  1. One is bad. <sigh> so.. I might as well upgrade! lol
  2. HiYaAll, I want to replace my woofers on my 1983 Corns. What will work best for a B2 network> K77M and K51V. Confused on which pair to buy from Bob. Stamped CW1526 or cast CW1526C ? Your wisdom and experience would be greatly appreciated~ Thanks~ BTW the way. I found a perfect receiver that IS the combo for Corns. Sounds just as good or better then an MX110 / 2505 combo which you are aware is excellent. I was blown away. Thanks .
  3. What an awesome piece of equipment. Ron
  4. Just picked one up in mint condition, included remote.
  5. I'm looking for a copy of service manual for Carver HR-895. Any help would be appreciated. Need to fix. One channel has static. Thanks Ron
  6. HiYaAll, I've been running my Samsung CD player through the AUX on my 110> 2505> Corn's. At first it sounded fantastic then slowly seemed to have lost the punch on the top half. I now have it going through the tape monitor and it's a night n' day difference. So it's obvious I either need to re-seat the GE 6D10 or replace. Question? What tubes are being used for tape monitor path? Thanks Ronnie
  7. thank you..interesting.. would there be any difference between the round -vs- square magnet version? hmm. I'm trying to find out to get a backup pair for my Corns. since the diaphragms are harder to get nowadays. Even the CT125's will be iffy in the future as the company apparently stopped making the old versions and the newer appear questionable.. unless I';m mistaken ronnie
  8. HiYaALL, Was wondering. . Any difference in the K-Horn K77 tweet -vs- K77M (coil & horn) that'd you find in circa 1980ish Cornwalls? Sound-Quality. Curious minds need to know. Thanks in advance. ronnie
  9. yeah,, a ball of twine is pretty cheap nowadays me
  10. OR if someone wants to donate cables for a manly cause..
  11. I'm thinking the best bang for the buck would be the Audioquest King Cobra. Next step is the Columbia DBS and the price jumps considering they're excellent. We can get a 1M pair from Audiogon for $100 or a .75M for $80 perhaps. If we get 20 peeps at $5@ that'd work or even $10 at 10. I'll pitch in even though I'm cool with my Columbia's iffin it helps us. I figure shipping from both coasts for members is around $8-10 to try'm out. To be paid to the member who's holding and has to ship them. So..if members want to PayPal me $5.25 or $10.50 to cover PP charges, Lucky5115@aol.com I'll purchase and stop donations after I get required amount, make a donor list, distribute it and have cables shipped directly to first bidder in sequential order. After that it's whomever's responsiblity and honor system based on donor list between each other to work it out. If this is reasonable .. we shall commence. Sounds crazy ? lol yahsureyoubetcha. Ronnie
  12. Again, this is a controversial subject. However, good cables bring out the details. Maybe what we need for the forum is a nice set of test cables to pass around. If they sound better then what you have then there's the answer. ronnie
  13. Here's my opinion after hearing and owning Sidewinders, Diamondbacks, King Cobras and Columbia. (moved up the ladder) I would for sure get the King Cobras or if you can afford do the Columbia's which sound much better then KC's. Get them used at half price from Audiogon. DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY!. Cables do make a difference. How's this.. When you do pick up a set of Audioquests, please tell us if you can notice a diference. Hope this helps~ Ronnie
