  1. Hello j, and welcome! It really depends on what you compare the One's to. I have had the One's for a little over a month and I'm really starting to enjoy them. The bass is pretty good. It isn't as deep as say Beats by Dre, but it's more natural. The bass on "Beats" seemed TOO much, and a little muddy, too. All and all, the One's are nice cans. I recommend them. Jrod

    RB 25 vs RB 61

Hey Max, I know the specs are a little different, but I auditioned both in the exact same set-up and couldn't tell the difference. Therefore, I went with the 25's due to the cost difference at the time (about $100 difference). Both are nice little bookshelves. Hope this helps.
  3. I had the same set-up (82-64-82) as you when I got my amp (Outlaw 750). My receiver was spec'ed out to provide 100 watts/channel... did it? Probably not. Is there much of a difference b/w 110 and 120 watts? Probably not. Is there a difference in 100 "receiver" watts and 165 "amp" watts? ABSOLUTELY. That's what I went to when I got my Outlaw, it was a noticable difference for all the reasons mentioned above, separation of instuments being the most notable. Head room coming in a close second. I would recommend an amp. Can you get by without one? Absolutely. Will you notice a difference IF you have one? Absolutely. Good luck, let us know what you decide.
  4. Good choice! Let us know when you are ready to get rid of those Forte's, I'm sure someone would be more than happy to take them off of your hands[] Welcome to the Forum, btw!
  5. Hey Smoke, As you can see I'm running a 64 in between my La Scalas. I can definetly tell there is something off, but I still enjoy watching movies. I've had to bump the 64 up a bit and the LSs down due to the sensitivity, but once I got everything SPL matched it doesn't sound half bad. All that said, my end game with be 3 LSs up front with Heresy surrounds, but for the room I have now, this works! Hope this helps.
  6. There is no such speaker (RB-7), gentleman. You'd be looking for a pair of RB-75's and they are NOT easy to come by. And when you do come by them, they are pricey. I have heard great things about them, though. So if you are patient, that's the route to go. If not, I think a pair of RB-81's would work great. Either way, I personally haven't felt the need to go to 7.1 yet. There are really only a handful of movies shot in actual 7.1, the rest (most of the movies you care about) are shot in 5.1 and matrixed to 7.1 by your processor. You have a great set-up, btw. Good luck, whatever route you go!
  7. Great work so far! I'm really interested to see how this turns out. Eventually, I too hope to have 3 LS across the front. Are you planning on a 5.2 or 7.2 set-up (sorry if I just missed that somewhere)? What are you going to use for surrounds? What about electronics? I really enjoy a nice "build thread", keep up the good work[Y]
  8. Really, REALLY, like what you're doing here. Love the idea of the blue "pies". Please go that route! The 4 consecutive serials is a really big deal. Don't think I could ever part with them myself. I can hardly wait for the completed pics. Nice work, so far! Jrod

