  1. I went back and forth between the 2150 and the Onkyo 9555. The Onkyo won out in the end (combo of reviews, price, and speakers owned). Both were very highly reviewed. I think the 2150 is a great unit, you'll enjoy it. Have you considered any Klipsch Heritage for your 2-channel set-up?
  2. My suggestion is to not be afraid to buy used. Search A-gon and Craigslist relentlessly, but... be patient. Have cash in your hand and be ready to pounce on a great deal. Personally, I think this is a fantastic deal, and it would give you quite a bit of room on whatever speakers you decide: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKHTRC180/Onkyo-HT-RC180-Thx-7.2-channel-Network-Receiver/1.html Even w/ shipping you are looking at around $1100 to spend on speakers. That leaves quite a few options. Someone earlier mentioned the Rf-82/Rc-62 combo, I would second this recommendation, it's a great set-up. I would also look for a sub before looking for surrounds. IMHO, I think a sub adds more to the "home theater" experience than surrounds. You can grab surrounds down the road. my $.02
  3. +1 on Accessories4less.com; ordered an Onkyo-9555 (2-channel integraded, not AVR) a couple weeks ago. Loved A4L's price and quick shipping. They are an authorized dealer of both Onkyo and Marantz, you can shop w/ confidence.
  4. Really, really nice looking room. I look forward to following this thread. Great choice of wall colors.
  5. $100 Cornwalls in 8/10 condition off the "Garage Sale" section of the forum... Not a "thriftstore" find... But, pretty darn thrifty if you ask me. I'll post pics later.
  6. My first upgrade would be your sub.

+1 on Jason's comments. Look what you can get right now on A4L: http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXNR708KIT/Onkyo-TX-NR708-7.2-Channel-3-D-Ready-Network-A/V-Receiver/1.html The 708 for $499, plus a bunch of free stuff (the free shipping is worth around 30 bucks by itself). Plus, NO TAX [] This is one of the better deals I have seen in a while on the 708...
  8. This should be the end of this discussion.
  9. Sorry about the text block.... The ollll iPad.
  10. I hear what you guys are saying, but for me, the journey is part of the fun. My fiancé and I love to road trip. We make it a mini-trip, stopping along the way to eat at famous places, and stopping to take pictures of this beautiful land of ours. On the trip to Indy from Okc and back, I had the gentlemen's word AND he worked for Klipsch at the corporate HQ. If I couldn't take his word, whose can I take? And, obviously, these have all been really good deals (IMO). The MSRP on the pieces I got on the Indy trip was $4800...I paid $1400 (all pieces MINT). For some it's ALWAYS about the almighty $$$, for some it's not. Whatever floats ya boat!
  11. I say make the drive if you have the time. The drive just adds to the provenance of the speakers. I don't have 1 piece of "new" gear in my entire collection (something I pride myself on), and for most I have had to drive a long ways for (OKC--->Indy and back in 36hrs; a couple of 10hr round-trippers here and there). $1000 is a steal, what's a couple extra hundred in gas??? PS- I like to drive. I drive about 3hrs a day, and I love my job.
  12. Very nice set-up, Niels!! That center cabinet looks great, both you and your bro should be very proud!! The ladies do love it... []
  13. +2 I've got buddies with LEDs that were 2x-3x what I paid for my Panny and the pictures simply don't compare (and they admit it.). But, everyone's situation is different... screen size, ambiant light, WAF (yes, there is WAF with TV's too!). Some people want the paper thin TV's, plasma isn't really there yet, LEDs are. For me, once its mounted, who gives a flip about how thick it is? I want the best pic possible (for my budget of course!!).
  14. Sure do love my 7's!! You will too. I hear ya on the moving them aspect...They are huge!! Such great speakers. Won't be letting mine go anytime soon. Besides your Heresy project, I feel like you can sit back, relax, and enjoy your bargain shopping (that's where I am right now!). Congrats, Sub! Enjoy those behemoths!!
  15. Thanks guys! Woke up like a kid at Christmas this AM, didn't get to really open them up last night. I am definitely going to do that, Bill. Gotta get the 2250 back from the doctor, should be sometime next week. Can't wait. I'm really enjoying these "little guys"!! Mumford and Sons is sounding very nice this morning.
  16. Just brought home a mint pair of Forte II OO, got them hooked up to the smaller Marantz... They sound pretty darn sweet. I am very impressed. Funny thing is, owning La Scalas, then RF-7's, they are actually kind of "small". I love it, my gf actually called them "little guys". Most girls would consider Fortes WAY to big, mine thinks they are little!! I have successfully brainwashed her! Anyway.... Yes, Fortes DO live up to the hype. Very, very nice sounding. Very balanced. Tons of bass, if you need it. Happy camper.
  17. Nez, are you doing any with spades?

    Listening Modes

Youth and todzilla, Do the older PS3's (non-slim) not allow you to select "bit-stream" or "PCM"? I have only owned the Slim. I have mine set to bit-stream and the Integra reads "Dolby TrueHD" or "DTS-MA" on blu-rays. I, like Youth, only use 2-channel ("Stereo") or one of the above lossless formats for movies. I can't bring myself to watch DVD's anymore (how sad is that). They are basically just there for my fiance. She has some truely terrible movies that we WILL NOT be purchasing on BD. For TV I set my DirecTV to output Dolby Digital. It's actually not that bad.
  19. Nice, RBW! I'm about to do the same upgrade to my '77's (AL xover, K77m tweet). Good to hear you liked the upgrade. And, like everyone has said... Those look great!!
  20. RBW, what did you put the 4500 into? LaScalas?
  21. 4500/125's should be headed my way! Thanks, Mrtie!
  22. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts, Paul.
