ordered... ) Wen done in 3 weeks I will send to you for a tire kicking session. I think youll approve. The dedieacted phones has been making me bonkers a bit... the grounding scheme is even more important. I hope to have fully debuged by June.
  20. Joe youre sick... but most of us have the same illness. I believe you have a crazzy large musuc collection already... Id go with the upgrade. If you go upgrade route... maybe ask the forum for sugestions. I'm a DIYer and so would lean toward sugestions that involve the solder iron.
  21. Ive built 3 pairs... really solid speaker... got pics? I think you'll fall in love with them! Was it these? http://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649062781-klipschinspired_bob_crites_cs1_high_efficiency_horn_speakers/ If so... I built them and can share a lot about them.
  22. Got a pic of your room and rig? The emotiva phono stage is getting good reviews. Anyone else have a suggestion for a good moving mag phono. I think he is planing on using the stealth dac and his pre. The emotiva stealth has an analog input too which makes it a great all around choice.
  23. So happy it worked out great. Hope life is becoming simpler too :-). If memory serves me... you have the Emotiva Stealth connected via UBS to your Macbook pro with Amarra hifi ($50 bargain) into Big Ben and then into the Scalas... You had Theils long ago and were comparing Magnepans... Whats your impression of the speakers? Justin
  24. Big speakers are wonderful but such a personal choice. Kinda wish someone offered me a Gerarrad 301 or VPI Scout :-).
