  1. i agree that subs for the most part are a necessity for HT unless you have speakers that are true basshounds and you have the appropriate environment to make them shine. I think that your room is too open for that scenario. My house in NJ has cathedral ceilings similar to yours, i am familiar with the type of acoustics. There are some in-wall sub solutions but if you are really trying not to penetrate walls, they may not work out so well for you. Subs are usually a tradeoff and most of the time, i said earlier, its usually a trade off in performance and you and only you will know the right answer.
  2. The quartets are excellent speakers. I like them 10 times more than the heresys. They have a great bass foundation and really arent much bigger than the heresys but maintain that heritage type feel. The quartets are less warm than the heresys are but have that very open mid and high range like the heresy. I would, in a heartbeat buy another set of them. When get extra cash I am going to keep an eye out for some newer Forte's because they are supposed to be quartets on crack in a little bit bigger enclosures. I will say this, Klipsch's 3-way designs, from what I have auditioned all sound wonderful. I know that their 2 way and 3 way designs essentially accomplish the same goal but their 3-way designs are much more lively sounding. if they made a 3-way out of the rf-7's they would have a real beast on their hands. I know its a little off topic but worth saying.
  3. It was your first line, it was a question I asked, not to make it sound any other way than what you said. Here is the rest, excluding about a sub, is it really "so out of context", he said in his original post he was keeping the Heresy's. (I agree about the in walls) " I would probably go with the RB-81 II setup sans sub or at least RB-81 II's, RC-62 II and like RB-52 II or RB-42 II for surrounds if you want to cut cost some. I would think this would be pretty WAF and its easier to install and more versatile than in-wall IMO. You got a big *** room so bigger speakers are going to help. You can also do in-walls for surround duty which in most cases are extremely capable IMO, hell i have them in my ceiling and ive been extremely pleased with them. You can keep the heresy's if she'll tolerate them and they would cater best to your size room because of their larger driver size. I had a pair and they had a great sonic sound and a big sound. Problem would be matching a center that sounds good with them." I was not trying to pick a fight, it would have been obvious I am not a subtle person, it's why I have to be careful what I say, it's not always nice to just say what your thinking. (so I am told, repeatedly for the last 40 years ) That first line just stuck out to me, it's why I asked the question, it really doesn't matter it's all opinions, you have to realize and I have NO WAF to ever have to deal with, she loves huge speakers as long as they sound great. We only go by sound, looks are a very distant second so I never judge any speaker by looks. It is why I asked that question, I couldn't imagine any speaker you listed even coming close to a Heresy or filling that size room. We have some RB-75's here and there pretty good but I would never expect them to be mains in a room that size, Heresy's would be a big stretch. imo im just giving you a hard time tis the season to be merry and to give a little back
  4. So your thinking the RB anything would be better than the Heresy ll for filling a large room ? don't you pick and choose what to quote . so out of context. From a WAF point of view, the RB series is much more acceptable in my mind, if i were a wife and hated speakers than a hersey

Problem would be matching a center that sounds good with them. Both of these cases you have a subwoofer issue which is hard to solve when you cant have a box. IB as suggested is a great WAF option but tons of DIY. The only other option i would think could be OK might be to get a sub and put it under the heresys... You can also look at sunfire and def tech who usually have more compact high out subs. They sorta bend the laws of physics in my mind and dont compete with subs with actual big box volumes but that doesnt mean those compact subs sound bad.
  6. i'd take a look at the emotiva fusion 8100 receiver https://emotiva.com/products/receivers/fusion-8100. you can alsp buy an outboard amp at a later date if you need more power on your fronts or if you upgrade. There are a lot of good receivers out there. I will say this though, warranty and customer service have become really important to me. Places like emotiva and outlaw audio and svs all have great customer service when you are in need of help or repair. its worth something to me.
  7. i think the Zu's look cool but my gut has always told me that they arent worth the cash. Then again, i have never heard them in person.
  8. for the most part, from what I've encountered with klipsch speakers, their ports are just port flares or look just like flares which help to smooth out air flow in and out usually to help reduce chuffing noises. Their port flares might be considered small port tubes too which helps to determine to what frequency its tuned to. What you see is A-OK
  9. Atmos is cool but i think its in the realm of 3d tv's. I will give it some time before i jump on the band wagon if ever. I think its a neat idea and I am all for being immersed. Just need to see how it pans out
  10. havemt heard from you in a while? Which subs you running? Sig says pc-12 ultra. Do you have pc-12 plus or pc-13 ultra? I want one of them cylinder subs for my living room but every time I get really to pull the trigger I keep going to back to what I can diy for less. It's a curse lol. I have the Plus's, sorry. I amended my signature. These are great subs, they really are. DIY is cheaper and i debated too doing what you did with the 4 daytons and still went SVS.
  11. the Quartets or Fortes should be a good fit. I have 2 quartets in my office and they are definitely able to perform (when everyone is gone for the day). The fortes are slightly bigger nd I havent found a set to try thats been affordable but they are larger and might cater to your needs better. I can't lie though, these quartets are awesome in my book again. Having owned the heresy's, the quartets are just a different animal and blow them away IMO.
  12. i heart both my RB-5's and the RC-3 II's that i have owned in the past. In fact, I am on the hunt for another one. Both of these speakers are just great!
  13. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/msg/4693332657.html these came up on craigslist and I was thinking they might be good for garage use or something like that. anyone heard them?
