  1. I have used a Panasonic Light Scope FF-393E, and later added a FF-394E with more power for under $20 each. They work well enough to make sure I have a decent tip and when it's time to invest in a new stylus. Best used hand held so they take patience and a steady hand. If you want inexpensive and no fuss these are options. Look on ebay since they aren't made any more. I think the optics used in these were of reasonable quality which is more than can be said for most of the junk manufactured today.
  2. I'm interested and would like to buy / try. Count me in and let me know how to go forward. Thanks!
  3. Sold. Thank you! I'll get them shipped in the morning.
  4. For sale is a pair of gently used modified type AA crossover made by DeanG. The build includes high quality Kimber Kaps. Dean puts a lot of time into his builds and it shows. These were $475 new. $375 for the pair. Copying from Dean, some info on the build: "A lot of people find the stock midrange output to be too forward -- for those folks, I drop the output 3dB. This is especially benefical to those who listen at live listening levels. When given a choice, like what is provided with Al's networks, most will in relatively short order find that dropping the midrange output a little produces a subjectively more listenable sound. So, that is the first modification. The second modification is that I change the tweeter filter from a Chebyshev alignment to a Butterworth. This smooths out the response of the K-77 and puts a little bump at the top range of its FR which sounds nice. I did comparisons both ways many times with my own Klipschorns and always preferred the Butterworth alignment. Like all networks, this one has a "sweet spot". Sitting 12 to 14 feet back, and between 90 and 95dB, it really opens up. These will work in the Belle, LaScala, and Klipschorn of any vintage. The difference in output between the K-55-V and K-55-M is often overstated." These sound excellent!
  5. Not the most bizarre, but the inside has more cool art and the music is great!!
  6. Bump for a guy with a nice avatar. I also have a Blueberry Extreme (and a vette); both are awesome.
  7. I have for sale a very nice pair of 1978 Klipschorns, Type B, Walnut Veneer (KBWO). They are consecutive S/N and are in good condition. The Khorns are big, heavy, and sound incredible. This pair has been well cared for. Everything works as intended. The veneer not perfect, but is in good condition and they look very nice. Subconscious: "You need a Klipschorn pair" ** SOLD ** $2,200. I'm in the Des Moines area. I may be able to assist with delivery. If that's an issue, please ask. Following are a couple pics in different light. They come with the original AA crossovers. I have an upgraded pair from DeanG which can be substituted for an additional $200.
  8. Oooh, its like Christmas in August! Looking forward to meeting you....
  9. God Bless Texas - Little Texas, the video has good scenery
  10. Like the pCats? Yeah, you can sell them to me.
  11. Wow, still a lot of pent up aggression.... My Welborne Star Chiefs are The Bomb!
  12. Thats a very interesting article. Thanks for posting it. Hopefully in time the compression issues go away based on more of this type of research & testing. And the NBS preamp with VRDs will be ready for all the great uncompressed music that will come. []
  13. Good question - I'm not from the area so I'll defer. I'll see you at the show, though! Save some trunk space for a Fisher 400 that is going home with you. [] Edit: Deep dish pizza is a must for me when I go to Chicago!
  14. Thank you, Frank, I'll see you at the audio show next week!
  15. I don't see these for sale any where. I had a quad and now sadly have 2. Do I run these with something else? Beg on here to see if anybody else has leftovers? What's a guy to do?
  16. I purchased a pair of Transcendent OTL amps and have used them bridged with my Khorns and the Transcendent GG preamp. They are 4W each and sound great! I had posted a WTB note a while back for a nice 45 amp such as a Don Allen, Jeff K., or Welborne. I didn't find any of them, and I ran into these amps and decided to give them a try. I'm glad I did and I would recommend them to anybody with high efficiency horn speakers. They excel with voices, and are also very fast and can hang with just about any music type. My Khorns are in a very large, two story room that is open to most of the house, so I wouldn't want to try just one amp in stereo. One amp would be fine in a smaller room. I also have a NOSValves VRD Stereo45 amp which is awesome. The VRD definately has more wattage and if I want to rock out when nobody else is home it is the way to go. However there is something very sexy about the SE OTL amps - they are very "liquid". I know these have been around for a while - I just thought I'd share this in case somebody else is considering them and wondering if they are recommended. I'll be keeping these and rotating them with my VRD45. I don't have to pick one amp, but if I did I would choose the VRD45 because it has more wattage, is beautiful, and very well built. If I had it in a smaller area I would likely keep the SE OTLs. Fortunately, I'm going to keep both!
  17. I want to stop wanting more speakers and amps! That will help with the peace on earth - it all has to start somewhere - and that will help my house.
