  1. I myself have the system 6 setup. The ss.5's take some getting used to. The sound does not travel straight to your ears like a typical speakers does. They spread the sound out a little more. I enjoy them. Know this about the setup, make sure you have your speakers set to small on your receiver. They cannot take the full range at high volumes. That is for movies though...the sb-1 will handle full range music very well, and very loud. At movies though...keep the bass down on these little speakers...the woofers will fail if you dont. I keep the bass tone control -5 for the left/right speakers. No problems at all. Now i listen to movies LOUD. My ears ring afterward. Not many people do...so im sure you wont have any problems. ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Toshiba Flatscreen 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player This message has been edited by afraid on 11-02-2001 at 05:36 PM
  2. Thanks for the replies. The center channel stand are rubber stoppers i got from home depot. I had trouble with the sc.5 shaking the set, so i picked these up for about .90 apeice. There was no way i was going to spend twenty dollars for sorbathane pucks. I was worried they might not even work. The next upgrade will be a new receiver, im looking at the Marantz 6200. any thoughts on this new receiver? I wanted a sr 7000 or sr 8000, but the new models are cheaper and have 6.1. I would move the sb-1's to the rear, and get a set of sf-1's for the front. ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Toshiba Flatscreen 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player

  5. Hey, its been awhile since i have posted here. Girlfriend troubles. I just bought a new toshiba flatscreen tv, number: 27AF61. The screen bends inward toward the middle but wider along the top and bottomedges...is this normal? The only time i notice it is when the THX logo comes on. The blue line around the THX bends inward along the side edges. Like i said, i only notice this problem with vertical lines along the edges. Is this how these tv's display the picture? ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Zenith 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player
  6. Red Mc is a crook. Anyone who is friends with Henry Cinsneros is no one to be trusted. I lived in San Antonio for 22 years, southside. Pecan Valley area.Know of it? We have put up with corrupt politics like you have never seen, and those two can sure be in the thick of it. I hear Rush talk about Red....if he only knew...... ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Zenith 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player

  9. send me a diagram. If diagonal setup, i suggest small speakers such as the quintets. easier to place, and the rears can be mounted on wall . You dont need an expensive receiver either. Go with a low end dd/dts denon or oknyo. Maybe even a yamaha. Older folks dont need the volumes we do, so small speakers and a low 65 / 5 watt receiver is just fine. ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Zenith 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player Optimus HT Surge Protector

  11. The SB-1s cannot handle the large setting. Too much bass. I have always had them on small, even when i did not have a sub. The problem is there doing the flapping woofer thing on the small setting with bass sent to sub only. Freaking me out. I do listen loud, but have never had this problem with them before. I have only noticed it on the Titan AE DTS, just yesterday. ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Zenith 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player Optimus HT Surge Protector
  12. I have it set to SW not both or main. I decided to turn down the bass on the tone control to -5. I will see in the morning if that resolves the problem. Like you said maybe its just to much 100hz for that little speaker to handle. I listened to Superman with the bas tone turned down and i could not hear any difference in the way my HT sounded. Its a cheaper fix than buying a new set of speakers.Wil try Titan AE in the morning (when i can crank it) ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Zenith 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player Optimus HT Surge Protector
  13. The sub sounds fine. I have all bass sent to sub, mains to small. All speakers are set to small so everything under 90HZ gets sent to sub. The bass settings are 0 for dd and dts. Tone control for bass is also set to 0 ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Zenith 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player Optimus HT Surge Protector
  14. Just when i got my sub this had to happen. During titan ae when corso says "were goin in" during the ice scene. There is a heavy bass sound as the ship flys by. I have my SB-1's set to small, everything under 90HZ goes to the sub. I heard something i had not before, my speakers were flapping out! Sounds bad, very bad. For those with yamaha receivers my volume was set to my usual listening level, 20 , almost to the half point of the dial. With the hz being cut off at 90 how the hell can it do this? Could my receiver be screwd up and still sending full signal to the SB's? Are my SB's blown? I dont have the problem with my center speaker. If the problem is the speaker, i have a pair of them for sale. I paid 280 for them NOT TO GET THIS SOUND. If i wanted it i would have kept my sonys. Should i just suck it up and buy a bigger pair of mains? Maybe a pair of SF's? Damn the luck. ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Zenith 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player Optimus HT Surge Protector
  15. I found an Polk PSW 350 for 350.00 at a local store. I loved the sound it put out so i went ahead and grabbed it. This bastard shakes the whole house! Very nice sub. Never would have thought to look at a polk. Very happy today Nate ------------------ Yamaha 595a SB-1's (pair) SC .5 (center) SS.5's (pair, rear channels) Polk PSW350 subwoofer Zenith 27" TV Toshiba 3109 DVD player Optimus HT Surge Protector
