  1. I use an updated Stromberg Carlson ASR-433. It is an excellent pairing with Klipsch. If you want an little extra oomph in the bass region and great control over the treble and bass, this is your ticket. If you will use it with LPs and you are picky, you may want to upgrade the phono section. IMy phono section is not updated, and it would be better with a little work. Great integrated tube amps.
  2. I've played with a few nice cables that were made and sent out for trial and was not able to tell a difference. My daughter could, but she didn't prefer either. So I just purchase decent quality interconnects from Monoprice. Pretty much the same for speaker wire.
  3. This is not at all what you asked about, but as others have mentioned I think you will be sorely disappointed with a speaker that is designed to be big, but is actually not. A Khorn without the size will not produce Khorn type sound. If you want some small speakers that sound good and can be easily transported there are a lot of really good bookshelft speakers. One step up might be a small single driver speaker, see Tekton speakers. A compromise could be a small single driver version of the cain & cain abbey's. See link: http://www.lovecraftdesigns.com/speaker_theNoogi.html
  4. Do not use oxalic acid! It can be used for small repairs or black streaks (water damage), but you better be prepared for a complete refinish as you can't spot treat with it on a pair of finished speakers and expect it to blend it. Just wanted to warn so nothing was hurt; I'm sure you weren't going this direction.
  5. When I was in 8th grade I used my paper route and lawn money to buy my principal's used system as he upgraded to a "better" black plastic type system with a remote. I bought his quad pioneer receiver with 12" 3 way speakers for $75. I don't recall the model but it had a really cool green scope that looked like a "radar" that showed the watt output in the four channels. It was sweet. My younger brother told me last week when he was little he was scared when I had it on because of how loud it is.
  6. DeanG, Sent a small donation to help. God bless to you and your family.
  7. I've got one and it sounds great. Also, never a hicup with mine. I like the separate L/R tone controls. I use it with Heresy 1's.
  8. After trying quite a few, I like my Juicy Music Blueberry the best. It's equally great in front of a tube amp, or a SS amp; and has an awesome phono.
  9. Baloney, I would be all over these Decorator Heresys if I live in your neck of the woods. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ele/2817451977.html Bill I wouldn't recommend spending $400 on decorators. They look nice, but were the least expensive of the speakers. You could find some nicer walnut finish for the same dough. I recently sold two mint sets of walnut for less than that (each). Be patient.
  10. The size of my room is 20' x 14'. The speakers are on the short wall. The room is also two story and opens into the upstairs hall and the kitchen area. I posted a quick pic at the beginning of this thread: http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/156473.aspx You can see what I mean by the speakers not really having the best corners. They sound great anyway, and I know the sound could be improved with false corners, but that would not be accepted by SWMBO, so they will stay as they are. I have had the Heresy's in this room as well as the Cornwalls. They all sound good, and of course the sound is improved as the speaker price goes up, as one would expect.
  11. No offense meant: don't over-analyze. You have corners, an acceptional tube amp and pre that no doubt match well with Klipschorns. All the rest is easy. Just buy them, if you can't get them, get a different pair. You won't have trouble selling them should you change your mind down the road. I'm guessing you won't regret it. If it doesn't work out, I would suggest with the nice amplification you have trying a pair of Cornwalls. My next suggestion if none of that sounds good is to sell me the PCats. I would love to have a pair. [] My Khorns are not installed in corners as nice as yours, and they sound awesome.
  12. Wow, there can be a lot of different between amps. Generally, I favor older equipment. For example I have a Stromber Carlson ASR-433 integrated amp from the 60's that was recently refurbished. It is very quiet, sounds great, is bass-heavy, and not expensive. It is even quiet on Khorns, and due to the heavy bass, it sounds great with Heresey speakers too.
  13. That is the smallest tree we've had in the last 6 years since we've been in this house. Couple of funny stories, I grew up fetching our own trees (free cause we couldn't afford to buy them and why spend the $), so I've continued that tradition off and on. About 5 years ago we did one of those moments where you go - oh crap - that is way bigger than it looked outside!!! We cut a tree down from along side a road, put in the truck, and knew right away when it was as big as the pickup we were in trouble. "That's OK, we'll make it fit" famous last words.... We stood the tree up inside after forcing it through the door, and it was 1' from the ceiling in this 19' room - and quite big around. The kids went to bed and my wife and I started decorating it, then went to bed. As we were walking up the steps, we heard a crash with the sound of broken glass... uh oh! The tree was too big for the stand and fell over. The next day I screwed the stand to a piece of board I had laying around that is about 3.5' x 4' and that has been in use the last couple years. It really gives the stand a lot more stability. This tree is nice and tall, but quite skinny, which is fine. One year we cut down the tree in our yard that somebody else planted because it was too close to a native evergreen. I assume they wanted the "cute" tree, but I'd prefer the native tree. We made that our Christmas pic, I was cutting the tree down with a chainsaw while my wife was looking by in disgust and the kids were egging me on.
  14. She bought this tree then asked me to help. set it up, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SPEAKER. What the heck? Really hurt my feelings. See has never liked way the speakers look due to their size, but she does acknowledge they sound great. I can't complain, she is a keeper! I used to have a subwoofer 8' up top where the vases are and she hid that with decor as well. At least now I don't need the sub anymore.
  15. Here is what I did; I had this issue, but didn't think about using accoustic treatments so I just raised the height of my room. It was so much easier. Kidding of course, but it is nice to see this thread. It's been interested to move my Khorns around. They ended up in this room because they sound the best there. Lots of room, high ceilings, carpet, but not perfect corners. I had to do a little fiddling around with the back, but they do sound good and make decent bass as well.
  16. For that kind of money another route you could go is an inexpensive tube integrated. If you are patient and look around you can find one that somebody reputable has gone through already. For example a tube based Scott or Fisher stereo; or without a tuner a Stromberg Carlson tube amp. The S/C could be had for $300-$400 already refurbished. Just another idea to consider.
  17. Another happy ending in Klipschdom! Nice room - I'm trying to get mine to look that nice, but have too much furniture in the way! Why do we have to have a couch, a loveseat, and a chair? Where are the priorities?
  18. Yes, same advice applies. I ran these with a nice Denon Home theatre amp for a little while, then moved them to an old Carver m1.0t - much better. Also used them with a Marantz stereo 2320b and they sounded great. The Marantz was $7 at Goodwill and sounds great. It has not been recapped. These KP-201 are made from nice plywood, same as the older H1's, however they have better components. I could not tell the difference between My "Super" Heresy 1s and these KP-201s in sound.
  19. So the important question is, how do the "new" Marantz sound? I'm the one that sold you the speakers, I hope you like them. They are awesome and are close in close to new condition. The screws are in the bottom becuase these KP-201s were made to mate with professional stands that Klipsch also sold. These were special ordered by a church without the stands, but the screws were still included, just not used. I hope you are enjoying them.
  20. What a bunch of enablers! I think we all need to join the 12 step program!
  21. Happy Birthday, Craig. Thanks for making the NOS Valves VRDST-45, its a great amp. I hope your B-day was awesome!
  22. FINI, that is awesome, but why does it have all the tall, cylindrical light bulbs?
  23. I 2nd the above; I first used my Khorns with SS amps, and had the same ear bleeding sound. I had several things around to switch out and found my $7 Marantz 2210b from Goodwill sounded better than all of my nice audio equipment - the same stuff that sounds great on my Cornwalls and Heresy speakers. Since I've upgraded to a much nicer NOS Valves VRD Stereo unit, which is the cat's meow!
