My introduction to tubes was with a rebuilt 299C, the sound and sound stage was completely different from the SS that I was running. The music sounded like it was coming from the walls behind the speaker, almost like I had a center channel.

I've run into some snobby people at high-priced audio boutiques, the conversation goes well until I'm asked what speakers I'm running. When you say Klipsch either they have never heard of it or it doesn't cost enough. These guys pay more for a meter of cable than I paid for my system. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying the sound from my system.

Meagin, I read in another post of yours that you received your Pearch/Blueberry and the VRDs; has the addition of the new gear made a "big" distinction between the "better" sound of the Khorn over the Cornwall?

DimaK, Last I checked, the pound to the dollar is 1.80; assuming you're purchasing the mod bits from the states, you are paying about half as much as someone spending dollars. I know, I live here in the UK and I get paid in dollars. EE

Jeff, you are correct in your statment, I think it behooves the individual putting the money out to search what's available in his/her price range, listen and make their decision.

I made the switch to tubes from SS about 3 years ago, my SS wasn't considered top of the line and then again, my intro to tubes wasn't either. The entry price point was about the same, but to my ears, there was a huge difference in the sound. The Scott 299C mated with my KLF 30s sounded better to me then the mid-priced Yamaha gear I had. I was able to sit and listen to music for long periods of time without getting the dull headache and listening fatigue. From the 299C I upgraded to a quicksilver audio preamp and monos which I still have, the sound of this pair is better than the Scott. A friend of mine has some really good sounding SS, but the sound comes with a steep price; he has over $20K invested into his system. Can I afford his equipment? Yes! But it's not practical for me to put that much money into a stereo; one thing that I have learned in this hobby is to set a sound/price threshold and for me I'm getting more sound for my dollar in the tube arena. If you are willing to pay for what sounds best to you then go for it, be it SS or tubes. One good thing about SS is that you can leave it on all the time and not have to worry about warm up, but after 3 years I'm used to getting up and not having a remote. EE

On my way home from work today I purchased a New CD that I really wanted to listen to, when I got home and turned every thing on and put in the CD I noticed a "thumping/popping" sound coming from my right speaker. I checked all of the connections to the speaker from the amp, preamp etc but no fix, this is the first time that this has happened to me since my switch to tubes 3 years ago. I had some old EL 34s that I took out a few years back and placed them in the said amp and the problem disappeared; not trying to be too astute here but I take it that a tube was bad. I'm looking for a decent and reliable tube tester that I can use to test my current tubes and my future purchases. I asked NOS Valves about one of these a while back in a conversation and he mentioned his that costs about a $1,000--too much. He also mentioned another (cheaper) one but I can't find the piece of paper that I wrote it down on. Any info that you can pass along to me is greatly appreciated. Also, this doesn't have to be a new piece of equipment, I do not mind buying used; if there is $20 difference between used and new I'll go with the new. It will be a while before I respond to anyone regarding this, I live in the UK and it's about 9:30 pm; I'm headed to bed in about 30 mins or so. EE

One thing that I've discovered in this audio hobby is to purchase what sounds good to you at a price that you are willing to afford. What's in today is out tomorrow, I do not have the time to chase around new products on a monthly basis. I've upgraded several times and I'm sure that I will again in the future, but every upgade has been very minimal in costs. Why, I've always purchased decent equipment and I was able to sell it for about the purchase price. Easyeyes

I'm a long ways off from having to by my daughter a car, she just turned four and my oldest son is only nine. I do remember my first car though, a 74 Ford LTD with a 351 modified engine in it. Paid $300 for it in high school from the proceeds of my after school job. In many ways I wish I would have kept it. My second car was kept in the Ford/Lincoln family too - as an 18 year old I had a 74 Lincoln Continental Mark IV with a rebuilt "429" engine and transmission in it. I could pop the tires in that thing from a standing stop. Had to get rid of it because my wife couldn't drive it, too big. Bought a brand new Mazda 626 in 91 and drove it from California to Louisiana, it has 160,000 miles on it and I am still driving it here in Europe; drove to London a couple of weeks ago in it. EE

Wolfram, There were several individuals on the site, fini and mobile homeless who helped me do this. Since I am a member of AOL, I saved my pictures on their/my server and uploaded them from there. I had lots of problems trying to load them from my hard drive. Hopefully, someone with more experience will chime in and instruct you on how to do this by loading your pictures on the klipsch server. Have you tried this? Go to attach file and following the directions and see if it works. Ed

I'm offering this one more time on the forum to see if anyone wants it before I pack it up for storage. This amp was rebuilt less than a year ago by NOSValves and is in great operating condition. Amp sales with telefunken rib plates up front, Russian 7189 output tubes, HH Scott 6BL8s and Sovtek 5AR4. If you are interested please let me know as soon as possible. Arvz28, There are four telefunkens upfront, four Matched NOS 7199 output tubes, two amperex Scott original NOS 6BL8 and one Sovtek 5AR4. You are right about purchasing one off of Ebay, having it shipped to NOSValves for a rebuild and then the trip home. Believe me, I'm not trying to make any money off of this.