  14. Lol, I'm just the messenger. ronnie.
  15. I picked up a pair of AQ Columbia DBS interconnects to go with my Corns and MC2505. They sound really good. Here's a review I found that kinda sums it up. I too auditioned the Diamondbacks and King Cobras; then settled on Columbia. So here it is: I have been reviewing the new Audioquest audio interconnects from Diamondback, King Cobra, Columbia, Colorado, Sky and Golden Reference from Cardas the last 14 days. Started out with Diamondback and was very impressed. The soundstage was open, big, clear, detailed and very dynamic. Just like I like it! Continuing to King Cobra It just got better. I started wondering how that could be. There were something supernatural in that such a good cable like the Diamondback could be improved on... Furthering my Audioquest review sessions with the Columbia I fly in orbit! It was more than I could believe. The phrase: "I couldn't believe my own ears" filled the bill. I was not that impressed by the Colorado, Sky and Golden Reference... How could that be? Ahhh, he has not got the money for the the 3 big ones... No no, Actually for ones in my life, I do have the money- But I have been involved with HiFi much too many years to be fooled by the glamour. So I sat down in the hot spot with my precious equipment and started the lengthy A-B testing. To my big surprise the 3 top notch didn't make it... Columbia Has got several traits to offer. 1.The ability to display reverbs and echos in the soundstage is incredibly. For me that is very important because A.it gives you a very realistic view into the soundspace and B.the hithero displayed "hard sound" from other cables, like some Tara Labs, were just reverbs and echos lost in translation... The 3 other cables look alike in that area, they were not at all bad, nearly as good as the Colombia, but not quite there. 2.Unbelieveable transient strengths. I have yet to hear a more realistic sounding, fullbodied, nuanced, colourfull and "fleshlike" transient virtuoe than this cable has to offer. In fact it was so powerfull that I had to turn the volumen 10-20% down on most records to arrive at the same total output the other cables had to offer. Turning down the volumen willingly! - It opens up a hole new world for me. The very detailed, living, subtle nuances and quiet play in the deep space of a grand orchestra makes the feeling of being there so much... more... Colorado had much of the same, just lesser. Sky had a better low end, firmer and just as deep. The treble was very detailed and dry! Very much to dry. It was like the Columbias transients were made of beautyfull colours and the Sky of just black & whites. And the Sky's midrange is awfull! Pardon me, but it is. It is dry, lean - totally missing upper bass and lacks attack throughout. I really can't see how anyone can like that. The Golden Reference had quick, beautyfull transients with enough colour, but lacked the body, upper bass and glance of the Columbia. 3.Compared to Colorado, Sky and the Golden Reference the Columbia is more quiet and calm. That is another speciality about the C. I cannot live without to day. It introduced a deep calm and quietness to the music I never thought possibly. It is by the way essential to the above mentioned virtuoes. Without this "black" calm thing, none of the beforementioned trades would be that outstanding and amasing. The G.R. Sounded more like a "normal" average cable in that area. Sadly, because of its many virtuoes not being displayed then. The Colorado and Sky had an irritating subtle unease in their presentation. Maybe the high Voltage(72 v) has something to do with that? Maybe it is to much? Who knows, maybe a matter for Audioquest to explore? 4.Neutrality pops up in my mind from now and then. The Golden Reference is also good at that, except for the upper bass which is too bloomy and blurred - something not so good for male voices and organ reverbs...It sounds a bit leaner in the lower midrange compared to the Columbia. G.R. Is also a little more foregiving and laidback. It reminds me of a power amp. Situation many years ago, where I was to chose between some big Mark Levinson no. Something and a Krell KSA 80. The ML. sounded musical and beautyfull on all records - The Krell sounded like the record... It was a magnificient power amp. - the Krell. Golden Ref. Has a bit of that ML. effect. Painting the soundstage with the same musicality everytime, regardless of the source... Colorado sounds the same as the Columbia regarding neutrality, but is more uneven across the freq. Range. Sky has a ref. Bass a hopeless midrange and too much plingelíng treble though very refined, who cares about neutrality then? 5.It is Very involving. The Golden Ref. Again not the same amount of involvement...I get drawn into the music with the Columbia. Want to hear the next piece of music and gets to bed way to late in the morning again...when do I ever learn. With the G.R. My thoughts