I'll chime in now with my thoughts. I've had my One's for about two weeks. They seemed pretty bright right out of the box (like some have said) but have mellowed somewhat with some steady break-in/usage. I enjoy the sq. They are what they are, and nice, little (I mean that literally, they are smaller than I thought), can. If you are used to "active" noise-cancelling, you may not like these. If you are in a noisy environment (plane, subway, etc...) you have to crank them pretty good to drowned out ambient sound (probably not a problem for us Klipsch-heads, I personally like it quite loud!). For $150 you can't really go wrong. The build quality is lightyears ahead of any of the "Beats" by Dre crap, even at half the price. I also really like the traveling case (I travel a lot for work), the cup section folds flat for easier transport, nice touch. All and all a nice, relatively cheap, set of cans. Jrod
  10. harper, First of all, welcome to the madness! craigslist... local and otherwise. Check them incessantly. audiogon.com is a great site for used gear. It's like ebay, but for audio gear. People have ratings, and you can really pick and choose who you want to deal with. Emotiva is very highly regarded (especially with this group), but there are TONS of options when it comes to amps. Some other respectable brands would include: B&K, Parasound, Outlaw (obviously), Rotel, Arcam... Seriously, just the tip of the iceberg. If you're looking to buy used, a couple of things: 1) have $$$ on hand, if a great deal pops up you wanna be ready to pounce! Great deals in this hobby rarely last long. 2) Do as much research as possible BEFORE you are ready to buy. That way you know exactly what you are looking for, it's easy to get overwhelmed. 3) Set a price/amp and STAY FOCUSED!! It's easy to start looking at $400-500 3-channel amps....then by the end of the day you're looking at a $3000 7-channel monster. Jrod's tips for used audio gear buying. Good luck, and have fun. That's what this hobby is about......and impressing your friends. Jrod
  11. I'd lke to give thanks for my La Scalas... and my old lady. HAPPY THANXGIVING, everybody!!!!!!! Jrod
  12. +1 for Integra processing. I use Outlaw power, but I've heard nothing but good things about Emotiva. Let us know what you end up with!
  13. Well gents, I got the Sherwood home Saturday and hooked it up... Very scratchy on the volume knob, so much so that I was scared of damaging my speakers. I wasn't really that surprised, or worried, I've heard this is a very common problem with older receivers, "dirty pots"? I think that's what it's called. Oh well, I'll just get it serviced, a guy in Cleveland quoted me "around $75". Respected place, good service....turn around time 3 WEEKS!! He says "bring it in on Monday". Done. So here I am yesterday perusing my local-ish CL when I stumble upon an add selling a Marantz 2215b and a Technics TT (sl-dd22). Well, I happen to be in the market for a (cheap)TT, as well so I decided to give them a look. Long story short... I have the Marantz home and hooked up! This thing is beautiful (original wood case, not a scratch on the face, all lights work), and it sounds great! Love the warmth. TT in excellent shape as well. The 2215 and the TT for a grand total of.....$50. I can't get over how good looking the Marantz is, I see how some people fall in love with them (I know Tuned4Life (Doug) has like 8 of them, and not this little guy, the monster 2325s) So for now the Sherwood will be headed back to CL. Would love to recoup my $50 from it... But, who knows, maybe I'll just hold on to it [] Jrod
  14. Thanks guys! Capn- If I could get a nice working/sounding machine for a $135 investment, I'd be thrilled. I'm going to check it out at 11:00am. I'll report back with some pics and first impressions. Thanks to all that chimed in! Jrod
  15. I should have disclosed earlier that I know nothing about this set (value, rarity, collectability, etc...). I'm not the world's biggest Beatles fan, enjoy them, just not crazy about them like some (my gf). Not sure of the pressing. How can I tell? There is a BC-13 on the side of the box, would that indicate a British pressing? I'm not joking when I say I don't think the records have ever been played, they look immaculate, the sleeves look immaculate. I did a quick ebay search on the "Blue Box", some of them are astronomical. Probably different (more rare) pressings than this one, but still. I think there is some value in this thing. Not that I'm looking to sell it, my old lady is obsessed with the Beatles and at the first mention of ebay (just for my research), I got a "well it doesn't matter, we're not selling them!" Ha!
  16. Thanks Bill, My sniffer will be on full alert! Thanks for the advice.
  17. Thank you for the quick reply, gnat! It does power up, and both channels put out sound. Those are the facts I know. I'm taking my rb-25s (most portable, and I know what they are supposed to sound like) to demo. What kind of price could I be looking at for a full-service check up from my local vintage audio mechanic?
  18. Cost me 50 smackers! Far and away the most I've ever spent at a thrift store... However, just the box goes for $50 on ebay. The box has a scuff, but everything else is in pristine condition. Think I made out alright.
  19. First post in this great thread... Found this gem at the North Canton, OH Goodwill today. Not the cheapest thrift store find, but pretty darn valuable...
  20. ANY advice/comments would be welcome guys... I'm going to look at a Sherwood s-7200 (built '73-'76, 60 watts/ch) tomorrow. Does anyone know anything about this unit? I've done the obligatory Google search, it looks as though it was a decent piece of hardware. Nothing super special, but quite servicable for my first 2-channel set-up. 50 bucks on CL. As this is my first foray into the dedicated 2-channel realm, what should I look for in a unit? I will be running my spare rf-82s until some suitable Heritage (Heresy, Forte, Chorus) come along. Thanks in advance! Jrod
  21. Ironslave gives very good advice. I would go in that exact same order. Now, as for the RC-64... I ran it with rf-82's for a long time and loved it. It took some tweaking on my AVR to get the front sound stage to sound good, but once I found the sweet spot, I was really happy with the 82-64-82. I say go for it! I get the best equipment I can afford at the time, and I buy used. My end game is a 3 La Scala L-C-R and 4 Heresys for surrounds, but i'm not in a big hurry. Part of the fun is the journey... Welcome to the madness! Jrod

nd, Thanks you so much for the review! It sounds like you are really enjoying them. I'm going to go ahead and pick up a pair this week. Did you get yours at an Apple store? Are there other retailers carrying them? The closest Apple store is about 30 mins away but I have all the big box stores (BB, hhgregg, etc..) very close. Again, thanks for the review. I'll post my thoughts once I get some listening done on them!! Jrod

Nobody really talking about these. Who is going to be the first to get them? I would love to read a couple of reviews before I made the leap. I purchased a pair of "Beats by Dre" before Klipsch announced the Image One's. The sound was pretty darn good... The build quality was AWFUL. Very cheap feel to them (annoying since they were $300), I returned them after one flight back home. So, now I'm ready to pull the trigger on the Image One's. However, If there is going to be a better sounding set of "cans" in the $150-$300 range, I'd like to know! I know there are a couple of solid brands out there: Sennheiser, Grado, etc... Are the One's going to be able to compete with cans (in a comparable price range) made by those companies?
  24. Hey James, thought I'd jump in here since I run something fairly similar to what you are looking at, (Integra 6.9/Outlaw 750). I really enjoy the combination. Our actual Klipsch set ups probably vary quite a bit (don't you run the 83 set up?). Music is dynamic and clear. Not as warm as some like. Movies really shine. I think this is really where Onkyo/Integra make their mark. I'm about a 60/40 movies to music guy, so the combo works out well for me. Jrod