  14. good thing i didnt have to say "pics, or it didnt happen"
  15. Steven, your photos are so Incredible every time. If the 7's didn't meet your needs it would be legend or heritage. Even still, the upgrade could be there...
  16. Buy the audio equip over the car. You are more likely to lose the car than the audio. I'm and terribly sorry for your loss. Floods suck. I manage commercial property for a living and floods are bad. Insurance carriers blow for the most part but I hope you come out winning.
  17. I would say that's why haha. That's a lot of volume. Manufacturers don't kid around sometimes when they suggest speakers for certain room sizes
  18. I got 700 when I sold my 5's the first time in Phoenix around 2011 and I rebought a pair over 2 years later for 250 from a guy who used to intern at klipsch a bunch of years ago. The 5's work well in a smaller environment where you have corners to help radiate the bass. They have a deep low end that's tight but not punchy like the first gen 7's. By that I mean when you turn up the EQ for the lower end on the 7's. That yields tight punch low end. For a while I hated the 7's because out of the box the low end sucks. These do well in larger rooms and rock with good corners. Half the time I think my subs are on and they arent. At the moment I am blissfully ignorant and know only what I know which is helping keep money in my pocket
  19. For the most part this forum is a lot of fun. Differences in opinions cause friction here and there but flaming is really at an extreme minimum in this forum which makes it enjoyable to stick around on. We hope you have a great time though!
  20. My friend got the small PB1000 ND that was pretty underwhelming in his space as he had really open concept and high ceilings with lots of plush things in the room. Ultimately he returned it and got a sb2000 and it fixed what was missing. He is also a music guy a day what ed that kick in the chest which sealed subs are often good at giving and it was the right size for him. He still wants a second one. I love sealed over ported for music but I will say that my cylinders perform very well for both movies and music. I wanted abyssal low end hence ported and more sub than my room ever needs. I like headroom.... My buddy did the svs return program to get the upgraded sub and I helped him get it dialed in. I would get your system lit up like a tree first and test it for a week or so and then order the svs of its still your intention at that point. Their return and warranty policies are near unbeatable, actually I don't know of anyone with better policies and customer service.
  21. You bought an awesome setup. The 7's are incredibly powerful speaker. In your environment, you will never top them out or you'd go deaf. They will tirelessly perform at your every whim. I have done demos for people and their jaw just drops through my concrete slab and it always has more love to give. Prepare to be blown the eff away and then some. Please strap yourself, your wife, your kids and fellow friends in or they may get embedded in your walls. I rarely don't have an opinion but I always (usually) do it with best intentions. Klipsch has made a many a subwoofer and of the ones made, only about 2 models have ever been worth their salt. The ones you got are going to perform but if you want the abyssal deep end of your movie soundtracks, I would research other subwoofer contenders. I make this suggestion as I am quite the upgrade veteran and you very much so have the opportunity to upgrade easily now. It's not to deter or detract from your new awesome purchase in any way but I have gotten the best suggestions in the 1 hour after I have bought something. I'm sure you have a return period so demo out the period with what you have and then make a decision. We all have our vices here and most of us are sub fiends. I drool for the bass. I want it to shred reality...if the movie or music calls for it, I want the aliens on the other side to complain that I am too noisy and knocked shut off their walls.
  22. The most unsung hero of a speaker is the rf5. Why they don't bring it back to close the gap between the 82's and 7's is beyond me especially if they refine them as they have done with the first 2 incarnations. It's important to keep in mind the difference between refinement, improvement and difference in sound reproduction. They all are similar and can be intertwined yet are separate and independent of one another. The consensus I feel in general is we are all a little butthurt because klipsch removed the glamour we all had and still have if you are in the know...
  23. Call klipsch. Also take a look inside. The drivers should be labeled...look at the xover too.
  24. I use emotiva rca's and have been extremely pleased with them and will recommend them again and again. The value for build quality is there IMO. I've used the monoprice coax rca's and they work pretty well. I just wanted a prettier cable and I found the emotiva cables to sound better. For long runs I use knukonceptz rca triple shielded, usually for my subwoofer runs but I also use their other cables for signal runs in my car. I use monoprice wire too. It's great quality for the price. I buy 10 or 12 gauge when I can unless I have a short run and weight is a consideration. I use GLS Audio wave flex banana plugs and have been extremely pleased with build quality and price. I can't stand thumbing down wire on binding posts. So much time and damn tedious. I'd rather spend the time doing the plugs once. I use redmere hdmi cables from monoprice and I can't give them more praise. I have been so completely satisfied with them. They are great because they are extremely light and put very little stress on the hdmi ports which becomes an issues with heavier gauge hdmi and when you try to crunch your avr or processor in a cabinet and the wires get bent. I busted my video out on my processor and emotiva was able to fix it for me but I was out downtime of almost 3 weeks.
  25. I am one who had bad joojoo with all of my klipsch and the xpa5. All of them I heard floor noise on and it drove me batshit crazy. Emotive makes good product and I have been pleased with the minix and my wb14's on my computer with no floor noise there. I have. A solid 125 watts a channel from my outlaw of my is and it's good stuff. I always say the more power you have the better as long as it is good clean and quality from top to bottom. Having 200 watts a channel is great if you can get it. I always suggest you consider outlaw audio as a competitor because they have rock solid performance and are known through and through for their amps. Rotel makes a very good amp that sounds good with klipsch so consider them and they have decent prices.