went of wondering what to do the next day, shopping etc. My interest in the music was therefore lacking. The 2 other big ones virtues distracted me too much to ever svim in the Ocean of Sound, I didn't even get my swimsuit on. As the above mini review will tell you, I am indeed in love with the Columbia, combining Tara Labs clean, direct and involving sound with the Golden References nuances and the rest is Columbias all alone. yes, cables make a difference. My 2 cents anyhoo.. I would by used from someone thats reputable and Not the Hong Kong junk. For the money; the Kings are really sweet. Columbias opened it up. Never tried the upper DBS tiers, but there has to be a law of diminishing return -vs- cost. So I'm gonna stick with the C's. Ronnie
  16. Well. what do you expect from a electrical supply store. I would think they would be a little biased too.. lol The electrical resistance of an object is a measure of its opposition to the passage of a steady electric current. In electromagnetism and electronics, capacitance is the ability of a body to hold an electrical charge. Capacitance is also a measure of the amount of electrical energy stored (or separated) for a given electric potential. Electromagnetic interference (or EMI, also called radio frequency interference or RFI) is a disturbance that affects an electrical circuit due to either electromagnetic conduction or electromagnetic radiation emitted from an external source. I bought used Audioquest IC's and new type 4 cable. I can assure you I can tell the difference; so I'm posting my results now. I was a nay-sayer or disbeliever until I heard. The AQ Diamondback or King Cobra are awesome for the money. Of course there is a point of diminishing returns whereas the cost outweighs the performance. I look at cables/IC's like the bus on a mother board, a link between the processor, memory and components. Or in our case, pathways between pre/tuner/amp etc. I would think better is better lol . . think about that . . Both gold and silver have good conductivity. The big difference is the corrosion on the plating after awhile. Long gone is the cup-string-cup telecommunications. lol Keep in mind also that a good cable will also bring out hidden flaws in a system and thus could be perceived as inferior. Also there's the black market Honk Kong garbage knock offs that taint a name. No daggers needed .. lol My Corns are so spoiled and high maintenance .. geesh ! hahaha Ronnie
  17. crazy isn't it? However, cables-IC's definitely make a difference in sound. Overall it's a good investment. ronnie
  18. I bought 2 used AQ sets. Diamondbacks for $60 and King Cobras for $100 ronnie
  19. yeah that too. lol It's my understanding that a dealer can call Audioquest and they have demo sets that are avail to try. They improved the sound for example.. on a few songs I needed to turn up the treble just a tad. w/new IC's , didn't need to do that. One would think new diaphragms. nope... more revealing w/o brightness. Also noticed that for the bass it was sometimes kinda boomy off the walls and therefore one would be convinced that speaker placement was the issue.. Nope.. nice n' tight, just right. They also brought to life hidden treasures not noticed b4. ronnie
  20. Yes...there are disbelievers....those of you out there don't know what you're missing out on. This is one way of taming that harsh,in your face sound from some models instead of spending thousands of dollars on 2 inch drivers, triamping, & rebuilding your room. Give it a go & you may be pleasantly surprised. I only have a couple hours on them. I can only tell you that it made a major diff in the sound for a relative cost and I only did the IC for the CD player and speaker wires. Audioquest is excellent stuff. Yes I rolled two pairs already and there was a noticable difference between them. Did alot of research on cables/IC/ups b4 I spent hard earned money. I've got an APC BR1500LCD 1500VA 865 Watts on the way. (I recommend this one). $200.OTD. I believe for the money it's a very good ups as it conditions/surge/battery protects my equipment. Many dollars are spent on high end electrics nowadays, so it's a good thing. Anyhoo, I'm now a believer that cables make a difference. Ronnie
  21. Changed the interconnects on my CD player from stock Samsung to Audioquest and noticed a big improvement in overall sound. More clarity on top end, tweets livend up, tight bass punch w/o wall bounce, clean soundstage with presence. I can crank up the corns for a solo and it's as if the drummer is in my living room. Changed speaker cables from monster to Audioquest type 4. Improved tonal soundstage, clarity and imaging. So for disbelievers or naysayers.. cables do make a difference. The biggest bang for the buck (in my setup) would be upgrading interconnects. hope this helps ronnie
  22. HiYaAll, Anyone use Audioquest 'diamondback' or 'king corbra' interconnects? thoughts would be appreciated ronnie
